  • Is it just me or did Reagan look like a 97-year-old man even in the 1950s?

    Was he EVER young??

  • reagan smash REAGAN SMASH!!!!

  • This is perfect...

  • is this where tarantino got his inspiration for "from dusk till dawn"?

  • Classic. Thanks for posting. Reagan and Dean. Pretty damn cool.

  • Why is everyone getting so political about this clip? I appreciate it for its nostaligia..We have two great American men together in the same scene..Apperciate this for the intrinsic value and stop tarnishing it with politics!!

  • @1035ttobin I'm amused by the implication that what you're saying isn't political.

  • ronald reagan was a good actor....

  • 2:46 hahhahahaha, that a good translation

    PD:Click on CC

  • How Alpha is Ronald Regan and James Dean in the same scene?

  • I wish you had the full upload. This was a live performance on TV. WOW- What a great job that James Dean and Ronald Reagan did. Thank you for the upload. If you have the whole show please upload.

  • that was actually a really great scene

  • Terrible performance from Jimmy. The worst I've ever seen, very overwrought and ridiculous. Hard to admit, but Ronnie gives the superior performance.

  • @Ulysses61 FUCKING REPUBLICAN SCUM!!!!

  • Good acting, i believe i just shit myself...

    Sorry, be right back :)

  • Not James' best performance ever, but such a treat to see such rare footage of him! Thanks for posting.

  • Horrible and affected performance from Jimmy. Really bad. It's pathetic that Ronnie gives the superior performance.

  • I love James Dean omg

  • lol James sure was bopping

  • 初めて観た!ロナルド・レーガンとジェームズ・ディーンが共演してる!中曽根康弘さんにも見せてやりたい。

  • Um, very choppy

  • That was awesome! I had no idea that both of these guys acted together. By the way all of you who insist that James Dean was gay, why don't you get a life and let the guy rest in peace. Both of these guys were pretty cool.

  • @doggsector Newsflash: Dean was bisexual, and so yes, that makes him "a little gay". It's well documented by several historians: His agent was gay, he had an affair with Nicolas Ray, the director of East of Eden, etc., etc.

As for resting in peace...he's DEAD, of course he's at peace. Jeez...

  • @dannybex where's your proof? that was debunked a long time ago by people who chased down those rumors to the original sources. just cuz rumors about someone pop up doesn't mean they're true. alot of times they're just smear campaigns or wishful thinking.

  • @dannybex stop makin allegations

  • @TiG3Rooo They're not "allegations", but instead well-known and documented facts.

  • @dannybex watch the larry king live special on james dean. dennis hopper and his former girlfriend even said that they were rumors. scums like you just keep them alive.

  • Typical James Dean right from the beginning.

The only performance he gave without the father issue was a pepsi commercial.

  • James Dean=Swag "wait a minute lets just keep it cool man don't mess up" and @2:26-35 swagg

  • @searcherboy. I will not respond any longer or waste time addressing this nonsense, the facts are accessable on the internet or other sources if anyone cares to get to the truth..

  • i just love james deans form of acting. beautiful. really wish he would have left us more magic... more to look at... more to love. rip jimmy. :'')

  • @MrNotyag I disagree--he's good here---Dean seems to be pulling something out of him.

  • What an unlikely combination! The mutant king and the king mutant!! nice to see James in different drama roles outside of his film roles: a thug with "Cal' overtones==not all sensitive stuff!! Yet there still is his vulnerability trademark.....Shows the range of his acting and what he might have done in "Left Handed Gun". Reagan is good here too! Its like he's absorbing some of Dean's intensity. Unusual!!

  • @searcherboy. If it had been proven that President Reagan had lied about Iran Contra, I'm sure impeachment proceedings would have begun and he would have been convicted, oh, now that I remember, isn't this what happened to your man Bill Clinton when it was PROVEN that HE lied???

  • Reagan certainly did lie about Iran Contra - he told one story under oath, was proven wrong, then backtracked by claiming he didn't know that his own administration had negotiated an arms deal behind his back. In other words, his defence was incompetence. Reagan could have been impeached for transferring the money to rebels in Nicaragua in direct violation of federal law (the Boland Amendment, signed by Reagan himself in '82). If Obama pulled something like this, he'd be impeached in 3 seconds.

  • @searcherboy If Obama pulled something like that they would throw a party for him. Give me a break.

