  • now i know where Les Claypool of primus got his style from.

  • FAQ. I have died and gone to HEAVEN!!! YAAAAAA!!!!!

  • Only Larry can slap.

  • for some reason he reminds me of David Byrne in this. I guess its the outfit

  • Whoever thinks the bass player is the musical non-entity who stands at the back of the stage like a statue just to make up the number.......well watch this guy in action and think again. Gimme the bass over the electric any day of any week of any year. Amazing sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Playing bass like that = very hard

Playing bass like that + singing = insanely difficult

Playing bass like that + singing while sporting a Super Troopers mustache = WINNING!

  • whats the song at 2.50 min?

  • what is the song at 7:14 it's so good and I want to learn it

  • @Dragonshouter

It sounds like "Phantom Of The Opera" He is just playing the vocal melody.

  • @brooklyn227 OK, thanks, I'll see if I can find the music for it, but I do want a fuzz pedal!

  • @Dragonshouter You can find the tab for that part on ultimate guitar!

  • I'm So luvin this!....an I'm a Rock drummer, Ole Skool. I jus been Funkified!!!!!

  • @jwabbit777 Been diggin Larry for years. He is the originator of slap. There are others maybe faster like Stan and Wooten but LG is bad to the bone. HUGE sound. Great bass. Alembics and Warwicks have much more tinny sounds and are excellent basses, but this one has bass balls. My 40 yr old P bass sounds this good, I just wish I had his rig to run thru. If your near Dallas maybe we can jam. I'm Ole skool rock too but love to get funky.

  • yeah my dad pirated this vid for me, and in the vid larry says that his bass was custom made from japan, sick choice :)

  • I flagged this video as inappropriate.. Its so fucken sick.. lol This guy is awesome

  • a bad ass MOFO. you should be touring with LOUIS JOHNSON. so, get your butt back out there.

  • Larry.. I LOOOOOVE YOUUUU!!

  • Comment removed

  • Louis Johnson says he invented slap independently. I believe it. It sounds real different from this.

  • Slap bassists everywhere: our God, our creator, hath spoken!

  • mr graham....ty for helping my son realize its not how fast you slap and pluck ....but how you feel the groove

  • The Grandmaster of Funky Bass! Mr. Larry Graham!

  • 20 people broke their thumbnail while trying to play like Him.

  • @doctor345678 nevermind its not a fender its a moon bass

  • @doctor345678 do you know what year it is? i havent seen one with the neck pickup slanted like that and with the neck and body matching paint jobs might it be a custom one?

  • Love that last part. It was fucking awesome!

  • ...and on top, he is also singing !!!

  • Fuuuuuuuuuuuuunkay!

  • anyone know what kind of bass this is he is playing?

  • @JackGannPlaysBass Fender Jazz Bass.

  • @doctor345678 Nope. He's playing an all-white "Moon" brand bass (Made in Japan) with Bartolini pickups in this video. He named that bass "Moonshine." He used to play Fender Jazz in the 1970s.

  • Jimmy on bass

  • 1000th comment. Oh yeah!

  • playing bass and singing like a boss

  • for all who dont know this man created the slap bass technique...none other. if you think it was that guy over there or that one down here your wrong. it is him. the one and only LARRY GRAHAM....

  • I know the song at 7:15 is a Rachimaninoff song, but what piece is it? i reall want to learn it by listening to the original!

  • @EythanBassify phantom of the opera

  • I dont see what you guys see here. Please enlighten me xD

  • @BboySound123

Sorry man, If you don't see it and feel it I doubt anyone can "enlighten "you

  • When the Bass makes you tell it twice it's time to slap it... His bass will never learn or listen... He is the MAN... Larry has got some real deal big time skills... "I like that"...

  • This man sent all the bass players back to school. There are very few bass players regardless of genre who don't slap once in a while.

  • I guess it helps if your right thumb is as big as a carrot. He is smokin' great.

  • awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

  • @adhaskdjhaskjda yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • This is the only god who lives

  • Gold Strings FTW!

  • OMG, this man was my GOD.... where I come from, the funk belong to anyone that respected it in there everyday life. Thank You Larry Graham and many others like you.

  • you know you're doing really well if you're black and everything you own is white

  • @mramph Lmao. Yo, how the hell did you even think of that. Funny as hell, and even seems somewhat true.

  • @mramph Hahaha!!! That's funny but... Truly it's the other way around! If you are black and everythinb you own is white.. you are definitely A SLAVE!!

  • @mramph including your drummer

  • what song starts at 2:52?

  • Comment removed

  • Drakes uncle

  • DAMN!!!

  • To much funky on his hands!

  • wow !!!!

  • Awesome!

  • I expect him to start danceing like mad throught out the video. like legit back flips. he could probably manage it to. This is also why no self respecting basist uses a pic.

  • Flea, meet your maker

  • This man is cocaine crazy

  • WAN, THOO , THREEEE ...JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY.

  • Les claypool ! Take a lesson

  • Love it , I like this

  • holy this guy doesnt stop impressing me

  • I don't give a damn if Master Graham is Drake's uncle!

  • The Rachmaninoff bit he puts in at 7:16 is mind blowing.

  • @remarkerble yea he has got a cool pedal that makes that sick sound check out part 3 for the name of it

  • Wow. Victor wooten bows down to him!

  • BRILLIANT BASSIST!

  • Drake´s Uncle!

  • @misterbanks7

    We don't give a damn!

  • @misterbanks7 Personally I don't think Aubrey does the name justice

  • Dislikes??

  • master!"

  • this guy is a beast, i can see where les claypool got some of his inspiration!! hell yeah, this is awesome shit!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Larry Graham needs to play with Electric Wizard

  • The Bass version of Jimi Hendrix.

  • I never expected a heavy metal treatment of the Phantom Of the Opera theme to close out the slapping. Freakish hands like Hendrix. It looks like he could use a few more strings but then it wouldn't sound like such classic FUNK.

  • If this guy fucks the same way he thumps that bass....then his wife/girlfriend is in big trouble.

  • The last fragment comes from A Phantom of the Opera, but a bit slower compared original.

  • The original 4 string slap King

  • 9:17 of the funkiest shit I've ever heard!

  • Yawn.

  • This is just jawdropping.

  • The creator, the source, the Original.

  • @CoolKodiak 110% agree.

  • this is fucking crazy shit i need to learn

  • What a hero!

  • never played a guitar before in my life.......NOW I WANT ONE

  • does anyone else hear claypool in this?

  • @jumpoffroof i've heard him in claypool

  • circa?

  • these two top comments are legendary

  • Do anyone here know what the name of the song starting 5.49????????

  • @dudeavon the song starting off @ 5:49 is "Got To Get To It To Get Through It" from the "Release Yourself" album.

  • @jimy0803 Thanks!!!

  • The best tutorial on how to remove women's underwear on the internet.

  • I FEEL POWERFUL!

  • i would murder someone for this sound

  • Good god man

  • This is taken from his intructional video filmed in Japan and entitled SUPER SLAPPING BASS; Not sure though that it's still in print. The whole video is not really 'instructional' as Larry almost never stops and keeps funking you up LOOL!

  • now back to "hey that black must be doing well because everything he owns is white"

  • i googled "mojo, definition" and this came up

  • You can see where Les Claypool gets some of his ideas. Anyone who wants to play like Les should also have a good look at this guy's material!

  • Damn, both playing and singing, I'm jealous!! XD

  • Larry,s the baddis of all time in my book!

  • Comment removed

  • Just awesome.

  • What song does he start playing at 3:46?

    Been searching for a while

  • @PorkSodaBaby i believe in you from the "release yourself" album...

  • Comment removed

  • What kind of bass is this? :D

  • larry is the first and the best to ever slap the bass

  • Holy shit does he have huge hands!

