The thing about that tune is that it shows you a nice acceptable melody rather akin to every day life, not boring as such, just standard unchanging niceness, then you have mad explosions of sound that seem so incongruous in the tune and yet so right, in the end that's what hitchhiker's is all about: one man going on a wild ride, and bringing Arthur Dent along for the hell off it.

A great song, great books, great BBC adaption (sorry, but the cine film was horrible) and a great author (H2G2 but also his other books e.g. "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" and "The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul" - I really love them ! )