  • @doggsector Is this any kind of defence for what Reagan did 30 years ago?

  • @searcherboy. You also failed to mention that Reagan beat his two Democratic opponents in the elections of 1980 and 1984 by 48 and 49 state LANDSLIDES, something that has never been seen before in American history, I guess you missed these FACTS as well..

  • @rainstormz28 So what? FDR was very popular as well. One person's hero is another's villain

  • @searcherboy. I will dig out the real facts concerning his Presidency and respond, two facts that come to mind, Reagan inherited a Carter mess that included 22 percent interest rates and American hostages in Iran, the hour Reagan took oath of office, the hostages were released. You failed to mention THAT fact, pal as well as interest rates falling during his administration to affordable percentages where citizens of this country could afford to purchase homes and automobiles again...

  • @rainstormz28 Interest rates had already peaked when Reagan took office. Rates went to 20+% because Paul Volcker, Carter's Fed Chairman, saw this as the only way to end inflation. He succeeded, at the cost of the worst recession since the 30s. Reagan kept Volcker in office because Carter's anti-inflation policy worked. Unemployment continued to rise for more than 2 years after Reagan was sworn in. It took that long for Reagan's tax stimulus and massive deficits to turn the economy around.

  • I lived through the Reagan era and can state from personal experience he was the greatest president we have ever had. I am not going to debate the liberal liars on this thread attempting to smear Ronald Reagan's record..the internet is a powerful tool and I challenge anybody who think jerks such as searcherboy are providing facts concerning his presidency to look up the real truth....And to those who make reference to Dean shooting Reagan..you are sick...

  • @rainstormz28 I challenge you to respond to the facts I cited about Reagan's presidency, specifically the fiscal ones.

  • This was fascinating. The little girl playing Ronnie's daughter was much too big for that baby crib.

  • They say he was such a good actor because he constantly confused acting with real-life. His friends reported that they couldn't always tell if he was "playing" or serious(possibly bipolar?).

  • ronald reagans message, marijuana is bad but selling bio weapons to sadam hussein is a ok

  • At about 4:50, Reagan rises above his standard insincere acting. In the climax of the scene, he's pretty good - playing opposite Dean seems to make him dig deeper for the truth as an actor.

  • @searcherboy yes, I agree. that is a good analysis.

  • Dean's latent talent clearly evident in this amazing post. RIP Jimmy.

  • why is everyone giving ronald crap? best president ever. just goes to show that there are sad liberals among us.

  • @Gunfighter200077 That's delusional. Reagan ended a 35 year trend in which federal debt shrank relative to the size of the economy, tripled the nat. debt in only 8 years and started a deficit spiral that nearly bankrupted the US. He lied under oath about Iran-Contra. He was a smiling, friendly shill who enabled the sellout of the public interest to corporations. He gutted labour laws and created the conditions for the S&L crash.

  • @searcherboy ur delusional. jimmy carter screwed everything up and ronny did wat he had 2 do 2 turn america in2 a great country again. im sry tht u have been lied 2 ur whole life.

  • @Gunfighter200077 You ought to read some history - and think for yourself, if you have the ability, instead of blindly repeating the Republican/Tea Party line about how great Reagan was. He TRIPLED the national debt in only 8 years. That was the worst fiscal record of any peacetime president, ever. The so-called 'Reagan Boom' was based on excessive government debt and stimulus. Reagan's neocon fiscal policies created the mess the US struggles with today.

  • @searcherboy name 1 democrat that was better than reagan! u cant because its impossible. obama has put the country in the greatest debt it has ever seen before. u liberals are the biggest traitors to its country, how can any of u call your selves americans. reagan stopped foreign powers from taking over the united states to save people like you. wow a very gracious guy he was and what a very ungrateful thing you are!

  • @Gunfighter200077 Clinton. This hated "tax & spend liberal" was the ONLY president in the last 40 years to generate budget surpluses. He actually PAID DOWN DEBT - unlike Reagan, who tripled it. He wasn't forced to by the GOP, either. Congress operated under Pay-Go rules (passed by DEMOCRATS in 1990) that required spending increases to be funded by cuts elsewhere in the budget. The REPUBLICANS allowed this law to expire in 2002, enabling Bush's huge increases in spending and doubling of the debt.

