Overly repeated hand motion! He is allowing his words to flow through his limbs, to express to those of us who "feel" what he says. One doesn't usually see the poet, just reads the words. Rives "overly repeated hand motion" is part of his delivery, and to me makes his poems all the more amazing.

Rives is fluent in ASL. the repeated hand motion is the sign for a flying bird. it's the mocking bird repeating the sounds it learned.
