  • Great! All we need now is a Hurricane to test this shit!

  • i dont think itll last or be durable enough for the weather

  • I love this idea. I'm just wondering about off gassing? Polyurethane is pretty toxic. Has the air inside been tested after its cured up?

  • NO mask NO googles ?????

  • It's funny the guy has a protective suit on and no mask lol what a smart move

  • How much per square foot for a typical wooden or brick home, and how much for this?

  • @trailkeeper In todays market it is hard to say what priciing is on new construction nowadays. Building a concrete shell in a week or less should give you some idea has to how less expensive a stucture is to build though. Additionally a monolithic concrete structure has no air leaks making these structures indestructible and super energy efficient

  • The room climate is for sure great. Sealed to outside world, no air or water-wapor exchange. Great for using it as a coffin for a pharao.

  • My only problem with this is that it looks like a Tornado etc. could lift the thing right off the ground the way it's small and stuck up out of the ground. In my view, you should build the thing half in the ground, and more angled.

  • @leeuniverse If you think a tornado will lift this structure you need to read up on monolithic concrete construction. This dome along with the concrete foundation would have to lifted in one piece!

  • @buck3647 Well, I know Tornado's can take out concrete buildings, and yes I do know that this particular design can't compare to the other stuff, that it will be much stronger, it's just it seems like there is still a risk. Anyway, no biggy. Just providing a possible even better suggestion. :)

  • A large vat of tar would of been smoother and easier to apply- also would last a lot longer- throw some pretty gravel on it and voila!

  • flinstones

  • I would suggest some kind of ceramic-based material for the coating. Ceramic thermal spray coatings are resistant to erosion and high temperatures (they don't burn). As for cost... I haven't a clue.

  • @Bobbylongmusic Ceramic based coating require very high temp for the cure process? Where do you get your info? Maybe a direct hit on your house from a tactical nuke will complete the bonding process!!!! Almost all ceramic coatings that I know of are applied using a flame spray process using a hydrogen/oxygen flame at approx 3000F. Did I miss something in the industry? Probably kinda like the enviro wacko's cold fusion they taunt every now and again.

  • @sakoshooter48 The cermic coating I think he's talking about isn't really ceramic. It does not require painting though. Someone tried to scam my mother out of $15k to spary her 2300 sqft house....they used the term ceramic too????

  • @beachnative420 Coating is closed cell 3lb foam with a silicone sealer sprayed over a synthetic stucco

  • @sakoshooter48 No ceramic coating used on this project only 3lb closed cell foam and synthetic stucco

  • @buck3647 I am aware, I was questioning someone here who posted about ceramic coating.

  • I wonder if the old white wash lime product used 30+ years ago would have made a better coating! Thank you for sharing your video!

  • will it stick to those cars ....i think sooooo

  • Love the shelter (and your responses to comments)!

  • I would much prefer to put an earth cover on it. Even making adobe would be better for covering concrete. Why? Because that foam that's being sprayed on is 1. toxic

    2. will catch fire

    3. create a totally 'black' toxic smoke.

I don't like any urethane products. Sorry...but the structure is primo, in and of itself. Sooooooo, are you gonna put adobe over it now? :)

  • @leahanna412003

You think because you typed 6 lines of words your going to make somebody cover their structure with material that is completely unnecessary? It's already finished. Why the hell do you think he's going to put adobe over it NOW??

  • IS THIS NUKE PROOF

  • Foam - - - WHY NOT USE EARTH AND GRASS, EVER SEEN THE TELETUBBIES FFS.

  • Martians advise you to use natural insulators and finishing. There are plenty of alternatives to the toxic foan that is carried away by the wind and left in the surrounding woods to kill off the flora and fauna.

  • So Cool I want one !!!

  • Reason for imperfect foam is that the concrete base was not smooth Error on my part thinking that the 3 inches of foam would cover any uneven concrete now I know.

If I had spent the extra money to have the concrete smooth the foam would have gone on like glass and the need for extra step of lathe and stucco would not have been required. See other videos with the final finish

Have 12 saferooms in Missouri and safedomes in Florida for sale at discounted prices sell these make a commission

  • interesting how many people come into an intellectual battle unarmed. Air formed is inflated, rebar put in place, foam is sprayed..some say poison..hmm must live in conventional houses with fiberglass insulation..fiberglass. interesting. Their R value at best in the walls is maybe r15? The monolithic type..say r 50. Ceilings in a conventional house..best, r30? Monolithic is r 50.