  • @searcherboy u do know democrats are the reasoning for high tax prices and high gas prices

  • @Gunfighter200077 [cont'd] What "foreign powers" did Reagan stop from "taking over the United States"? Grenada? You live in a fantasy world. Reagan cut and run from Lebanon after the attack on the US marines there. As for being a 'gracious guy', you and your Tea Party pals sure aren't living up to that now.

  • @searcherboy USSR is what he also saved us from. ur a joke u need 2 stop replying 2 this because u lost the argument before it even started. do urself a favor and just stop embarrasing urself. do not reply

  • @Gunfighter200077 The USSR was in terminal decline long before Reagan came along. The Berlin Wall was a tacit admission of Soviet failure. The suppression of reform movements in Hungary & Czechoslovakia proved the Soviet system couldn't adapt. In the 80s the price of oil collapsed, depriving the USSR of foreign exchange from its only significant export commodity. This caused a depression. Then the nation was bankrupted by the Afghan war. Read history.

  • @searcherboy ussr was still thriving what are you talking about?! also are you just a person who has no life and starts arguments on the computer because you are a poor democrat. plus can you not read? i told you 2 stop replying. i frankley am bored of talking 2 u.

  • @Gunfighter200077 The USSR was in severe economic crisis in the late 80s. They had to import large amounts of grain to feed their citizens (Soviet agriculture was a disaster), but the crash in oil prices meant they couldn't afford it. The loss of the war in Afghanistan weakened the Soviet military, which was already corrupt. The government lost the support of the people and the generals. This all fact. You don't seem to have any counter-arguments.

  • @searcherboy cause i dont need 2 argue. its fact that reagan was and will always be the best. thats the only fact i need.

  • @Gunfighter200077 That's not fact, that's faith. You're welcome to it.

  • @searcherboy its a fact when everyone knows it even you but are too dumb to admit it

  • Comment removed

  • !!

  • Blow his head off James

  • Ronald Reagan was a jerk then as well as when he was president

  • @MrB17FlyingFortress well its your life

  • WTF?

  • @dahliafully and to all the other Reagan bashers on this thread...it's obvious none of you have the facts of that era or don't care to take the time to look up the facts so I leave you all with this observation...it is better for people to believe you are all idiots then to post and remove all doubt...

  • Reagan deserved an Oscar for his role as the President.

  • James Dean bless his soul seemed like he had many problems in actual life, I don't know how true it is but my dad said he had a lot of mental issues. you can petty much tell just by watching him in these movies, he wasn't really acting I think maybe this is some of the pain he felt if screen as well as on.

  • 0:52 so this was first attempt upon the life of RR....:))

  • Oh no NO NO DOC LoL R.I.P James Dean. The man was & still is a legend!

  • And the character that Mr Reagan played... unafraid of a bullying armed punk is just the kind of president he became. He replaced the sniveling weak coward Jimmy Carter.... if Jimmy Carter had been the doctor he would have tried to understand the little creep. We don't negotiate with terrorists and they will not bully us. That is the real Reagan doctrine.

  • WOW ! That was real neat ! Never seen this before, lots of drama and you can already see the style in which Dean was heading towards in his career. His life was just beginning to reach full bloom. We turned for just a moment and when we looked back again the bloom was gone.

  • Ronald Reagan? The Actor?! Well, who's Vice President? Jerry Lewis? I suppose Jane Wyman is the first lady, and Jack Benny is the Secretary of the Treasury! I've had enough practical jokes for one evening. Good night, future boy!

  • @Killermike2178 hahaha! back to the future! i love that movie.. i have the trilogy ;)

  • @crippledinside92 Me too!

  • @Killermike2178 cool! i reply 4 months later gosh im awful .. forgive me =]

  • @Killermike2178 Great line from Doc in "Back to the Future". lol lol

  • @Killermike2178 gotta love Back to the future ;)

  • In real life after Reagan disarmed Dean he would've put him in a dress, given him a good boofing and then called the cops to haul him away

  • Reagan vs James Dean : The story of the USA

  • Jimmy and good friend Jack Simmons together in this Nov. 1954 television show, 6 months before filming began on "Rebel Without a Cause." He is wearing Jimmy's glasses. Jack later played one of the gany members, Cookie.

  • well southwriter you sound like a genuine regan idoliser, labeling anything a communist

  • Reagan could have easily played Joe Friday on Dragnet. He has a very "Jack Webb" style demeanor in this film. Great actor.

