That's a triplet I think - the "extra beat" between the main strokes? I play the main strokes up and down with the bottom of the beater but then allow the top of the beater to hit the drum momentarily after the main down stroke, it happens naturally with a flick of the wrist and if the top end is heavy enough it will swing over anyway.
I've improved a bit since making this video but haven't really done a lot with it I regret.
I think I need a bit more practice to manage that! :)

I can do the strokes that you are doing, the down down up down up, but what are the strokes that you are doing in the middle?
