  • Okay, so the video's from a different blurb. But can anyone confirm if this is an actual John Lennon QUOTE? If this is a recording of him from another setting, or at the very least if it's something he wrote being read by somebody else?

  • So in effect, the producers of this fake clip are doing exactly what they are arguing against. Looking at the past to find inspiration for the future.

  • I thought the edited version sounded more like George than John lol.

  • ??? sinnlos....

  • Who was the voice artist?

  • Yoko Ono is to blame for this commercial. Her son Sean Ono Lennon says this material was not sold for the profit, but to keep John Lennons memory alive. How ridiculous is that? Of course they sold the footage for the profit. That makes me sick!

  • Oh how intensly i hate this sick and twisted world we live in today.

I will never buy a Citroen.. ever!

  • Man, John would have been so disapointed with Yoko for aproving this. John was a left wing activist with environmentalist leanings and would have been appaled at grave-robbing his image to sell mass-produced carbon spewing automobiles.

  • HA! I always knew their was something fake about this commercial, the accent and lip sync are just a ridiculous attempt..

Whoever came up with this stupid idea should be sued for this crime!

Beatles will live forever, at least their brilliant compositions.

  • So... concerning the voiceover.. did lennon ever say such a thing at all?

  • Woe unto thee, Citroen !

  • i hate citroen because of direspect john lennons legacy- i never will buy or drive a citroen in my life and i will prevent all my people from buying one...

  • i don't think i even John Lennon himself would approve of this !!!

  • @johnalantheofficial That's what i thought seeing this on TV, i wonder how they got the rights for this

  • Yoko is a wrinkly old cunt for doing this. I bet she smells like cabbage. Fucking gold digger.

  • @MisterDanceMachine Seriously, I love how she claims that she didn't do it for money. BULLSHIT!

  • sounds more like george than john ha

  • I hate yoko i hate yoko i hate yoko i hake yoko i hate yoko...... sean is just a puppet, he seriously seems to have no mind of his own.

  • Can Anybody Write what was He saying? Because I'm Italian and I can't understand! xD

So, if you write it down... i'll translate it in italian... Thank You very Much!!!!!

  • @EMA19694: I'm not completely sure, but here you go:

ORIGINAL: So I was writing ‘Spaniard in the Works’ and I knew – I never got past the story – the one on my page. So I read a whole stack of sort of a madman Sherlock Holmes where you [get] all the stories in one and realised that every story was the same story. So I just wrote one Shamrock Womlbs after three weeks of Sherlock Holmes in Tahiti. And that was the end of it.

  • @Fuhbo

I think John Lennon would hate modern American procedural crime drama TV shows then, they're all the same.

    I know I hate 'em.

  • Why are people having a go at Citroen? They paid Yoko Ono for this image. She said in a statement. "I am going to bleed John for every penny I can. That bastard only left me worth $1bn I need more. Fuck his image of peace and the fact he is an inspiration to millions make his dead body sell cars." Yoko Ono

  • Hey Monsieur Citroen: DON'T touch John Lennon! If you're not able at least to sell your unnecessary cars being creative please don't touch our last decent people. I'll keep riding my bike, you motherfuckers!

  • Nothing has changed it's still the same

I've got nothing to say but it's O.K.

( but his fake voice is amazingly real, can some tell me who played John?)

  • Dear Citroen:

    Enjoy the lawsuit, assholes.

  • one thing that made the beatles differnt was they never adverticed and never but there music in to the adverticing world. in resent years Iv been hearing more songs of theres on Tv adds and now there Faces on adds. I asked around. found out that michael jackson had the rights to there music and was very carful were the beatle music was played but who ever has the rights now is more lax about this.I feel it is making them slitly cheep which the beatles are far from. they are a class of there own!

  • thanks for the bullshit

  • No what I mean? ( Lennon never said anything like that, its poor english, and a throw away line for idiots or Noel Gallahger

  • great ad!

  • I was shocked when I heard it, they don't show it here in Sweden....

    - THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE THAT OTHER COMERCIAL THEY USED.....THE ONE WITH THE COMPUTERS!

