Saban's version keapt the sword, they just had it fire a laser ball that destroys monsters, instead of just thrusting it through the monster like in Toei's original.

That said, nicely done intro for this review. I'm with you once again on the coolness of the design and the simplicity being a benefit. I can't believe anyone looks at either design and finds them boring.
