  • Thats nice, but i didnt laugh

  • thats lovely

  • Someone who clearly loves his job and loves the reason he's got it, the passengers.

  • Love him!!

  • Excellent

  • Excellent

  • nice video

  • This sort of thing, whilst unusual, strikes me as being both good P.R. for the company and an added reassurance for any nervous flyers.

  • What a good captain. He really excells at customer service.

  • Must love it,ever tensed to fly, that man will do the deal, amazing captain, damn id feel so safe having him with, just cause he actually loved what he was doing aswell as had a good sense of humor =) He actually made flying intresting tothink of for the first time in years :P He is awesome

  • Meanwhile, the first officer is in the cockpit fuming over having to wear his oxygen mask while the captain is working on his standup career.

  • @nocalsteve Seeing as they're on the ground at this point and thus the chance of an explosive decompression is fairly small unless Malta sits atop a 30,000 ft high plateau, I'm fairly sure the F/O is NOT wearing his oxygen mask and is less likely 'fuming' than simply filling in the FMC for the flight. Regards.

  • What a legend :)

  • that's random!

  • For you dumbshits out there BA= British Airways and I'm sadly frm U.S.A too

  • @A380747wannaBEpilot The problem was not that BA = British Airways but the fact that this flight was in fact operated by GB airways.

  • 'Plane drivers' Christ your 32 and you talk like a 4 year old, but still good coment... I was a pilot for GB airways 1 summer and I was surprised how different they were to the BA pilots. The old GB pilots used to talk alot more to the passengers than BA pilots do.

  • Fred RIvet was good also...

  • Just like the old days...

    Excellent

  • Phil is a good friend of mine and is always just like this. One of the nicest peope I know. Also quite mad.

  • That was brillz I actuly had fun watching that.

  • wish more plane drivers were like this. we flew to orlando and the driver came out of the cockpit with his slippers on.

  • DRIVER????

  • they are called pilots.

  • driver??? are you fucking kidding me??

  • Amazing pilot, love him. Really wish more pilots were like that!

  • He is trying to say that that plane is not his.

  • What an exaent captain !

  • What a great Captain and as cool as hell. If more did this sort of thing which doesn't cost them anything to do anyway it would make a lot of people who are nervy of flying a lot better. well done GB Airways.

  • I flew with Phil today....what an awesome guy. Hopefully fly with him again!!

  • We flew with him on EZY 7881 to Crete on 6 June 09 and found him to be very funny and wish all pilots could be more like him

  • haha i'm envious of him

  • Entertaining man. Gives a human touch to a sometimes impersonal service

  • Excellent! Such charisma and personality instead of some speedy nasal announcement down a microphone :)

  • I have flown with on Phil's flight as cabin crew, and he is great to fly with, makes everyone so happy.....a pleasure to fly with!

  • HAHAHA ... im proud im proud.. IND33D H3 IS A L3G3ND

  • legend!

  • From one Captain to another, I also fly for BA, that's a nice thing to see, although, the most we can do now is stand at our flight deck doors and greet the boarding pax. This would certainly keep the pax happy :)

  • I want to a be pilot just like you:O

  • hahaha - that is so awesome! But what is the last thing he said there, about the runways and the map? :] Clearly it was funny, just didn't catch what he said! hehe.. Awesome guy!

  • He says he could take off from any runway, north, south, east or west, but he has got a map so he knows where he is going.

  • Very entertaining!!!! I would have loved to have been on that flight!!!!

  • While he's on the ground?

  • Terrorism was never a problem. The cockpit door is locked automatically and the plane can be flown and landed by one pilot.

  • I haven't flown with Phil but I am sure all of his pre flight checks were complete. The passengers clearly loved his act and most of GB's routes are the type of routes where people appreciate him. i.e holiday routes. Certainly as crew, and a passenger, i would rather have him than a Captain who is too far up his own arse.

  • Leave him alone

  • Leave Him alone.

  • again, leave him alone- he's only trying to add a little colour in to the otherwise dull world of PA Announcements- I'd like to see you do better.

  • Phil was our pilot going out to tenerife recently, we had such a laugh!

    ela

  • good stuff!

  • Absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good job captain.

  • All pilots should do the same procedures...

  • Excellent! I bet everyone on that aircraft took notice of the safety announcement.

  • Command is where you have authority. To have authority you don't have to be straight laced, stuck up and isolated!