IT'S LIKE TAKING A DEAD CADAVER AND USING ITS AS A PUPPET FOR A FREAKIN' PUPPET SHOW - IT'S SICK!

  • Guys Steve Cock here. I've received a few queries asking if I'm aware of hypocrisy.

Nope, can't say I have...not aware that it's wise to stop digging...man I get my attractive self into some mean holes whilst trolling here on YouTube, but I don't know any better.

Well it's none of your business how I shape and bend what's deemed acceptable, OK.

So what if you all think I'm wrong, I'm right and that's all that matters, right?

  • @TheSteveCock ROFL SteveCock. Hey!! Steveconn wants to kick your ass! If you fight him make sure you show up waterproof boots and raincoat to protect you from his bullshit splatter. LOL

  • @Reason4U2Die

Are you the anti-semitic asshole making those taunts? Do you have the guts to come out and admit it if that's the case? Nope, just a sad stalker trailing me around. Next.

  • @steveconn Nope I am not racist in anyway Steveieboy, unlike you. Sorry, I am not SteveCock, though I do enjoy his taunting of you. What's the matter son? Do I make you nervous by pointing out your mistakes everytime you insult the Beatles? Notice I have never commented on anything but your insults of the Beatles (and their fans). You wish I were a stalker though, you hyperegoeccentricty demands one LOL Speaking of stalking, I notice how you stalk the Beatles. Why is that? Lonely?

  • @steveconn Oh yes, and again, name those chords moron. Back up your "facts" if you can. Prove me wrong :) It was your claim, back it up or shut up :)

  • @Reason4U2Die

Just because I feel sorry for you, you sick fuck:

All You Need Is Love, Instant Karma, Mind Games.

Whether you agree or not, I could care less. Get some mental help, stalk someone else, or just blow your brains out. No one needs a stalker.

  • @steveconn Au contraire mon ami, you certainly do. However, as I said, don't flatter yourself, I don't stalk you. I simply point out your asanine insults regarding the Beatles and their fans. You state lies as though they are fact and then fail to back up your so-called "facts". By the way, that list of yours is a list of songs, not chords. Also, each of those songs has a different chord progression. You failed. Try using your ears, as you like to say. And my, my, my you are getting testy LOL

  • @steveconn Descending to the level of profane insults are we now son? Your nervousness and insecurity are showing my boy. Try to relax, take a deep breath, and then realize: it's okay to be wrong. LOL

  • @steveconn Oh, and I am still waiting for those 3 chords :) You can't do it so why not just admit you made a false generalization? Or is that more than your overinflated ego can handle? There there, everything will be ok...little steps...little steps. I'll send you a coloring book if it helps LOL

  • Everybody...take no notice of me..as you can see , I'm a repulsive Yid who leaves a whole trail of shitty comments all over You Tube , basically because I'm a total middle-aged prick.

Check out 'Beatles Candlestick Park 3' for an almighty mental breakdown about 10 pages ago.

Had my Yiddish ass whipped so badly that I've been scrabbling around here , searching for the next online fight I can pick and if I lose, as I usually do, I'll be off to spout comedic shit on some other video.

  • @TheSteveCock

Why don't we exchange addresses, TheSteveCock, so I can beat your cowardly anti-semitic ass into the pavement? What, rather hide behind a cheap psuedonym and attack me that way? Thought so. Gutless asshole.

  • @steveconn ROFL Keep it up SteveCock, I smell another meltdown ROFL Really Steveconn? Now you are having to resort to threats of physical violence? You really are a sad and spoiled child. Perhaps time to take your ritalin? LOL

  • thanks a lot for posting this well done research. the whole issue becomes a complete new meaning. it needs people like you who look behind the scenes. otherwise the manipulation of the media gets worse and worse.

cheers once again and best regards from germany!

  • John had a good sense of humour and i bet, he'd loved the spot.

Mentioning the "60s and 70s" makes absolutely clear, that this CANNOT be his own voice, as every fan recognizes in an instant: this is late 60's footage.

