Grrrrr..... I have Asperger's but I don't freak out like that! >:C I do have anger management problems but I don't exhibit that type of behavior, like huddling in a corner.
The first two minutes were extremely annoyed to me. I have aspergers and I have never reacted like that, at least that I know off. I know I used to storm off and have angry tantrums, but I didnt huddle in a corner, interesting portrayal... Mind that being said I also know people with full on autism and I have never seen them act like that, So that portryal is annoying me a bit.
Though I agree completely with Brain and his Uncles speech <3 (:
Oh come that beginning part where he goes crazy because of the Dino-saw is a total exaggeration. i,ve got Asperger's and i never reacted like that to a new toy or situation. its a good video but what really gets to me about some of these videos is that so many people who Do not have Aspergers go around saying that Asperger's is a disability this and if you have it you see things like this this and this when people don,t have a clue what its actually like, but well done for making some awareness
Its Funny. People Make Fun Of Us With Asbergers. But If I May Say For All Of Us, We R Smarter Then THose Who Tease Us And May Even Have Brighter Future. I Think Jim Carrey Has This. I Know He Has ADHD.
I agree with most of this, but not that it itself is present from birth, underlaying factors present sense before birth, but not the complete syndrome. Environmental factors/toxins play a huge role and are part of the reason it is present sense birth...not a scientist, just been around it enough and know enough about the people who have it and their family to see the connection.
i have PDD-NOS another form of autism. i often run into things because i cannot see what is in front of me. i have a tendency not to look at people when i talk (eye contact) and i often get confused of what people mean when they say something. it can be difficult to stay on topic.( if someone and i were talking about the civil war, i will talk about the big bang.) it is very hard when i also have trichotillomania(the tendency to pull out hair and/or eat it)
Thank you for posting this episode...my son has autism as bad as the character is this episode and I have been trying to find this for him to watch...
...as for the rest of my other comment that got cut off as well. I wish they could have at least had another character confessing to being diagnosed.
I also disagree slightly with the power point guy, we don't all want "everything to be the same all the time", I personally like new things and am not like that all.
My favorite part was the Brain's explanation, and I also liked that one autistic girl at the end.
I meant to say far greater than the average, not far greater than 150, the last part of my comment was cut of. I was also going to put that from what I can deduce, aspies to tend to have higher than average intelligence, or at least high intelligence is much more common. I haven't had an accurate IQ test in a long time, but on a random online IQ test I've taken recently at 4:00 AM while super tired I got 142, and I I remember correctly I got somewhere between 120 and 140 when I took o
Of course it's the dyslexic kid who befriends the aspie and it's the Brain who is related to an Aspie.
I appreciate the effort, but did they really need to introduce a new character with more severe Aspergers when they already have several characters that could have been diagnosed with Aspergers? They have already used existing characters to introduce medical conditions before, so why not now? They could have at least had it so they still have Carl, but later on another character confesses to
Regarding IQ, I've seen studies go all over the place with aspies and IQ and I've seen averages everywhere from 96 to 120, but in most of the studies the average IQ of aspies was at least a few points higher than the general population, and seeing one poll on the diagnosed IQ of people on a website were most people were autistic the plurality was 130-150, and the next most popular bracket was 110-130, and the third most popular bracket was 150+, and my own IQ is far greater then th
"what they should have done was let me sit in on a lecture and then remove my from the class so that I could concentrate on my work rather then having to put up with the other kids bullying me"
- again, this isnt really viable: it would require an additional teacher to be dedicated to watching you each time.
- furthermore your bullying argument would apply to all people who are a target for bullying (not just aspies)
"aspies are not mentaly challenged we have average or above iqs"
- i never said aspies were mentally challenged, but something you might care to note is that the bulk of aspies have a negligible IQ difference from the general population and that the primary reason why the IQ statement is totted-out so often is to counter the immediate assumption that their condition makes them stupid.