Indestructible? Umm. maybe not. But has survived many tornadoes. the neighbor's didn't fare as well. Do research.

  • Indestructible meaning it will last longer than 500 years

  • @buck3647 Urethane Foam is a very safe material that when applied properly is very good insulation material, perhaps the best. In our lives we are surrounded with the product from car bumpers to mattresses. A wonderful use of Chemistry. I will say however, I have seen better looking foam applications.

  • i highly doubt this is indestructible

  • Perhaps some believe that this dome is all foam? NO this is a concrete building with the foam on the exterior, do people believe that concrete is toxic??

  • Where is all of this talk about toxic materials coming from? What exactly do you folks consider toxic? The microsecond it takes to mix 2 products at the nozzle does not affect the environment and if so very minimal compared to the environmental savings for the end goal of saving energy and reducing the need for fossil fuel. If you make a statement if would be nice to have some docs to back that statement. We could all live much better lives if we were not so resistant to change

  • @buck3647 But considering it only takes a molecule of most materials to change or distort human genes. They could use bio foam.

  • @buck3647 There is also foam based on green technology using water as the blowing agent. Don't want foam to stick to your car? Spray it with the same stuff that the autobody shops use or liquid dish soap.

  • @buck3647 its not about the2min mix is about ppl living in it Concrete everywhere is your ideal for housing+cities?

  • dude i love it! i think it rocks!

  • I agree this thing looks toxic to live in.

  • So as to seal waterproof and insulate FOAM is the way to go. This structure would not be the design for Haiti only the concept DUDE

By the way if your home is not tornado proof it is not Hurricane proof

Homes could be built in Haiti to house a family of 5 for as little as $3000.

    Look for my web site

    safedomes com

Where will you go when the wind blows?

Where will you go when the wind blows?

  • @buck3647

The average family in Haiti could not afford a 3000$ house. Nor would there be spray equipment and trained operators readily available.

The buildings in Haiti were made of concrete, they failed. A more flexible material and a smarter design (like a dome) would have sufficed.

  • seems overkill with the foam dude, and the problem with buildinf a 65k dome in haiti, is maybe 5 people coulkd buy one

  • Nothing toxic here being used. The foam was water based foam. Ugly hmmm guess that is what the 2 pigs said the the third pig when he built his brick home. This dome was eventually going to be the garage

  • not a good idea to be using TOXIC environmentally hazardous materials around trees and where you plan to live. Go back and rethink this,

  • Why would you use PU foam? I can't think of any material which is less bio-friendly...

  • Does anyone care that it is FUGLY as haeck???!!! Who wants to live like a Hobbit?

  • 1:35, bless you.

  • You sound like an idiot. And why would anyone even want this? Its virtually pointless and takes 2 days to set up. Stupid americans...

  • @MrZeroCide how fast do they building houses in the uk? moron.

  • Within 10 seconds you can walk on this material it gets hard fast, not funny for the bird.

Now have a mobile home fully encapsulated with closed cell foam in Ocala it no longer needs a central AC it is COLD

  • I can see a bird landing on the roof while it is still wet. hehehe. Kinda like a weather vane heheh. Poor bird that lands on the urethane when wet hahah.

  • Getting an Xray 4 broken bones can be toxic, geez it blows my mind how some of u have toxic issues on every substance known 2 man. It makes more sense 2 build a dome hm that can w/stand hurricaines, tornados, & fires, as well as most earthquakes than it does 4 u traditional people 2 keep rebuilding reg hms that will just cave in during the next disaster. U use toxic insulation in your hms too so stop being such hypocrites.

  • R values are somewhat misleading. Even though fiberglass batt has an R value it does not eliminate air leaks FOAM does, The combination of Foam with R of 7 per inch and no air leaks bumps the value up to around 15 per inch. This 30 ft dome has 3 inches of closed cell foam over 1,500 sq ft it took 1.5 sets costing $3,500 for material. Now for the cost of foam not only do I have a sealer but also insulation, heat never gets to the concrete

Rent to Own this dome $65,000 half acre on water

  • What is the R value of the urethane foam spray? Also, where do you buy the foam and how much is it? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am going to be building an earth bag home in the very near future and am trying to get my budget figured out. Thank you.

  • I cant believe all the negative comments from treehuggers. I guess only a home built of tofu is acceptable. That is why most of the world ignores them.

