I have maintained my liking of Simpsons since 90. I just think it's become quite a bit subtler and more intellectual, granted, this drains from the time Homer has to be an idiot. The Ralph for president episode was a prime example, it was meant to be satire with comedy, not comedy with satire as many of the earlier episodes were. And when compared to the low-brow but funny Family Guy, with it's swearing, nudity, violence, etc. The Simpsons can seem tame to an extent. But Ill stick with the 4ever

(this is what I found) His skin color was actually black instead of yellow. According to David Silverman, Gyorgi Peluci, the person who did the color styling randomly decided the ethnicity of various characters, which usually wasn't much of a problem, but it sort of ruined the white sycophant persona for Smithers. Budget constraints precluded recoloring, so they left it the way it was. If it really bothers you, just imagine that he has a Caribbean suntan

@Jaydaguy There's other reason. Due to Smithers' submission to Burns, the producers were worried that it could imply that black people should be subversive. So they changed Smithers's tone skin to avoid controversy.