  • WHITE PEOPLE BREAK UP JUST TO MAKE UP

  • Far as I can tell, Larry invented the slap bass technique. Been copied, never equalled (OK, Victor Wooten comes real close), but Victor should have been a guitar player, Larry was always pure bass.

  • @EllJayAitch you cant compare larry to victor both are awesome and have unique styles and yea larry invented it

  • OMG!!! IT'S HARD TO FIND ANYTHING THIS GOOD UNLESS IT'S JAMES BROWN!! WHAT A PERFORMANCE!! TEARS OF JOY!!

  • thank you Larry!!!

    You live forever.

  • What is the name of song that starts @5.50??

  • i watch this video just for 5:42

  • that is one of those good slow grooves that when u hear it u gotta make a mean ugly ass face when u pounding that bass, lol :p

  • Monster bass! Thanks for sharing this great video jam.

  • A God.

The rest of us, mere mortal's who tremble in his presence.

Go forth now and spread his name amoungst your musical brethren!

  • whats the name of the song that starts at 5.50??? Deadly slapping!

  • probably the only slapper that doesn't need a band...which is sorta the purpose of slapping in the first place. go figure

  • sonic ripped off larry graham!

  • u rock

  • Comment removed

  • now theres a man with funk running through his veins...unbelievable =)

  • The all father of slap bass!

  • OG triple OG

  • What is the name of the songs?

  • Exceptional stuff.

    He oozes music

  • slappa da bass mon

  • Not only does Larry full on shred, but the drummer also really seems to know what the fuck he's doing.

  • epic indeed! awesome

  • that part at around 7 minutes is such a fucking doom lick. That could be an old song by while heaven wept or something. So fucking epic.

  • @sniperkneupper I SWEAR that is Zeppelin mixed with some freestyle! But that is dope shit!!!

  • I SWEAR that is Zeppelin! He's freestylin' a bit, but that's Zepp!

  • @sniperkneupper that's phantom of the the opera

  • @ErinShelbybun I'm just saying that the way he plays it is very doom metal sounding and heavy.

  • SLAPPA DA BASS MAN!

  • While acoustic bass players have always - particularly jazz musicians - slapped their bass I do not think Larry had this in mind. See Part 3. His slapping and thumping served as a replacement for lacking a drummer. He also thought that playing bass would only be a temporary thing for he was going to go back to playing lead guitar, hence the position. As it has been said, necessity is the mother of innovation/invention.

  • I only watch it for the "1, 2, 3 yeaahhh!!" and also for the rest.

  • its Black Les Claypool!

  • @KillaTaco94 : The first time I heard Primus play in the late 80's, Les Claypool was covering Larry Graham songs that were 10 to 15 years old by that time. You should get your facts straight before trying to be funny, unless you really enjoy showing your ignorance.

  • @fnkdlc well maybe i just learned of this dude and was comparing two great musicians... oh unless you enjoy showing your anti-socialism. asshole

  • @KillaTaco94 No no no no no no no no no no no no no no. Les Claypool is the white Larry Graham.

  • JAJAJAJA YOU ARE THE MEN LARRY! THENKS FOR YOU TALENT MEN...

  • You can learn the slap style, but no one can teach you how to play as even as that, while remaining attack focused :-) The even-ness in his slow tempo (< 90 bpm) funk grooves, is amazing. He be one bad-ass, sub-dividing and rhythm super-imposing, dude!

  • I only watch it for the ' 1, 2, 3. Yeeeeee!'

  • Actually, slap bass was invented by acoustic bass players trying to get more volume from an upright back before amplifiers (or electric bass) were invented. Larry was the first guy that figured out how kick-ass it sounded on electric bass and BOOM, funk was born.

  • my man is CLOWNING!!! "eeeeyyeaaaaaaaahhhhhh"!!!!! #EPIC

  • Pai do Slaping!
