  • now thats a fuckin hodown! yeeeehaaaa!!!!

  • i don't think Roy gets enough credit for how great he is.

  • Comment removed

  • Loved every minute!

  • BEAUTIFUL : )

  • Two words on his pickin......HOLY SHIT !!!

  • If that guitar was a woman, Roy would be charged with rape.

  • WOW That was MENTAL!!!! I dont even know what to say about that!

  • Those dancing pigs are kinda disturbing, because they look a bit like some of the girls I used to date.

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Roy's facial expressions are PRICELESS! lol!

  • 7 people are jealous or have personal issues.

  • Roy is number one period. Better than Hendrix, Vaughn, Malmsteen, Van Halen, Satriani, and those in his time such as Atkins and Reed. Hands down no one can touch him...if u are still not sure, just watch him play "guitar wizard"...or any other one of his instrumentals. I play metal riffs and have played my whole life and i've heard it all. This guy is untouchable.

  • John Petrucci of country

  • Roy Clark Guitar Wizard

  • Watch "Roy Clark Guitar Wizard" to truly experience his talent!

  • That was the gueetar king right thar!!! Guys such as Beck, Page, Clapton, Townsend, Hendrix and Richards are or were great. But I'll bet none of em' could do this. However, I bet Roy could have duplicated them.

  • He's amazing on guitar. Whoa

  • Add Jim Stafford as well..

  • Need to add Glen Campbell to that mix as well....

  • what guitar is that?

  • Holy crud he's faster and cleaner than heck. I would state that it's not as musically complex as guys like Atkins, Travis, Hank Garland, or any number of jazz greats and a fair number of great rock players. This is fast, but it's not that inventive. For clean speed he's up there with Les Paul, Joe Maphis and Hendrix, but all three could out think him by far.

  • The smile he does at the first part lol

  • So fucking metal

  • @halolamer Anything is metal if you play it fast enough man

  • how do i get my chin off the floor?

  • Pure GOLD

  • The legendary musician, Mr. Roy Clark. Note the speed and accuracy this piece requires. He delivers it and more with grace and a grin, making it look too easy (which it isn't) - the hallmark of a true pro. Not one note out of place. WOW

  • I'm mostly like classic rock from the 60's with guitar giants like Townshend,Clapton and Hendrix but I don't believe for one second any rock god has half the outright ability of a Clark or Atkins.

  • Love Roy Clark!! Thanks for posting this video. On a side note I remember my grandmother loved He-Haw and as kids she made us watch it when we came over. She would convince us this week the dancing pigs would be on...some weeks they would and some they wouldn't...we would have to endure many an episode just to find out ha ha I wish I realized at that time how much talent was on the show.

  • i will not live long enough to be able to play that well...but i can dance just like those pigs...hee haw:D

  • Wow. Just wow.

  • Right! you never compare Roy to anyone, Roy is a God unto himself on the guitar...one of the greatest of his day,and his wizardry still stands!

  • @Eddieguitarloebs :) Good point, but Roy is more than a -guitar- god, seems he can play most stringed instruments very well - violin, mandolin, banjo ... and does it all with joy and humour. Just the greatest ...

  • @MangoDTango That is true,Roy was a multi instrumentalist! A natural born musician...A rare talent was he! Still is!

  • The Venerable Roy Clark in his own animated picking style. Lol!

  • If it wasnt for Family Guy I would have no idea who this guy is, but hes still amazing

  • Roy kicks my ass .....he's a natural....I do believe he could show anybody up

  • If you enjoyed this, you may enjoy "Pickin' and Singin'" by Joe Maphis, which is on YouTube as well. As for comparison, it's a mug's game. Find the greats and enjoy them all, I say.

  • Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Big Jim Sullivan, that`s just a few names mentioned of guys who knew all the tricks of the guitar long before Eddie Van Halen brought it to the front in the late 70`s. They were masters of the instrument, they could play fast and with feeling and that`s hard to do. Most guitar players admire other players that are great no matter what genre they play, rock, country, etc. As long as it`s somebody we can learn from the respect is always there.

  • Apparently 6 people dislike soulful American music. Maybe these are the same people who dislike Coltrane, Hendrix, or Jeff Buckley.

  • @peasantsoul theyre the same six miserable bastards that live in their parents basement, have no talent, and troll these videos.

  • WOW

  • I am almost 50 years old and have rarely seen ANYONE play A stringed instrument as well as Clark plays ANY of them. Really, really impressive!! Is there any stringed instrument that he didn't (or couldn't) master? The mind boggles...