"Don't trust any media" is the underlying message. And: "be creative, don't think backwards" Both fits perfectly well into John's legacy. in our days it may take a TV ad to spread this message. But this is 2010. Don't be so retro, guys. ;)

  • i think more people should know about how fake this is.

    thanks for the video. :3

  • I've wondered why the image of John seemed to sputter and be out of synch in the Citroen commercial... now I can see why. It's not Lennon's voice nor his words - and they needed to hide that somehow. The more I think about this whole shitty deal the more it seems wrong. Just wrong. Shame on you Yoko for once again selling out your late husband, and Sean - forget trying to defend mom about this in your Tweets ...she plain out right fucked up. Just face it.

  • I'll never buy a Citroen!

Fuck off, you frenchy car-makers. Stop insulting this genius.

  • Citroen actually gave him a more meaningful thing to say than his drug-addled take on the genius of Arthur Conan Doyle. Thanks Citroen for saving Lennon from himself.

  • @steveconn I'd rather listen to the most asinine thing Lennon ever had to say than your embittered psuedo psycho-babble troll bullshit..why don't you go lick Yoko's ass for selling John's integrity..she probably needs another face-lift..

  • @steveconn Like John said, you've read one Sherlock Holmes story, you've read them all..at least John used three notes, sounds like Doyle was a ONE trick pony..imagine his wife was a real beauty too, if he wasn't gay..besides, everybody knows Dirty Harry was the greatest detective ever..quit living in the library.

  • @steveconn I imagine you, like a friend of mine , fancy yourself to be Sherlock Holmes, that's cool, I have a brother who has a Napoleonic complex and a friend who thinks he's Ceasar, the list goes on.. there was a name for it in high-school psychology that slips my mind, subjugation of the ego or something, I just call not being original enough to come up with something of your own..it's ok to be you..love your self..thanks.

  • @steveconn If you have enough imagination and curiosity about life than there are plenty of mysteries to attend to without having to read someone else's, it's like porno, why should I watch someone else do it....like making your own music.. Lennon was an original, the mystery he tried to solve was how to make the world a better place...unlike Ceasar...Caesar...Caligula...dam ! (Glad I got you to turn off the computer and step out your front door)

  • @celloprofundo

Yes, why should anyone read great literature, or listen to Beethoven and Mozart, since you obviously learn nothing from their imagination or intelligence? Congratulations, you win the award for the most ridiculous, bullshit advice on youtube, which considering youtube is pretty remarkable.

(And lying in bed with your no-talent girlfriend for camera crews isn't makiing the world a better place, it's just narcissism).

  • @steveconn Comparing A.C./ D.C. Doyle to Mozart, Beethoven, and Lennon is like comparing Yoko Ono to Joni Mitchell, Neil young, and Jackson Browne....shirley Sherlock, Professor Moriarty taught you that the first victim in a charactor assassination attempt is the would-be assassin...and narcissism comes with the artistic territory, who could be a great artist if they didn't believe that they were absolutely the best ..even Justin Timberflake thinks he's the Alpha-Hound of the Basketcases...

  • @celloprofundo

I'm not sure what your babble about Justin Timberlake is about, but people often compare great literary artists with great musical artists in history. Doyle created a fully realized, highly intelligent character that has inspired countless adaptations and tributes, from the works of Dashiell Hammett to the latest Robert Downey Jr. vehicle. Comparing Doyle to a talentless publicity addict like Yoko Ono is simply thoughtless, but that's what I've come to expect from you.

  • @steveconn Oh YEAH ? Well it's quite elementary my dear Watson, if fame is any indicator of talent how come 9/10th's of the world's popoulation has heard of Yoko Ohno but only only 1/10th has heard of A.B.Doyle? Riddle me that one, Professor Dumbledore..the only great thing he ever did was to have a great fictional charactor named Conan the Barbarian created by the better fiction writer Robert E. Howard ...named after him...so put that in your opium-filled pipe and suck on it, con-man.