  • what an actor! Rest in peace RR

  • ...

  • Damn! Ronald Regan looked old as hell even back in the early '50's!

  • All Presidents are actors.

  • Dig that crazy music!

  • For those who do not know...

    Dean was functionally illiterate.

He had fellow actors read him all of his lines until he 'groked' them.

During the shoot, he'd let himself 'flow' with the script, constantly IMPROVING it.

Even the writers admitted: I'd wished I'd written THAT.

    Dean was a total natural.

His death spanned Steve McQueen AND Paul Newman, neither of whom would have broken out but for Dean's death.

    Amazing, No?

Yeah, they got killer roles that were set for Dean.

  • Jimmy, So cute when he dances!!!!!=)

  • 3:23 ... shoot him. shoot him! SHOOT HIM GODDAMNIT!!!!

  • @mussman717word Communist.

  • @southwriter

    So be it.

  • Oh, God. It's outstanding to see Reagan get so badly upstaged by real talent.

  • @mussman717word Yeah, now you know how Carter and Mondale must have felt : )

  • I'm Ronald Reagan speaking for General Electric.

Awesome. How many years later and President's are still speaking for General Electric. Just not so up front about it anymore.

  • I believe I read in "The Mutant King" that CBS reran this several times.

  • Actually, it's the GE Theater production of "I'm a Fool" (James Dean / Natalie Wood) that was repeated.

  • @AmazingArchive Thanks for clearing that up. I was also thinking of "The Unlighted Road".

  • I really wish I could see the whole episode of this, it looks really cool. the pairing of reagen and james dean is pretty grand if you think about it. one represented youth and rebellion, and the other represented tradition and nostalgia.

  • @SuperStinsley

You mean one represented truth, and the other lies. I totally agree with you, though.

  • this was very entertaining

  • 5:36 Well...

  • Ronald Reagan was also a great actor as President......

  • wow!!! intense!!

  • this is classic ....

  • No one touches James Dean. Not a soul. End of story.

  • Although Reagan wasn't a good actor, he was much more talented as an actor, than as a politican...

  • @theeyeoftheduck i think he would have made a great spider man in a spider man film

  • RONNIE! as much as i like dean as an actor, i bet he would have annoyed the shit out of me as a person.

  • James Dean was a very good actor, but he's no Brando.

  • @sigurjong you're right...........he would've been better than Brando.

  • @JokerInThePack1979 I don't know if he would've been better than Brando. There was no one like Marlon Brando. But then again, there was no one like Jimmy Dean. I guess we'll never know.

  • 0:56 I know what Ronald Reagan was thinking 20+ years later when he got shot.

    'god not this shit again.'

  • where was this from? it's not from any of his movies right?

  • know what's amazing? it's the best acting I ever saw Reagan do.

  • The opening reminds me of Drunken Angel (1948) by Akira Kurosawa.

  • Imagine if Ronald Reagan had died in a car crash and James Dean had become the president....

  • @istvan969 one could only wish..

  • @istvan969 : The 80´s would have been a much happier decade, that´s for sure...

  • @fabiolemme The '80s was the best decade after the '50s. The '50s were great because you were not around!

  • @southwriter: Aren´t you cute. BTW, if you had lived anywhere outside of the USA during that decade, I´m aure you would understand my message.

  • @fabiolemme If it wasn't for Reagan in the '80s, strongly helping other countries out when you needed us, as well as pumping billions of dollars into your economy all of those years, you'd be eating mud and swinging from a tree, Commi.

  • @southwriter: You make that sound like charity from pure hearts, hahaha. The USA pumped billions of dollars all over the world because it was interesting for them - to expand economic/political influence and getting even more in return!

But that debate could last forever. I don´t even know u and I´m not interested to. You can post anything you want in reply, cause I´m not gonna even bother to. Cheers.

  • @fabiolemme Commi.

  • @istvan969 I guarantee you it's happening in an alternative parallel Universe as I type and you read these words.

    - AND I'm typing the obverse in the other Universe.

  • @istvan969 james dean would of done a way better job!!!!!

  • @istvan969 thts dumb

  • @istvan969 Imagine if your mother had actually had a child that lived...

  • @istvan969 Dude you rock! LMAO!

  • That's what marijuana and jazz does to people. It's tragic.