  • Holy shit....My mind just blown

  • jesus christ amazing

  • I truly believe that most heavy metal guitarist would agree that this is ultimate guitar playing, along with the likes of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed....They all did phenomenal with out distortion and special effects that we have today. Can you just imagine that guitar playing from these guys with all the special effects of Eddie Van Halen and Joe Satriani (sp)...

  • @biffy18 I know, these guys were shreding it up back then!!

  • @biffy18 True, I'm a metal head, and I can only dream of being able to play as good as Jerry Reed, or Chet Atkins.

  • WOW..are you kidding me... And look at his face. He is just kidding around. Hate to see him if he really got serious with a guitar.LOL..

  • I bet malmstien can't chicken pick!

  • My ex-wife was the second pig from the right......nice job Roy !

  • @timtipton5071256 yours too uh!!!!

  • I would marry the pig next to her if Roy would play at the wedding! True talent that man has.

  • So much joy. Great mastery of an instrument. What a guy, am I right?

  • insane

  • Why berate other talent just agree they were all great and let it rest

  • There are indeed quite a few beyond remarkable guitarists who have gone underrated because of their propensity to play "country" music. Someone mentioned Albert Lee......indeed. Clapton called him the best; of course that's subjective...but his speed, and style have left their mark on many, many recordings for decades. I think Roy Clark's singing career did more to mask his instrumental wizardry than anything....I always found it bo-ring. His playing though; wow......

  • Roy just didn't play the guitar, he was gifted on the slide steel guitar whatever instrument it was and a great violinist to boot. I'm not a fan of country western music, but I was sure a fan of Roy Clark.

  • Jesus .......99.999% of the pantheon of rocks greatest players WISH they could do this. UN BE LIEVABLE.

  • You need to dial up Albert Lee......one of the finest folks to EVER pick up the Guitar.!

  • the look on his face at 00:16 onwards is priceless

  • I'd forgotten that thoughtful or impish look ol' Roy would get when he started crankin', man I miss the clean, simple funny of Hee Haw. That, and the crazy great music that would come out of the awful old black and white TV we had until I was about 12.

Yeah, it could be dumb sometimes. So what? It was funny, and I didn't have to defend it.

  • @elhigh Everybody who grew up back then remembers Hee Haw. It was so funny, but had some amazing talent, too.

  • Roy Clark is a P.I.M.P.

  • How people pick Chet Atkins over Roy Clark, I do not know, But from what I've seen on Youtube, which hasn't been a whole lot, Roy's the most impressive between the two to me. I don't know how to rate guitar players, but Roy is Phenominal to me.

  • Did I say Yee-haw? I must have been thinking of the Simpsons version of Hee-Haw called Ya-Hoo. That, and I also had about 12 beers in me when I made that comment.

  • I love Roy Clark! VERY talented musician!

  • This is obviously a hee-haw set and why he was making these faces. Hee-haw was a special show that showcased some serious music.

  • The more I see these Roy Clark Yee-Haw vids the more I realize he was the reason I started to play guitar. Because I used to watch this show with my grandparents every sunday night and always loved roy's guitar and banjo playing.

Later, I got into metal and always assumed it was Eddie or Angus that inspired me to pick up the guitar....NOPE, it was Roy.

  • He should be in the top 5 Guitarists of all time including Rock and Roll. From what I've seen he's one of the most impressive guitar players I've ever seen, even more impressive than Eric Clapton and Chet Atkins, maybe not better, but just as good. I've never seen Eric Clapton pick like that. Could you imagine if Roy was a R & R or Blues guitarist.

  • Clapton is great..but is over-rated.His style, blues,is much easier to play than the country style.Roy,im sure could easily do what Clapton does...but not in the reverse.

  • Maybe Steve Gaines ,Ronnie said that ,Ithink he was correct

  • I've loved Roy Clark for years and have always thought him to be very underated as a guitarist. He's as good as they come. One of the best. Peace.

  • One of the very few players that no matter how it was going always looked like he was having a ball. He was not only good but enjoyed it.

  • I enjoy all kinds of music. Roy Clark is truely a master guitar player. Even if you don't like that style of music , you have to appreciate what you just saw, and heard. I'm sure it took him many years of practice. Roy is a "MASTER" !

  • he is so fucking awesome he looks benny hill and the guy just shreds it.

