@cobrafizzo@Scratchy57 The space combat in STO is well regarded, and rightly so (it's certainly the most polished part of the game). Overall EVE is a much more accomplished game, but I find the hands on flight mechanics of STO make it much more enjoyable. Sadly, STO PvP doesn't support anything like the numbers of players in PvP seen in EVE (although there are areas - Fleet Actions - which support PvE space and ground battles on an epic scale, so you are kind of left wondering why).

wow, if i compare that with mass effect 2... me2 is cheeper, has better graphiks (well, the graphiks are ok, but not as good as the me2 graphiks) and has real shooter gameplay...

Combat dynamics would be nice for ground combat. I've heard story is lacking. And there is no penalty for death, which makes it laughable.
I'd love that if your ship is destroyed then you lose the ship. Maybe then you have to guide a small flotilla of escape pods back to a starbase or something. Enem ships can kill pods (very hard to do) to destroy 'crew' experience and key personnel. Your captain never dies, but you can lose your ship and crew abilities.
lol ya'll are shocking as far as STO is concerned this game makes Eve online look like an C64 game.. plus it has real space battles.. Lots of content..it has a good non child based community, it also only cost $29 to buy and $15 a month to play.. the graphics are latest.. the ground combat is tight and clean. same as space combat..
If this game was literally based off of the star trek universe instead of a watered down WOW it could be alot better. For example, instead of everyone getting their own ships they enlist and get higher ranks with their fellow players and could get ships based on their guild size. a small guild of like 5 could get a stealthy bird of prey, where as a large guild of like 40 could get a massive galaxy class ship. controlling the ships would be much different but it could be great if done right.
The ground combat sucks, and the space combat looks like it needs to be improved, if you want to play a game with space combat like this, wait for Jumpgate Evolution to come out.

MMO combat is beyond lame. If a guy gets shot... it should ruin his fuckin' day. It ain't an adventure without risk. This is nothing new, guy A shoots, hits Guy B in the face with his gun, Guy B returns fire and hits Guy A. Repeat until the guy with the most healing potions or their equivelent wins. MMO's should shoot for realism... if you get hit... you get jacked up. Like to run and gun... you get jacked up. And when you get jacked up... that's it... your dead. Start over.

@elbowbiter1 I know what you mean, they implemented a similar system in Diablo 2 as far as I'm aware. The only problem with having that same system in a MMO like STRO or WoW or w.e MMO you play is that the games are very progressive, and they want to be able to challenge you without having you to restart your months of progress. Perhaps make it an OPTION, if you want to play this hardcore mode then you can. But I personally wouldn't want to have to restart everything I've done 10+ times.

It is definatley adult MMO. the devs dont get involved with much griefing. they actually encourage it. you can be a "bad guy" but there's also vigil ante players and guilds that will hunt you down and make your game suck if you piss enough ppl off, there will be contracts on you and death has the penalty of you loose your ship, for good. (but most players own dozens of them) its lawlessness is probly somewhat akin to the days of UO
hey dude, I'm not gonna lie. WoW is a very good game IMO. It's not really a kiddy game at all, that's why it contains blood/gore, language and some more mature themes. It also holds some complex things to do in the game like dungeons and more advanced pvp. Guild Wars' pvp gets old really fast, and the lvl'ing servers suck really bad too. WoW is one of the better MMO's out there because they have a staff who cares and constantly tries to make it a better gaming environment.

Perhaps make it an OPTION, if you want to play this hardcore mode then you can. But I personally wouldn't want to have to restart everything I've done 10+ times.

It is definatley adult MMO. the devs dont get involved with much griefing. they actually encourage it. you can be a "bad guy" but there's also vigil ante players and guilds that will hunt you down and make your game suck if you piss enough ppl off, there will be contracts on you and death has the penalty of you loose your ship, for good. (but most players own dozens of them) its lawlessness is probly somewhat akin to the days of UO

hey dude, I'm not gonna lie. WoW is a very good game IMO. It's not really a kiddy game at all, that's why it contains blood/gore, language and some more mature themes. It also holds some complex things to do in the game like dungeons and more advanced pvp. Guild Wars' pvp gets old really fast, and the lvl'ing servers suck really bad too. WoW is one of the better MMO's out there because they have a staff who cares and constantly tries to make it a better gaming environment.

If you're looking for a game to go around and kill a different faction and use swords/bows World of Warcraft is excellent, But people might be into Space ship battles..Lasers, or even the whole Sci Fi thing, You can't compare 2 games that are completely different saying another is better when they have nothing in common.

the drama in eve is awesome but the learning cliff is very high

I've been trying it... it's a fun shooter-RPG type deal. I liken it to Mass Effect if you crossed it with Borderlands-style mission setup, but Mass Effect style combat. However the fact that they added ship combat is sweet.