  • @celloprofundo Excellent point cello! Another thing worth pointing out to Steveconned is the fact that a large percentage of people can name all 4 Beatles. Not really the case with the bands Steve claims are greater. On a side note, by sheer coincidence I am in the middle of reading Howard's Conan books atm They are considerably better than I had expected. Excellent stuff!

  • @Reason4U2Die Poor Pete Best ;-)

  • @steveconn Actually, everyone (including Doyle) can thank Poe for the detective/mystery story genre as he is the true inventor. Though Doyle did make an iconic character with Holmes, no doubt there.

  • @celloprofundo haha, the alphahound of the basketcases, good find, you think to quicly my friend ;-) Elementry my dear Watson ;-)

  • @steveconn Nice, your lack of musical knowledge shines through yet again Steve. So, please inform us all about the only three chords that Lennon used (and only used them descending according to you) and in which songs he repeated them over and over. Fact is, Lennon used dozens of chords in his songs, as did McCartney and Harrison. And suuuure you've read all of Doyle's Holmes stories. I believe that as much as I believe your lie about being trained in classical piano and violin.

  • @steveconn Oh, and this time please actually answer the question about the "same 3 descending chords" instead of dodging the question and trying to deflect to something else.

  • @Reason4U2Die

I was conversing with celloprofundo, not you. Stop following me around.

  • @steveconn Nope, you were insulting celloprofundo and blasting The Beatles, yet again. I'll stop following you as soon as you stop following the Beatles with your baseless insults. Now, answer the question: Which chords?

  • @Reason4U2Die

You flatter your own importance. I owe your demands no explanation. Go away.

  • @steveconn In other words, you have no idea which 3 chords, right Steve? You have no idea because your claim that Lennon used the same 3 descending chords over and over is, at best, ignorance, and much more likely, a flat out lie. So, which three chords son? You're the one who made the claim chump, now back it up or realize that everyone here see's it as an admission of your inability to do so because you are simply a liar. Do you need a coloring book to help you figure out the chords?

  • @Reason4U2Die Thanks R4U2D2, I think we have him painted in a corner that even his lame-ass hero Shoeless Joe Holmes couldn't weasel his way out of now... by the way, do you think Holmes could have figured out what John saw in Yoko? I think it's in the eyes, John had almost oriental eyes back in the early days..probably something about love being blind, also, I know they both wore glasses...thanks.

  • @celloprofundo I agree, he is backed into a corner. I just keep going back to the "name those 3 chords Steve" based on his moronic claim made earlier. He can't answer it because he knows it is a lie. As far as what Lennon saw in Yoko, only John himself knows. I did hear him in an interview one time say that he loved her because she is basically him "in drag". Like you said though, love is blind. He saw something there he loved. Nope, Holmes would have just puffed his pipe LOL

  • @Reason4U2Die I think that's what Jagger saw in Bianca...himself ; )...Maybe Sherlock Jr. had a point about narcissism... I remember being laid-off one summer and reading all the Conan books while under the influence of some marvelous Columbian..magical..the comics and the god-awful movie couldn't hold a candle to the paper-backs...wonder you can still find one..one thing you can say about stefconn, he might be a pathological liar and a miscreant but he is SOMEwhat amusing ; )

  • @celloprofundo Oh yeah, the paperbacks blow those crappy movies away! The paperbacks aren't sold anymore to the best of my knowledge ( I am assuming you mean the Lancer/Ace series of 12), but you can find them pretty cheap on amazon or half. And yes, I do agree that our Stephanieconn is quite entertaining LOL I think he must be a masochist too. His parents must not have loved him enough, but seriously, who could blame them? In Sparta he'd have been abandoned and left to die ;)

  • @Reason4U2Die Who's to say he WASN'T abandoned and left to die? That would probably make anyone bitter , )..but in Sparta I don't think they would have gone to all the trouble of abandoning him, just toss him in the hole or feed him to the hounds..BUT where would the tube be without trolls? It would be like the Ohio Express singing "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" all day, god awful too saccharine...so as his favorite Beatle, John, might say, give Steve a chance ; )

  • @celloprofundo Isn,t that the theory about the Mona lisa, a selfportret of DaVinci as a woman. And don,t we also hate in others what we hate in ourselves? hmmm confusing, love and hate,a thin line even on self hate and love;-)