  • roy boy is like the best, man even back when ritchie blackmore and alvin lee were gunnin' for the title of fastest guitar alive, roy could have 'em for breakfast, man.

  • How in the hell can 2 people dislike this? This is what you call pure talent!

  • please dont call me an idiot, what tuning is this in?

    +

  • That was my wife in the blue

  • Joe Pass is twice faster

  • Wow!...what a great performance!

  • Every time the conversation about, "Best guitar players of all time" comes up, someone always tries to say "he's ok but he's not that good.. And I have to ask them if they've ever actually heard him play? Are you kidding me? He's one of the best ever and has always been my favorite country shredder..!!

  • he looks like he has to poop

  • @ironworker511 I would too if I was playin that fast!

  • benny hill brother

  • holy 70"'s love the pig tail cord and of course Roys beaming tallent

  • The man has always been amazing. Watched this show every week loved it.

  • I have read many comments here, comparing Roy to other musicians. That is just plain nonsense. Roy Clark is Roy Clark, and he has MASTERED being Roy Clark!!! The man can play any instrument with a string better than the most well practiced musicians can play ONE instrument. If you were to string up a garbage can, or a toilet seat, Roy could figure out how to make sound come out of it! The man is a master of his craft, and does not need to be compared to anyone else.

  • @KLUNKET AMEN! I do concerts for a living, and have for many years. NO ONE can play like this. NOBODY.

  • @KLUNKET amen

  • not the best he's done.

  • ............. speechless

  • I like this guy, great player.

  • Roy was pretty damn good. Used to love to listen to him, Chet Atkins, and Merle Travis. Then I discovered Tommy Emmanuel. Don't know whay it took me so long. But there's no taking anything away from these greats. Groundbreakers they were.

  • Hee Haw's attempt at humor/ the pigs....fail

    Roy....epic win

  • Nice job, keep it up. Brandon Ja'rod new release due Dec. 2010, Awesome!

  • @wraithster I noticed that you used the word ( WAS ) ! You said he WAS the best ! I very much hope i'm not wrong , but i'm pretty sure he's still with us ! THAT ! will be a sad day when we lose him !!

  • @dionreedsamurai lol about the duke boys being chased

  • Roy Clark and dancing pigs.

    Now THAT'S entertainment!

  • Why do you idiots feel you have to compare musicians? This isn't a competition....Roy Clark is amazing! Yngvie, in doing what he does, is amazing! I've been playing for almost 40 years - anyone who can master an instrument - regardless of the style of music - has spent more hours mastering their craft then you can imagine. Why would are you being so critical?

  • @Geetar48 Thumbs Up!

  • @Geetar48 because they have nothing better to do and their moms don't hug them.

  • @Geetar48 That, my friend, was well said. Man I'm a big Yngwie honk and love the new guitarists but why in the heck would I compare them to Roy. Roy was a monstor. Don't mess with Roy.

  • @Geetar48 Roy is the best I've ever heard

  • @Geetar48 I basically agree with you, excep tyou said Roy mastered "an instrument". He is arguably the best on every instrument he's ever appeared playing. That's amazing truly.

  • Talent + Hard Work + Charisma = This

  • More pigs!!!! MORE PIGS!!!!

  • Someone had the grapes to say to me the other day that Santana is better than Roy. Putz. Santana is great, yeah...at his style. Roy is unbelievable in that style, as well as every other. Absolutely wouldn't be surprised to see a clip of him playing with Guns n Roses

  • @DingoMonkey true...take a look at that Santanna video from Woodstock -a bit sloppy when compared to something like this

  • Wow!!! Then wait till he gets pickin'! Fantastic!

  • Great pickin' by Roy! Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith wrote this song!

  • Whats with the dancing pigs haha

  • @Rowan6969 Maybe it's a Valleydale commercial?

  • I've watched several videos of him...DAMN he's fast

  • I love that lil smirk he has on his face lol

  • Nobody but ol' Roy could make a Gretch sound that awesome...thanks for this memorable upload.

  • @stupullen Take another look, my friend. That's a Gibson he's playing. Later, he did play a Gretsch Super Axe, briefly. Here, however, it's a Gibson.

  • @tyoonz my bad ,I really could not tell the difference...thanks for the update.

  • @stupullen No problem! What is important is that you appreciate the artistry, regardless of the brand name on the guitar! Clearly, you have a superb ear for music! Roy is simply amazing, isn't he?

