I've recently started making yogurt regularly. We really enjoy it. I use an organic Greek yogurt for my starter. I also use powder milk with my 2% milk to make it thicker which we like.
Will you make a follow up vid on this? I'd like know how your sour yogurt is doing. :) Thanks for sharing!
On the vids, I want to put some up, but my slave labor rebelled and my computer isn't compatible with that camera for some reason. I'm going to get it though some day : )
The sour yogurt sucks on potatoes, no matter how I tried to convince myself it wasn't that bad, it really was. I don't mind eating it that way though, especially with a little jelly or jam. I'm sure it would be pretty good on something. I'd toss a wad of it at someone's head & vid it, like to see it, but I fear retribution lol
I think I got some outside bacteria or yeast in my yogurt. It got a serious bit to it, which I actually liked when I got used to it. You could feel the bacteria in it kind of like you do if you walk in a nasty swamp, my body loved it and craved it
The next batch I got 90% clear whey. It's still in the fridge, and I go to do something with it once in a while but I just look at it and go eww
tried a whole gallon container with some yogurt with artificial sweetener, the whole thing went nasty
Great video. I started making my own yogurt as well, but I had to use a little container of plain Western Family yogurt to start it all. No kefir powder or grains in my little town.
Have you tried making smoothies with your yogurt yet? It's awesome try it!
1 teaspoon of any flavor jam, 1 half teaspoon of sugar, and 1 glass of yogurt, blend well. I add a tiny bit of milk, maybe 1 or 2 teaspoons to thin the smoothie down a bit.
I tried some of it in a smoothy, boy did it have a bite. This last batch was kind of runny though I left it out a couple days so I didn't need to mix milk in. I put in current jam, in fact I put it in a bottle that was nearly empty. Reminds me of sour dough I used to drink, directed by a friend who was pretty up on Chinese alternative medicine (took my high BP down in 6 days). It's like finding an old friend probably some of the yeast components in the Kifer culture coming on more strong in it.
Awesome! I used to have gut problems. Sour gut, always hurting it seemed, heartburn all the time etc. Boy this yogurt has really helped, these past few weeks are the first time my stomach has felt normal in years.
Yeah, you can get unbalanced bacteria and the wrong strains growing in your gut. An influx of the good stuff helps it get strong and kill off bad bacteria. That bad bacteria produces toxic substances that harm the immune system and cause system problems all over your body including vital organs and brain.
Many ways to hurt the balance. Too much meat, alcohol, cold drink downed quickly shocks, to much of the wrong spices hurt it, antibiotics kill it. Diarrhea is sign of mass bacterial die off
Antibiotics, steroids and hormone treatment are the leading causes of digestive problems. It's amazing just watching the commercials for heartburn meds and indigestion. These ailments are on the rise due to not only bad diets but meds which cause these problems.
Women know to eat yogurt if on antibiotics or they'd get a yeast infection. Antibiotics interfere with BC pills. Didn't put all this together until I got really, really sick after 4 months on antibiotics. Just yogurt won't do the trick.
It is great stuff. I started eating some and my body went "oh yes!" and started craving.
So GoatHollow, what do we call you? I'm thinking podunk probably doesn't get it right? : )
Anyone who see's this, check out GoatHollow's excellent channel. Great insightful commentary and very valuable tips there. I looked a few minutes and there was no doubt I had to subscribe.
I have something that looks like Kefir that came from the stuff I let sour longer. It took a long time to do anything, then started working and separated more like Kefir while the fresh stuff looked like yogurt. That Kefir looking stuff has me spooked though lol. Wish I had a microscope to check out the little dudes (bacteria) working on it. I think I killed off some and isolated others or picked up some yeast out of the environment
How is kefir different from yogurt? It tastes pretty much the same to me, but I like kefir better just because I can drink it. Just grab it from the fridge and down as much or as little as I want at a time--no spoon required.
I've only been able to find one brand of kefir, and only in the organic section, not anywhere near the many brands of yogurt cups. Oh, and I can only find flavored kefir, which means added sugar...
Well I had no idea until a lady in the health food store sold me what she said was yogurt culture, but the package said Kefir culture. Then I was like "what the hell is Kefir?" so I checked it out. Kefir is supposed to have about 17 different bacteria and yeast strains, while yogurt has ... I don't know, one I guess.
My Kefir starter made what appeared as yogurt. I made sour yogurt by leaving it out, and culture from that when fed milk looked more like classic Kefir, more than 1/2 weigh.
Your Yogurt video is ton's better than mine lol ... Everyone watching this, before you make yogurt go look at the Yankeeprepper video ... and watch the other ones to because he has a collection of videos that are excellent with very valuable information.
I'm sorry this video sucks (like the last one: ). I was depending on my kid to shoot it and she is studying for finals and no one wanted to help out dad lol, so I just shot it all in about the time you see. I hope it gets the point, the basic info across anyway.
Yogurt is a tool for one of the most important components of health, which is getting bacterial balance right in the colon. When you get that right it increases your immune system strength until you are very strong against communicable disease ... AND biological attacks
There is more involved than just getting the right bacteria inside, but it's vital
Fermented products are the only legitimate dietary use for cows milk, which is hard on the system, we can't digest it
As you know ironhead, I think, goats milk is better much more compatible with people. Cows milk requires a 4 stomach system, plus when it's pasteurized it's just very bad news.
Fermentation allows predigestion of the Cows Milk so it's goes easily into the system.
You are the bravest man in America.

GoatHollow works,,, I use "Podunk news" as a title for only some of my videos, because I give a more rural view on current events in those videos.

Kefir is good for the colon. No joke - much better than yogurt for stomach health.
