What were the signs hurting? Im very confused. I could understand if the signs were blocking a fire hydrant or extended on to a neighbors property. There wasnt a sign in that video that looked like it actually presented a danger to any body. Oh ya except people who want to rule the world. I 2nd that. Zoning laws should never effect the will of a persons opinion on his own property. Sure, let zoning laws dictate if there are too many strip clubs on a city block(even that I am not completely aligned with ;) ), but do not meddle with our freedom of speech and expression.

The argument about sign regulations is a bad one. The whole point of limited government is to restrict the government from taking away people's essential rights.What if the town passed a law with a size limit so small people could not see the signs? Political speech is essential for democracy, and chipping away at it bit by bit is not OK. Springfield should be embarrassed by this display of its values.

I drive by Mabus's house everyday. The sign does not obstruct any neighbors' view where it is at, plus it's a one way street. Ron Paul for president 2008.

I think Ron Paul is a kook, but this guy should be able to have a big sign in his yard. Still, even so, there should be some consideration for his neighbors, for example, a sign that blocks view of traffic if a neighbor has to pull out of driveway, would be too big.

Great Comments Liberty Loving Freedom Fighting Americans! (I did not say... A-Neo-Cons) Thank God for the Constitution of this Country. City ordinances do not trump the Constitution. Springfield officials and newscasters need to read the ordinance. Local channels continue to talk about a 60 day period, but the ordinance says 90 days before an event, with 14 days after to remove signage. But 1st amendment rights have no time or space limitations!

From other stories like this from around the country, it is clearly illegal & unconstitutional to suppress political speech with sign laws like these. Commercial speech can be regulated. NOT political speech on private property. The national Presidential campaign began with the first debates in May 2007. The 60 day rule is silly & illegal. It is what the First amendment is all about. Free speech. A news station ought to know that. Political free speech MUST be protected or all is lost.