  • Roy Clark. The king of Guitar players!

  • AMAZING!!!

  • How does this not have more views. Damn shame.

  • Dammit I wish I could find this to put on the ol' iPod!

  • Comment removed

  • i had no earthly clue that Mr. Roy Clark was classically trained....not a clue....i am so glad i found these videos...thank you Mr. Clark. :-)

  • Every time I watch this....I look over at my guitar and think, "Can my guitar make those sounds?"..probably not. He's amazing.

  • Jeez....I've watched this about 20 times. Still blown away. Never gets old

  • He looks like Benny Hill when he makes that face...

  • them hillbillys sure like pigs!

  • bad acid trip for sure!

  • got tabs?

  • Can't figure why I didn't appreciate Hee haw when I was growing up...

  • @Demeralda probably because of all the charmingly hokey comedy. heh But the music can't be beat. I do believe that Roy is the most talented guitar god I can think of. Knopfler, Slash, Clapton...they're all terrific, but Roy's just in a whole other universe with his gift

  • @Demeralda Because you were 4 and still shitting yerself.

  • @mikedavis5671 What the hell was this for? She was saying that she now appreciates Hee Haw. What's with the childish insults?

  • I love the face he makes when he's playing! it shows he's focused, but really enjoying himself!

  • Slash Jimi and jimmy eddy van couldn't get a drop on this man on their best day

  • @crosshairs305

Slash and Jimmy and Eddie RESPECT this guy. Just because they don't play that style commercially, they respect the ability. Eddie's & Alex's dad played clarinet, Eddie & Alex started on a piano toward classical music.

So post YOUR stuff and let's if you can cut Roy's head.

  • @crosshairs305 Kenny Wayne Shepherd has a shot, best he could do is tie though.

  • hot damn...

  • lol- those words about sum up exactly the way I felt when I first saw this video- I think I may have said "HOLY SHIT"!! He really is a super amazingly talented man.

  • This Man will probably NEVER recieve the acclaim or accolades or credit that he rightfully deserves and definitely has long since earned.

Saw a video once of him and Chet on stage.

Roy commented to the audience that as a young boy,he dreamed of the day that he could

be"On-Stage"with the Great Chet Atkins, and while in the middle of a song, look over and say,"Take it Chet".Which, of course,Roy proceeded to do in the middle of his next performance. If Roy could"Shred"a neck,Chet could melt it down

  • who let those pigs on the stage?

  • Loved him growing up..he was a real mean machine on the banjo.

  • yup i wish i could play like him

  • Still IS. Present tense.

  • faster !! faster ! faster !! so what ? at leaST ROY DOES IT WITH HUMOUR.

  • the song is called Black Saphire. he recorded that song back in the late 60s

  • those pigs r sexah

  • I have seen Roy live 2 times, and each time he has played what I thought to be a Russian song. Does anyone know what it is. Not Somewhere my love . Please. Thanks

  • Would it be "Moscow Nights"?

  • Its a Gibson Byrdland.

  • Wow that is one thin neck on the Guitar. Is that an EPI?

  • ALL I CAN SAY IS "DAMN" Greatst guitarist ever.

  • Yup. Underrated...

  • ... OG

  • I saw him live about 8 years ago (Can't remember) he must have been in his late 60's and he was just as good as he is here!! No...I don't think he ever dropped a note!!

Anyone who grew up watching Hee Haw gets a great flash back.

    Great post!!! Thanks!

  • MacPro8CoreMan, I couldn't agree more. This is fantastic. He can stand with any guitar player, Clapton Hendrix or anyone else.

  • @thecoffeetrader Hendrix. Nah.

  • did this man EVER drop a note?

  • Even saw Randy missfret a time or two but never saw roy yet...Im looking;-)

  • I am so desperately sorry that I can only give Roy Clark 5 Stars! Roy is the man!

  • Roy is one of the greatest musicians in history. He can play many instruments. When the mags come out with their Greatest Guitarist lists; I always think to myself "where's Roy"...

  • ....and, where's Chet? I'm with you my friend. The ONLY responce I can come up with is that whomever put's those "List's" together, NEVER actually picked up and attempted to play this Instrument.

  • GOOD GOD!!

  • Ha! Yngwie's got nothing on Roy. Smoke em roy!

  • hallelujah, brother! ive always thought the same thing. roy makes me wanna burn by gitar.

i remember him doin some seriously funky stuff on the beverly hillbillies as "cousin roy"