  • Certainly adds a bit of 'flare' to the flight (pardon the pun)

  • good humor keep it up captain

  • Wish I could meet a pilot as cool as this guy!

  • Swingin! Well he finally got himself on you tube, it was going to happen one way or another.

  • fab!!!

  • From one Captain to another, you have wonderful flair Sir and never let the boring types dictate your style! Bravo!

  • Brilliant!!! Really nice touch

  • hi phil...no prizes for guessing who told me to watch this in geneva today...love and kisses jane...

  • ba? who, wat?

  • I've changed the title, better? ;)

  • Much Betters :-)

  • Lol, happened to me on a BA flight as well!

  • "There will be a quiz at the end" hahaha

  • I've flown for GB in the past and have great memories of the happy days aboard their aircraft, a great company and very special people who are an asset to GB Airways! A bit of humor is what the world needs!

  • come fly with me, lets fly, lets fly away!!!!!!!!

OH I JUST LOVE MY JOB!

    Kind Regards MONA x

  • Nobody is on about Phil Shaw on a personal level, neither have I actually flown with him being MAN based. However, on a holiday/leisure flight, this kind of 'caper' goes down very well with the majority of passengers. That just cannot be denied.

  • blah blah

  • Matt, you're right - we probably have been around a bit too long. I'm skulking around this post seeing who else from Phil Shaw's old 'club' is going to break cover to inform us just how 'humerous' the goat was when he was a trapper. It's good to see he's had a road-to-Damascus conversion tho and has now joined the humans. mcrry - pop down to yeovilton airday and mention PS's name - you'll get all the information you'll ever need to know about your captain - and more!! Best of luck

  • Hahaha! I've heard about his popularity at Yeovilton ;)

  • have we been flying too long?

  • Well i think the laughs and applause speak for themselves.

  • Yup but what you don't hear are the collective sighs from the rest of the cabin, who are all thinking 'tosser'!

  • Yes it does exist, I crew it regularly.

Malta-Manchester Departs MLA around 13.00 local and is operated by GB Airways-BA Franchise.

  • theres no such flight i looked it up in flight aware tracker

  • plastic fork, lol. Carnt afford to fly club then?

  • someone should have stabbed him in the eye with a plastic GB fork......

  • Randommetal, you've kinda got the right idea there! Patronising in the extreme with an ego to match, not everyone enjoys the Phil Shaw experience, I can assure you!

  • I would love to fly with this guy someday, seems a great character and you certainly wouldnt find this in america as they have no sense of humour

  • What a classic!

  • oh guys, liven up!! its not in peoples faces, its funny. leave the guy alone. like mcrry says, who wants snooty crew?

  • Kind of embarassing for the cabin crew but it's a holiday flight and the passenger reaction speaks for itself. If it's one thing I have come to learn is that passengers hate snooty crew. This kind of behaviour actually helps on some flights.

  • What a huge ego he must have...And personally as cabin crew myself I would hate to be dragged into all this pantomine(the Purser looks "thrilled" to join in the "fun") in front of non-consenting customers who have no choice but to endure this.Kind of funny(I'm sure the Captain is enjoying himself at least)...but too long and in people's faces!

  • Flew with this guy, 2 days after this video was taken. Was my 3rd flight as operting crew. Love him. keep it up Phill

  • Is there no where left on earth that I can possibly escape to, to get away from The Phil Shaw! A legend in his own mind

  • Yes it's GB Airways......many of our routes out of LGW and all out of MAN are leisure orientated and therefore this kind of behaviour is welcomed by many passengers. Many of our flight crews joke over the P.A.

  • crabhead he does not work for BA,it is GB airways

  • Sorry I thought it was a BA flight, and had a BA flight number ?

  • Is this type of behaviour encouraged at BA ?

  • What's his name?

  • Well done. Good when crew can have a bit of fun and when passengers are good enough to have a laugh! :)

  • He is a legend within GB Airways i think. I'm based at MAN and he is normally at LGW so i haven't flown with him personally yet. I know people who have though. Very funny!

  • You will find that he is actually a GB airways pilot on a GB airways flight as said in the PA!

  • Yep I know and that's why I listed GB Airways in the video description!

  • This guy isn't BA, got the wrong colour stripes!!

  • I LOVE THIS GUY...he should go into stand-up.
