  • I hope you are resting in heaven dear Patrick! You were a wonderful human being and I hope you rest in peace next to God, where you actually belong! You had a soul of iron!! My best wishes!

  • another of my favorite scenes, when orry kicks his azz..............go baby go

  • Hehe, you can see Justin falling onto a matress...

  • this fight could have been so much better. he should have grabbed the whip and it him a few tlmes

  • he ended up like he killed maum sally

  • Justin's plantation is Greenwood Plantation in Louisiana. Oddly enough, the Hazzard home in Pennsylvania is actually a Charleston, SC house..

  • "Mont Royal" is Boone Hall Plantation. But does anyone know where this was shot at? I would like to see both sites for filming.

  • @AnalMart Greenwood plantation in Louisiana. The interiors of Mont Royal are also not far away from there. Stanton Hall in Natchez, Mississippi.

  • you can tell when justin falls or...who ever the stuntman was out of the window...they fall on a fat matt..it poofs up on the sides.. lol

  • R.I.P. Patrick Swayze & David Carradine :-(

  • My prince charming....

    *blury eyes*

  • This was one of my favorite scenes from childhood, when Orry slays the dragon and rescues the princess. RIP to Patrick Swayze and David Kerradine.

  • mine too xD

  • kung foo got his ass kicked

  • Jean Simmons R.I.P

  • Orry has a bad leg and he still kicks Justin's butt! :)

  • Bastardo!!!

    R.I.P

    I love you Patrick.

  • T_T

  • It's very sad that both men are no longer with us.

  • Goodbye General Orry Main, RIP

  • I hate to dis such a quality show, but there are some glaring technical issues concerning Justin's death. 1: Orry's punch was not powerful enough to knock Justin through the window. 2: You can actually see the cushion that David Carradine lands on. LOL.

  • hhahaha that was exactly the same thing I was thinking xD.

    + the swords bend xD.

  • @Sotnas About point 2: this is not visible on the DVD. They probably fixed it. :p

  • ain't no way one man, especially with a bum leg like orry's gonna come up on a guy's land, kick the stuff outta his private army and literally send him down, even if it's pat swayze. orry would've been picked off in seconds.

  • except for lonesome dove, this is my favorite mini series.

  • i didnt catch the eye till now either...did notice carradine landing on a air pad tho, weeeeeeeeee

  • At the 1:30 mark, the scar is on Justin's right eye instead of his left. How did they make a mistake that big?

  • Without a doubt one of my favourite part of the entire series, as you see Orry kick Justin arse, but you would have thought it would have been a longer fight seen, also Orry had a gun in is hand whil Justin had his whip, why didn't Orry just shot him to save getting injured. Imagine if Justin had won the fight what would life be for Madaline be like if Justin lived.

  • a john jakes story never ends with a simple wetting-up of the bad guy. it has to be hand-to-hand. but that's how not to do a rescue op. rather, bring some troops, general. justin's henchmen should've busted a cap in orry's arse at the first sight if justin had warned him he was coming. but justin's "colonel"rank was political and honorary. orry earned his stars.

with all those rebs killing eachother over silly matters of honor like this, no wonder the south lost the first civil war.

  • nice tits...

  • he he, north and south remains fun stuff

  • I can´t help but I don´t like Madeline so much... I mean, of course she was an angel, of course she was beautiful, etc... but she was so passive! always a victim. always being rescued... I prefer the more fervent characters

  • had you stuck around, you'd've seen Madeline provide relief for the poor, expending everything she had and more to feed, clothe and shelter refugees. that takes as much character as a sword fight or a gun battle. She showed compassion and courage going into the bottoms by herself to do those good deeds.

only white guys fight in john jakes' stories

  • I just noticed that when Justin falls, you can see the mat he landed on just slightly. Kinda spoils the illusion but I'm sure the producers weren't too concerned about repeat viewings of this show at the time.

  • Good eyes, never would have caught that!

  • This was my favorite part of Book II when I saw it as a kid. When Justin bites the dust, I was so glad because he had been such a rotten and evil person not only to Madeline, but to everyone in general. David Carradine played such a good bad guy I think.

  • goorry go

  • Diese Szene liebe ich.Endlich befreit Orry seine Geliebte Madleine.I Love this Film.

  • Also in the book, Justin gets killed by a stray bullet from his own militia, Orry gets killed in Petersburg in 1864, George works at the Ordnance Dept. interviewing inventors before getting a transfer to repair railroads. Billy sticks with the engineers and is the one imprisoned. I believe the producers wanted to popularise the story a bit and make it less expensive as when they cut the train accident of the Hazards out of Book I which I think would have deepened the Hazards' power struggle.

  • But what happens then with brett and billy in the book if he's imprisoned?

Also they wanted the hero to stay alive, thats one of the reasons orry survived.

Im glad they didnt stay too truthful :) but on the other hand theres is the series heaven and hell, never seen it and never will, pretending that it doesnt exist :).

  • They met in the army camp once but after that they only met after Bi was rescued. On his way to rejoin his unit in disguise he was shot by his own men but recovered in a Union field hospital. And I think from there he was transferred to Lehigh Station to Brett.

I found the worst part of the book the hints from Jakes that Brett had become infatuated with A-A Scipio Brown who helped run the orphanage near Belv. J moralized the black/white relationship using Brett and Billy too strongly I think.

  • Oh ok.. would love to read the books as well, but it seems like its not all happy endings.. And i dont like the idea that he kinda broke things between brett n billy either if i understood u correctly..

    Thanks for the answer!!!

  • You're welcome :) Well, he did not exactly break things, there's only Brett's guilty reflection of having had feelings for Brown in Billy's absence. It felt artificial to me.

There's also towards the end of the third book a liaison between George and some European woman (a countess IIRC), very briefly described though :) But, Con was already long dead and Geo left for Europe to recover in the book. It's a pity being there, he's very seldom a POV.

The books are more somber and gritty.

  • That sounded a bit better :D between brett and billy I mean.. thanks again for explaining.. I'll see if i read the books or if i just decide to only enjoy the series instead :)

  • I think in Book 2, they should have stayed a lot closer to the novel "Love and War" (my favourite book in the trilogy). In it, Brett's in Lehigh Station the whole time, we see a lot more George and Constance and their relationship, Constance starts an orphanage for slave children, and Madeline does not run away. In addition, James Huntoon is killed by Lamar Powell, Ashton's lover, in an attempt to retrieve a gold treasure in Santa Fe with which to establish a new Confederacy.

  • At 1.45 when Justin falls out of the window and lands you can see the air bag lol.

  • I didn't even catch that the first time!

  • Kick his ass Orry!!!!!

  • Interestingly Patrick Dwayze is of african genes in this UNTRUTHFUL MOVIE.

  • Umm...your mistaken, it's Madeline that's of african descent, not Orry.

  • Yes, and the movie is "fiction" it never claimed to be true.

  • exactly what I was thinking :)

  • finally this bastard justin dies------

  • thanks for adding,.i totally love this movie..keep them coming
