  • Using Cola is a common technique in Japan actually. It makes meat soft.

    Many people use Cola for cooking pork belly.

  • Actually, down in the south, we use Coca-Cola on hams in combination with Brown Sugar to add sweetness. It's delicious.

    Hattori-san is a great Stand-in Chairman. Bless his heart, his Allez Cuizine was very cool!

    Because time hangs too much, I think that I substitute it by "Coke" though "Millet jelly[Water candy?]" and "Caramel" are originally used.

    It is heard that it and the carbonic acid make meat soft.

  • Lamb is a great meat to work with. However it's easy to mess it up without the skills needed to actually make good dishes with it.

  • Hatori did a good job, but there is only one Kaga. Kaga is played by an actor, btw, but the Japanese take this so seriously it seems like something a real Maestro might do. Great show.

    Well, it depends on the pig. If the pig is clean, nothing special really happens. If it's unclean, then there's a surprise :)

  • hey i have a cookbook with tons that coca-cola is used in food. although you could use Pepsi as well probably but 100% you can use coca-cola in food i want try it one day.

  • @tgpgrimreaper: its an old religious belief that "god" doesnt like for us to eat pork because pigs were once men and to make them be unappetizing gave the meat worms. And to prove it my old pastor when i was a child would pour soda on pork and throw it ouside and over night it would get maggots... at a young age i belived it but if you throw any kind of meat outside over night it gets maggots. I love pork, and even if it did have worms, which it does not. i would still eat it cuz they are tasty.

  • Pizza was invented in Italy. It's just more popular in America where you can import more toppings from around the world.

    Personally my favorite toppings are pineapple and polish sausage with pepper jack cheese. I doubt you'll find that in Italy.

  • Pizza WAS invented in Italy, but not as we know it. Pizzas in Italy weren't drenched in cheese and toppings.

  • Good pizza has a thick crust and profound sauce as well as good toppings. Though cheap pizzas will just use loads of cheese or toppings to cover up sub-par ingredients. But if you really want a good pizza, you've got to stick to local restaurants. Shakespeares in Missouri, and The Hideaway in Oklahoma are some of the best you can get.

  • yea pork is definitely the tastiest meat I've ever had

  • I prefer lamb myself, but the flavor of pork when it's done right is terrific. And besides, it's the source of bacon, the most important piece of meat in ANY kitchen.

  • the theme ingredient was a bit too much in Chen's favor, usually the theme ingredient gives the advantage to the challengers since the iron chefs are used to battling.

  • Hmm I think Italian chefs have absolutely no problems with pork though. They have as much a love affair with piggies as the Chinese do. The challenger looked pleased and confident when the ingredient was revealed.
