people with no time in a WW2 aircraft and then try to fly it on 100 hrs not realizing that the torque will either endo you or MAKE YOU GO BACK TO A BARON OR 210
I liked spits too but the cockpit is soo narrow that it would be a frustration to fly it.
i guess just go get a T-6 and cruise it around.
alot ceaper and more forgiving than a 51, or spit or corsair.
mustangs as well as other warbirds are WAYYY OVERPRICED for thier age.
mechanics charging wayyyy tioo much to go thru a Roll's V-12 to see if it's ok.
this cannot go on, it has to stop somewhere.
its takiing nthe fun out of watching these older plane's,
and making it impossible for a so called normal person with normal money to have one as theres soo many money grubber's around that are asking wayyyyy too much for an older plane.
@kirkconway seriously? It's better that they are overpriced so peons like you dont get there hands on them and smear you and the aircraft down the runway in a burning mess. If you want one work harder. Simple as that.
Higher prices after several decades of so-called "normal people" with money and NO experience with high-performance piston aircraft turning themselves into smoking holes in the ground. One P-51 was a time-share until a co-owner destroyed it and died. It's better that they remain exclusive to people with enough money AND common sense to own one. As for the V12 prices, blame the boat racers for using them up.
Video was zoomed in a bit, ao it gives the illusion of being closer. In general, a 50 foot perimeter is needed if the FAA is watching (at least that's what we use).
Great video, and I love that sound!. Seemed to have the throttle open a quite a bit on start, though.
@simpilot459 lol, for one what does the FAA have anything to do with how close you are to an aircraft that is running? Secondly I'd rather have the throttle cracked a little bit to much then not enough so the engine gets proper lubrication.
Show me the reg that says anything about 50 ft. It may say that for refueling operations but I've...n e v e r heard of a 50ft perimeter.
oh i hate when people are this close! gawly i marshal fighters for midland caf.. and those people just scare the crap out of me because they wana great shot! :/
We werent THAT close... and notice the security guy with the orange vest... In fact we were behind the wing of another plane perpendicular to the mustang. About 6 feet or so behind the guy in the hat shooting video with his Canon camera. Safe distance, but close enuf to get the Merlin Experience...!
im just saying, plus the cap dude doesnt know what hes doing hes supposed to be watching the crowd and ya this is still kinda close for my comfort anyway... i would have tols the cap dude to scute back
nice

@simpilot459 Re throttle setting: Let's put it this way, he's flying a P-51 and you and I aren't. Probably knows what he's doing?