  • @jedirifleman Hey you ignorant moron! This stuff is toxic crap and you can call us treehuggers if it gets you laid but you sound like a retard. I work with building natural buildings and we don't make them out of tofu. Strawbales, clay, sand, earth, cow-manure, clay-wattle, wattle and daub etc. there are a lot of techniques that have been working for thousands of years so why buy toxic crap from dirty capitalists??? Give me one good reason before defending poison!

  • @ASonOfMan The design itself is worth investigating. I'm no pro at this sort of building, but I would be interested to see how this design would work using a hemp-lime based product instead of concrete for the form. That should make it stronger than concrete, increase the R-value, greatly reduce the environmental impact and eliminate the off-gasing. The sprayed styrofoam could be skipped altogether and just be finished with the standard stucco finish or experiment with other finishes like sod.

  • @jedirifleman way to discriminate, really proves you are better than those you look down upon. Also if you listen to someone who says something does that mean you will hear it again from another person you just believe will have the same thoughts?

  • We tired trying to contact the Japanese company building the eco foam and they never replied back. I guess with the earthquake now, their business is over.

  • @randasites one would think their business would be booming! All those houses to replace.

  • I will sell you this house at 30% bigger and 20% discount. They are called Martian Tight Turtle Shells Contact me before 7-11-11 boogergerue52@lighthouse period com

  • As long as the foam is protected from the UV rays foam will last forever but the normal lifespan is from 15 to 30 years. Foam blocks that houseboats sit on in Seattle have been in water for over 30 years in some cases, its all in the coating.

  • how long does that foam last?

  • This is called icf construction and is excellent though not as strong as a dome shape but still better than most construction Unfortunately many icf structures still use wood truss roofs NOT Acceptable for an indestructible home. Remember if a home is not tornado proof it is not hurricane proof.

Currently in the process of designing an icf structure using vaulted concrete roof creating a monolithic concrete structure.

  • This crap can't be healthy, can it? Feels extremely unnatural.

  • @ASonOfMan

Not sure what you mean about being healthy? Foam is the future of insulation and waterproofing! Unnatural?

Once foam is applied to a conventional home the home will save 30% on energy the next day I say that is healthy for all of us on this planet.

  • @buck3647 Yeah, but there's a lot of different ways of saving energy. I'm talking about the foam itself. How is it manufactured? Where is it manufactured? Is it safe to breathe in if it is fragmented into small particles? Can it be recycled and if, how much energy does that process use? Waterproof and heat saving is not the only aspects of a material. There are other materials such as foamglas that is extremely good insulation and is completely waterproof and made from recycled glas.

  • @buck3647 You also have the ceramic paint ThermoShield that reflects heat, insulates, has a very high capillary effect and keeps away fungus and is made in a very energy effective process. Together with foamglas this could easily meet the efectiveness of Styrofoam. Also, Styrofoam is a petroleum-based product wich doesn't biodegrade and fills our landfills. If these problems are solved and these questions about it is adressed, I would love to use. But to say it's the future.... I just don't know

  • @buck3647

    Hemp is the future

  • @buck3647 saving energy has almost nothing to do with health! Foam insulation like polyurethane or insulation materials such as polystyrene (EPS & DOW insulations) are ultra toxic materials causing health problems. They hurt the lungs and cause allergic reactions...at least!

I would never live in such a house!

It may me earthquake or tornado resistant, but it is absolutely toxic!

    Certainly not the best choice..

  • @AgnessBass I agree, I rather build Earthships, cob-houses or use straw bales. This IS crap.

  • @AgnessBass

Not sure where you are getting your facts? Perhaps you need to view SprayFoam, com and educate yourself on the numerous foam insulation products out there some use a water base some use soy. In my use the foam in on the exterior of 4 to 6 inches of concrete and several layers of sealer and stucco protection over the exterior foam. If this material was as you say it is I doubt it would be the most growing industry in the country?

  • @buck3647 Yeah, soy is not environmentally friendly either. So perhaps YOU need to read up on the facts. The fact that this CRAP is the most growing industry in the country doesn't mean anything. And concrete stands for 9% of the total CO2-emmissions in the world so you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

  • @ASonOfMan

lol too much sun will kill you, apparently.

  • @TheRecyclandChannel I don't get it???

  • @ASonOfMan

    Hemp is the future

  • Comment removed

  • @ThinkPureTruth ok hobbes lol.

The only offensive shit going on is your intolerance to other peoples opinions. stfu.

  • Perhaps this is why the company that sprayed is no longer in business.