  • @jhop9898 fuckin rasist. sftu and greetz from germany you dumb piece of shit :D

  • @BigLouieLittlePhilly Thank you. You have a nice day too.

  • @jhop9898 no problem piece of shit :)

  • @jhop9898

i don't think reagan smoked or listened to jazz.... but you're right he was a tragic character. especially for the rest of us.

  • @jhop9898

    What's so bad about marijuana?

  • @jhop9898 don't blame it on the jazz baby lol

  • is this the full episode? are there more scenes or what? can anyone tell me how to watch full episode?

  • For some reason James Dean reminds me Brad Pitt in this.

  • The ONE thing that surprised me was that Dean was functionally illiterate!

From those who acted with him...

He'd have his lines read to him in rehearsal and so took them to his heart they became him.

    As for reading the script....

Multiple famous actors say -- he couldn't read them!

It also meant that, if the role required it, he'd just 'rewrite' his lines for better emotion. And the pros around him made it all 'fit.'

Dean was, in fact, a terrific Re-Writer! He constantly beat the script.

  • @staydput It's a well-known fact that Dean struggled with dyslexia. When forced to read a script for auditions, he would blame any slip-ups on cracked or misplaced glasses. I think it proved to be a blessing in disguise, because it enabled him to use his phenomenal gift for improvisation. He was also extremely nearsighted, which is why you sometimes see him squinting in his films. Not to mention the fact that he was only 5'8'', not exactly the ideal height for a lead male. Incredible indeed.

  • @heb1114

Dean was more true than real...

    By re-crafting his lines...

Even the director told the others -- go with him...

Dean had the ability to consume the character. This had a huge impact on Rod Hudson and E. Taylor.

    They were blown away.

Dean made his character ENTIRELY real. The stiffness in the original dialog was thrown aside -- effortlessly.

Elizabeth and Rod and others found that his dialog was so much better than the script it made it so much easier to respond and act....

  • @heb1114 Most people don't know that he actually wore a bridge- he knocked his front teeth out as a kid playing "daredevil" at the Winslow family barn(where he grew up after his mother died). This affected his speech at times- if you're observant you can hear the "slurs" in some TV & movie performances. An example is in "East of Eden" during the "wilow tree" scene near the end, after Julie Harris consoled him & his brother scoulded him. He slurs "Hey Arron- you wanna go somewhere with me"?

  • @staydput But James Dean said to the gossip columnist Hedda Hopper (who was, by the way, the biggest critic of his idol Marlon Brando) that he 'always' wanted to be a writer ... can you suffer from dyslexia and write ? : S

  • James Dean is great and it comes out in everything he's in. Ronald Reagan....well what can I say, B actor at best.

  • Was James Dean a commie? Because Reagan kicked his ass like he was one.

  • its weird and funny seeing james dean dancing lol

  • superb

  • AMAZING. Reagan delivered just enough for Dean to shine.

  • "DO THE BEST YOU CAN, YOU DIG ME?"

  • I guess only the good die young is true.

  • That line "I don't know whether to beat you or kill you." was kinda stupid and ruined the scene for me. "I don't know what to do with you." would have been more realistic than that.

  • James Dean breaks your heart even as a criminal. :'-(

  • Omg, I'm not used to seeing Ronald Reagan as the good guy.

  • great!

  • He can act, (Reagan) I mean.

  • Damn why did reagan have to die so old.

  • Reagan fell into obscurity in the 80’s? Really? I guess if you call President of the United States obscurity. Wow.

  • @glaze9 That was obviously meant as a tongue in cheek comment.

  • @glaze9 HAHAHAHAHA

  • Reagan: underrated actor, Dean: Icon for the next 100 years

  • @toddadale more like eternity

  • It's a shame that Ronald Reagan fell into near complete obscurity in the 1980s.

  • @GusF I agree what ever happend to him..

  • Damn why'd he have to die so young.

  • This RARE FOOTAGE should stay rare, Im a big James Dean fan but this makes me cringe,

  • This whole short film is awkward. Regan's acting sucks, and also so does Dean's. I am sorry, these two are usually great actors, but I aint feelin it. This is like some horrible B grade. Wouldnt suprised me if this was improvised on the spot.

  • @HateClips Alot of it(early T.V) was.

  • White people can dance! Look at gene kelly and fred astaire! Two of the greatest dancers that ever lived and they were white!:)

  • Wow this is good footage
