  • Alan King to Arlene Francis (who called him by a different last name in her introduction): "Thank you, Dorothy." And Carol Channing's long intro for Bennett Cerf - simply priceless entertainment.

  • Live TV rocks!!

  • Carol Channings head is HUGE--is she still alive?

  • @Flexmeister ...yeah she is

  • @Flexmeister watch wendy williams tomorrow June 22nd and we shall see!!! I asked the same question!

  • pause @ 0:36 Arlene's face is priceless

  • Live TV is so much more fun. Imagine if someone had edited out Arlene's botched introduction and the subsequent joking.

  • Carol Channing is so lively :) I just love her.

  • I knew there had to be a bunch of these out there, and I've been sorry they weren't posted! Thanks so much: This was hilarious.

  • March 1965: The perils of living television -- Carol Channing's 32 second introduction of Bennett Cerf.

Ms Channing's husband-manager is somewhere off camera with cue cards. On 21 February 1965, Carol and her cue cards gave a TWO and a HALF MINUTE LONG introduction to Arlene Francis, which stands as the record for WML longwindishness.

Channing substitutes for Dorothy who is recovering from problems associated with a collarbone broken on a throw rug.

  • The perils of living television --

Dorothy had troubles with titles. Mating Season she called Tony Randall's "Mating Game" American Broadcast she called "American Bandstand." She always had trouble getting Art Linkletter's titles right.

Arlene once called William Bendix's TV series Overland Trial instead of "Overland Trail."

One time Arlene came right to the brink of introducing Tony Randall -- and could not remember his name! Eventually she had to call him out unintroduced.

  • Alan Dale!!!!! Who's Alan Dale?

  • Alan Dale was a moderately successful romantic singer, sort of like Vic Damone or Eddie Fisher. He was busy in the 50s put then, as so many careers, faded fast. There's no particular hit song associated with him, but Arlene certainly knew of him, as this blooper shows.

  • Great, great opening. Alan Berle!