Still setting up my foam trailer and will certainly be more pro active when it comes to safety

  • I like the idea and I believe you can have some success with it but please please please make sure anyone spraying the foam coating is wearing proper respiratory equipment!!!

  • Still have not foamed a mobile home as of yet had to complete the finish on the Inverness Dome first Will begin to foam a mobile home sometime in 2011 Stay Tuned

Thanks to all for your input good and bad I can take it

  • The final finish has been applied to the dome and can be viewed at a video uploaded please browse and see the finished dome with deck.

Will sell this half acre waterfront property in Inverness, Florida possible owner financing asking $100,000. Feedback from Haiti has been that the people do not want to live in a concrete home, I understand but somehow they need to be shown how strong a concrete home can be made to withstand not only hurricanes but also earthquakes.

  • What is the total price for one in NM???

  • Who are these guys doing the spraying? Are they insane or just want to die of cancer?

  • wow, what an ugly dome & a terrible ccf application job. Was this the first time that guy ever sprayed foam?! Hopefully, your Stucco guy is a miracle worker & can smooth out the exterior for you. :(

  • @cresidue

You are absolutely correct but the new approach I plan requires an innovative technique to not only cover foam but make it look cosmetically good at the same time. In the future I plan to spary foam on exteriors of existing homes and mobile homes using cosmetic the techniques learned from this Exterior foam project.

Please check in on the tube periodically to see how the next step in this learning curve project has turned out.

Stone Veneer might be the next application

  • @buck3647 Cool, I will thanks :)

  • @cresidue .....i have to agree

  • @cresidue

Take a look at the finish currently applied currenlty on my updated youtube Florida Dome video

  • @buck3647

What does something like t his cost, for say....about a 1500 square foot house?

  • @MrPatrickHenry Cost for a 1,500 sq ft would be around $75,000 using two 30ft domes

  • Stupid question/idea: How well would it work if after you put the foam on the outside of the concrete, you let it cure, and then you put another thin set of concrete on top of that? This way your polyurethane foam was in the middle of the sandwich so to speak...Would that even work?

  • Because of the flexibility of foam the top layer of concrete would begin to crack and possibly pieces would actually fall off similiar to stucco getting moisture behind it.

Or consider foam an artistic design and live with the fact that it is not a perfect flat manicured surface.

  • With the closed cell foam on the exterior the interior now becomes a closed environment so to speak meaning the temperature inside will remain at a basic level and easier to regulate. This is accomplished by not only the exterior foam but also removing air leaks. Now that the interior does not fluctuate dramtically as with conventional construction the energy drain to regulate the interior temp is greatly reduced. This structure will utilize ductless AC by Mitsibushi

  • @buck3647 you should indicate to your spray mechanic that a respirator should be worn at all times using this product

  • @bigadouch

This specific application used water based foam

  • @buck3647 I am Haitian and I say "No Thank you for your suggestions for obvious reasons."

  • compared to a normal house ... would you say it feel warmer living inside? how is air circulation working in those ?

  • One of the things that makes these domes special is that all of the thermal mass is inside the insulating layer.

  • what a bunch of whiners. Don't mind them buck. This is great. Other than pigs who wants to live in dirt? You people breathe poison just inhaling. Hmm, maybe you should stop doing that.

  • I like the concept ! Great Stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • I think you should've just built the thing how Monolithic prescribes instead of poisoning the environment with the urethane foam. I think it was wasteful and not well thought out!

  • Not sure what your point is? I let Gravity work for me and in Florida foam does not need to be sprayed indoors. Only difference I do not leave a rubber finish over my foam.

Built my first 2 story arcn vaulted monolithic concrete structure in 1985

and shortly completing this 30 foot dome with 30 2 bedroom addition

How many monolithic structures have you built?

What is it with this notion that foam is toxic?

Water is used as the catalyst then it immediately stops off gasing once mixed

  • @buck3647 It's amazing how many freaks on youtube KNOW it all!!! Amazing WOrk!!! The steam car of houses! Fuck the government!

  • @SherrieLeaLaird although I see the dude probably meant well if he's into dome homes of dirt too. But yeah normally I get nothing but haters. STockholm syndrome patients hound my page.

  • @buck3647 My point is that toxic material off gas toxins for decades and are expensive and environmentally devastating to produce & use. Plus, it means more money in the pocket of the oil cartels who are ruining our world. Why support that cycle of ecological destruction & economic disparity & ruin your health to boot? It's a Lose-Lose proposition.