  • @Choefoe I think everybody has self-haterd to varying degree's, unless your a socio-path ; )..it's just like warts though, nobody will reveal that about themselves, for risk of being rejected, but mature love is loving someone "warts and all", eh ?..so nobody's perfect, and we're all blind to our own faults..maybe DaVinci just thought he looked better in drag..and he wasn't even British ; )

  • @steveconn HEYYY,he,s not lying in bed with me in front of the camera,s, but I am talented ;-)

  • @Choefoe

    Ooookay...

  • without Citroen: my new Song with a DS

  • at first: thanks for this video.

i think it's very evil doing this with lennon's interview. he never said words like that. maybe it wasn't his opinion at all.

why couldn't they take another famous guy who is still living?? why lennon?? yoko ono wants only the money, so she gave citroen lennons rights of this interview. awful...

but why did citroen it so obviously?? i mean that skewing of his voice...

  • Comment removed

  • @PhilinePhilippe i think thats very important that everyone know this !!

  • His original thoughts, without the mindless adverisement redact whateverism, about the formulaic aspects of the Sherlock Holmes stories and what that says about our most precious myths were dead right, too.

    Smart guy.

  • I thought it would have been better if john was on a claims direct advert with 2 bullet holes in his chest...

I say this as a joke of course. Now i have learnt to express utter disgust through humor instead of anger .

  • I thought it would have been better if john was on a claims direct advert with 2 bullet holes in his chest...

I say this as a joke of course. Now i have learnt to express utter disgust through humor instead of anger .

Much much respect to this genius

  • gr8 commercial i love it

  • I didn't like that they used John for a commercial, it sucks.

  • This is a fucking scandal, if more people were influenced by the past maybe the music today wouldn't be so shitty

  • @3ig3ang no men that a clichy(cliché)

first yea this is fucking scandal!!!BUT

even if there was a lot of shit today and most of the music u heard on the radio or tv is shitty ... moove a little bit on the undeerground and u will see dam fucking good music!

rock still here, and a lot of new sound and music .

  • how sick can you be to copy the voice of a big man in the history and use it for you to make money?! they used his face just to make people believe in this stupid thing "anti retro" cuz when u see john lennon (or someone else very famous) you think "oh, that's right! if he said that, he should be right"

    :|

  • I dont like that they took him for a commercial.

And i dont like that they put words in his mouth he never said.

But what the fake John Lennon says isnt that wrong, a lot of people live in the past too much.

  • Citroen is now permanently off my vehicle shopping list. (Not that it was ever on my vehicle shopping list)

  • He was talking about his book cuz they were doing a play about it, the National Theatre Company was. I have the original interview on my favourites.

  • Know what I mean?

    Nope :I

  • that's incredible! very similar voice. thanks for this.

  • I feel fuckin cheated...

  • poor john...he would be cryin in his graveyard ....

  • Yep, you can see that his mouth in the second footage does not match the audio.

  • What an irony... They use such a nostalgic figure and voice (actually fake) so as to advert that nostalgia is something bad!!! Lennon will always be an inspiration.

Thanks to the uploader for keeping our eyes opened.

  • This makes me so angry how could they do this??

  • of course they used john...can't u see??PEACE is back in fashion again..even hippies' style is back in fashion..they don't even know what john standed for, they just wanna make money using him..they don't even use his own voice..all they want is john's face just coz everybody knows him..THIS IS SICK..

  • @prepotatoes10 Yep, there were people at my school this past year who were wearing Beatles shirts, but could not name any of their albums, any of their songs, or even their names!

  • @Beatleboy62 cool story bro

    all bullshit though

  • @Beatleboy62 i hate those kind of people , wearing those shirts for imagine , there not music fans mate

  • @Beatleboy62

That's sad, just hopping on the Beatlewagon...

    "Uhhh.....Ringo McCartney?"

"Uhhh....Peter Pepper and Queen of Hearts Club?"

    "Uhhh....Strawberry Submarine?"