"I was throen into the classes for the mentaly challenged rather then getting the regular curriculm"
- well im not sure how it worked at your school, but in modern schools the special ed programs exist to cater to those who need additional help, anyone with a noteworthy form of retardation would probably not be in such a school (and instead be going to a 'special school')
I am currently 25 years old and I have aspergers growing up in the mid-late 90s early 2000s I wish that stuff like this would have been more in the media I kinda got robbed of an education because of peoples misunderstanding of me, thus I was thrown into special education rather then getting the kind of attention that I needed in my classes however I plan to try and take some post secondary classes to hopefully catch up to a high school equivalency education.
"I was thrown into special education rather then getting the kind of attention that I needed in my classes however"
- isnt that what special education classes are for? 'kids that need additional attention'.
- i'm aware that your case wouldnt be exactly what it was intended for, but you really cant expect all schools to cater for problems of every minority (if for no other reason than it being a funding issue)
(I'm not trying to be insensitive, after all, I suffer from aspergers) but has anybody seen the 'i like trains' guy from asdf movie? Carl reminds me of him!
I have A.S. but not a whole lot like Carl's case. The only similarity is we both love trains, haha!
A.S. is both a blessing and a curse, but it's life. Kids today have it easier than I did back in the early 90's; there is more awareness and understanding among teachers and parents nowadays.
to answer the question at 07:22 Asperger's is a different kind of personality that sometimes comes across to people as strange, when it's only ever just being a difference that usually causes very high intelligence. i'm 19 and was diagnosed with it when i was 3-4 years old and looking back on my life now i did often feel that i was different in some ways and wondered why i never got the same social reactions as everyone else did,but i was always very knowledgeable and good at what i did
what with the documentary thing interrupting the cartoon? Kinda annoying imo. But this is a cool episode:) Didnt know there was an Arthur episode about AS. I have AS as well.
My 6 year old son loves this episode and has Asperger's. Very proud that this was made to give other kid's a great description of how children with Asperger's think.
I really am astounded by how well the show Arthur handled this topic. I was taken aback in the episode by how hard Carl went to try and understand George. I wish our world were as altruistic by comparison...
If this show was realistic they would show the part where all the kids treat the kid like crap and laugh about it. Then when the kid grows up he jumps off a bridge
he covers the sides of his head when his ears are at the top....0_o just an oddity I noticed. that puppet was a bit creepy, how did it suddenly get teeth?
@gethsoftware no it's not a panic disorder, yes he did have a panic attack and yes it is Asperger's Syndrome as you may have noticed the clear good memories and factual speech of Carl, and the over-preference for carton over bottle
@JPPIZZAS Like most animated children's shows, Arthur is comprised of two 11 minute segments. So one is called When Carl Met George and the other segment is George and the Missing Puzzle Piece.
I have aspergers too, I used to break down when someone would yell at me or get a little bit mad, or whenever I didn't understand a math problem. But just like Lady Gaga says, "I'm beautiful in my way, and God makes no mistakes. I'm on the right track baby, I was Born this Way!"
@treecebeaast you should not see it as a disorder just because you and me are geneticly difrent you can be proud being the next step in human evolution even though sometimes people dont or wont understand us

My fixation, for lack of a better word, is often with my personal writings or video games
@MJTRadio I am still pissed, we never see an Aspie or gay character that is actually cool or someone I would want to be. This kid is like one those lame, one shot characters in 80s cartoons that address a disibilty and never appear again.
@Frizzurd Yeeeeeeaaaaah I'm not going lie and say I would argue with that... It still isn't up to par by any rights, but still... It is a lot better than I can see most anywhere else.
@Frizzurd Yeah, it's as if they can't actually be a part of daily life. Like they're some kind of freaks that only show up every once in a while, like a circus coming to town.
Hah, it's funny that You mentioned "Office Politics", the people at some of My jobs always eventually started to think that I was a little weird and that's a horrible thing to be thought of as different in an office environment because most of those office people are usually big talkers and people persons.