  • why not use papercrete, instead of urathane?

less toxic, and cheaper, w/all the strength and insulation.

  • @fatpius

Actually the foam is water based I should have made note of that.

Nothing is imperable like foam even water based

  • What's the point of using TOXIC, Petroleum Intensive materials to build your house in the age of Peak Oil? Search Cal-Earth and check out their all natural domes made with mainly DIRT and simpler tools. If you can't breathe it, do you really wanna LIVE in it?

    Dirt don't Hurt!

  • i totally agree with you

  • I second this notion

  • @kingofthebrittains yay for cal-earth, truly environmentally safe and healthy living, cheaper, too ;)

  • @kingofthebrittains who wants to hear all the mumbo jumbo bullshit that the "guru" of cal-earth has to shit from his mouth? half of his vids are wasted on preaching. NO THX !!! PASS ~!!!

  • @jedirifleman I'm sorry you feel so "damaged" by someone else's opinions. I'd rather listen to logic & ignore the guys' religious views than live in a house made of toxic goop that puts more money in exxon's pocket. Stryo is made of petroleum which is not only toxic, but going the way of the dodo. Oil prices are going nowhere but up, so this kind of s house will become more & more expensive. Dirt is still free, until the banksters and plutocrats find a way to charge for it.

  • @kingofthebrittains they already charge for it, its called a mortgage !

  • @kingofthebrittains it isn't toxic to breathe after it cures hippie. Secondly, we need to be exploring alternatives to petroleum based plastics such as those derived from soybean, and hemp seed oil. Dirt? Are you serious? Now thats the future. "Hey guys, come check out my dirt house." It's called a berm home. Why would you go to the trouble of constructing a dome home, if you're going to make it out of dirt. That totally defeats the purpose.

  • @stehenallein Can you Prove that is true? No. Why? B/C it's not been tested long term. Like Asbestos, lead, Melamine, and a million other "Safe" products. Dirt is the reason you're here. Dirt is LIFE. The oldest, most time tested structures on Earth are made form earth. There are sod & strawbale houses in the Midwest (Tornado Alley) & cob houses in England that have survived Hundreds of years. Fact check before you spout off &Google "Net Energy" b4 you tout alternative plastics as panaceas.

  • @kingofthebrittains Dome homes built from "toxic" materials can withstand exterem weather conditions. I don't believe that a dirt dome is going to withstand an f5 tornado.

  • @kingofthebrittains

What do you think cement is made of? When the finished product is dry it has no ill effects. The earthbag is a very good way to use lots of labor and low cost but still has a long way to go.

  • @elvieken Cement is made of heated, powdered rock & i know it takes a lot of energy to make, but consider that an earthbag home only uses 5% cement in the earth mix and can be made without cement at all. The reason Cal-Earth uses it is to meet Cali's stringent seismic codes. People have been making adobe w/out cement for millenia, in ancient Egypt for example. Plus, do you KNOW that this stuff is non toxic, or did some industry shill pass that info along? Worse yet, it supports Big Oil.

  • Looks like a great abode! do you have to wear breathing aps to enter it after its built?

There is a process (see YouTube) encorporating foam into concrete which creates comparatively lightweight molded blocks, slabs etc.

    The associated machinery is portable.

Could such foamed concrete be created

from pulverizing the rubble? If so slabs

could be pored and used first as tent and

shelter floors then as building components.

  • My belief is that using the rubble as a mold place rebar and cover pile run steel start mixing mud and covering the grid of steel.

Now once the created vaulted arch has cured the rubble base can be hauled or rubble down to road base

Once the debris has been remove a empty monolithic concrete shell remains that partitions and such are in installed.

This process would cut in half the timeof rebuilding

    My 2 cents

  • A monolithic concrete structure has no bearing walls. The steel cage that the concrete covers will flex and perhaps concrete will break and crack but the steel cage will remain NOT Collapse,

envision an upside down swimming pool .

These structures can be designed in a variety of shapes the dome being the strongest. Germany used reinforced concrete for bunkers at Normandy, they are still there after many attempts to bomb them.

  • Do you think the relief efforts in Haiti will consider monolithic concrete domes or aluminium mobile homes?

  • DOME PIECE FOR HOME PEACE!!WORD!!!

  • i will have my own someday soon! cheers : ]

  • It's kind of like an earth ship. Just cheaper

  • Bless you..... lol