  • @Beatleboy62 yeah people also wearing Guns & Roses, ACDC or other Old School Rock Band T-shirts only because they think they're cool (btw im 15 years old...)

  • @Beatleboy62 You don't understand.. The Beatles are bigger than their albums and their songs.. And bigger than Ringo, George, John and Paul.. In 200, 500, 1000 years or as long as humans will be on Earth people will know The Beatles, cos they are a legend, but probably people in general won't know their albuns, songs or even their names.. It's a pity, but that's how it works..

  • @prepotatoes10 There should be a 0 after your thumbs...

  • @prepotatoes10 peace may be back amognst the people... but the people that control our world (the GOVERNMENT) dont like that peace buisness at all. soo pretty much... we need to get rid of the worlds mafia style government... mainly US.

  • As Bill Hicks said, anybody who works in advertising and marketing should shoot themselves 22

  • Argh... I hate the French... they ruin everything...

  • i saw it 2 minutes ago for the first time! XD

    i was wondering^^

  • watching this, it´s amazing how Liam Gallagher acts like Lennon

  • Even though the advert is shit and obviously not John Lennon, it is still a good message

  • I think the audio is the real voice of Lennon. Maybe from a radio interview circa 1980.

  • but still an awesome commercial

  • what a fail commercial.

  • It does sound like Liam Gallagher 'd'you know what I mean?'

  • I thought it was a voice over! Who is that voice over? It sounds like Liam Gallagher. Reply please anyone who knows.

  • Ono has sunk to a new low with this atrocity.

She treats Lennon as if he were a thing for her to manipulate according to her latest whim.

She is not a fraction the artist that he was and I think that reality gnaws away at her massive ego on a daily basis and as a result we have to endure things like this.

  • nowadays its nothing new to have a icon advertise, but to put words into a mans mouth like this is cheating anyone who listens to this

  • Where did my message go? lol :-)

  • I didnt like this advert at all - I didn't like its message.

There is nothing wrong with nostalgia and there is certainly nothing wrong with being influenced by the past. Nostalgia for the past can be an act of rebellion - rebellion against the values of the present.

As for not being influenced by the past - read

'Nothing is original' by Jim Jarmusch. Or 'The ecstasy of influence' by Jonathan Lethem.

We're ALL influenced by something - which can also include the past.

    Good post - 5*

  • This is most definately not a scouse accent, it doesnt even come close. this has got to be as irritating as the Go Compare adverts!

    Utter crap

  • Shameful Money Grabbin' Yoko Ono for this commercial. Even sounds like a Manc..

  • @vandervelde84 My dad (Nievely) asked if that was Liam Gallagher doing a voice over on John! Lol! Sounds very manc!

  • He does lol.

  • Citroen Bastards

  • fake voice over, awful editing, that's a crap ad

  • look's like yoko is cashing in on johns fame again, post mortis, it's an abomination to the memory of john lennon, (rip). Have citroen no shame?

  • so are we saying that the voice is john lennon, but just from a different time period?

  • No it's not John Lennon. It's not his accent, nor his intonation. It's nowhere near him. I wonder why they didn't use a real Lennon quote. This doesn't help sell anything.

  • Hate this ad ; nothing like him ; sounds more like Liam Gallagher who THINKS he is Lennon but is a moron. Imagine (excuse pun) all the people thinking it IS Lennon's voice

  • @xavierbaudet you're wrong-it is him-the first one anyway (obviously the 2nd is an actor)I have this interview on tape....sad that Yoko let them use it,sad

  • @thenowuk

If was replying to someone who wondered if the Citroen-add was the real Lennon. I said it wasn't him, not even close. Clearly the Spaniard In The Works interview WAS him.

  • You're welcome :-)

  • Brilliant! I did wonder if it was him or not in the advert. The voice was so out of sync and it didnt quiet sound like him. Thankyou for this video!

  • It's not John's voice at all. It's not even someone from Liverpool - sounds more like someone from Manchester or Warrington/Bolton area. One thing's for sure though, citroens are still pretty awful cars.

  • very true
