  • Despite all our discoveries, we still haven't found intelligent beings other than ourselves in this massive universe!

  • dont follow telescopes much so farmi is going to take hubbles title as the big eye when it go off line ?

  • @okuma0kuma: No. Fermi follows up on the Compton Observatory, mainly, though there have been a bunch of others measuring gamma rays. There is not a direct follow-on to Hubble, though the Webb telescope (2011) will do most of the same work it has been doing.

  • thanks

  • very nice...good job dude

  • This guy looks familiar...

  • is this where the tax money is going =S ??

  • let's hope so for our future's sake.

  • like, 0.02% of it, about 50% goes to millitary fnding, i think thsi is more important tbh

  • @striderg3: Yeah, about 1/2 of 1% of it. The federal education budget is about 18 times larger, and that is probably as it should be.

  • That narrator was awesome! Looks a little nerdy but his obvious love and knowledge of the topic is charming.

  • great to listen watch

  • Does it play BlueRay too?

  • It can play crysis with 50 fps on MAX settings.

  • eh?

  • omg black holes? pulsars? xD plz stop

i believe plasma physicists from los alamos will put it right eventually

  • Fermi huh? Sounds interestin. I think its important to stop referring to interstellar nebulous plasmas as "gas" or even "super heated gases" these are PLASMA. Not solid liquids or gasses.

  • I... truly don't think that is of any concern of ours to give experienced scientists lessons in terminology. :-) HOWEVER, you are correct in most part: we ARE living in a plasmatic universe. I suppose it's... freer than living in a liquid one (like Species 8472 does). :-P

N.B. I had a dream about... 1 year ago. I was with my dead father (he died in '03) in outer-space, without any protective suits, but the universe's nebuale were... GREEN. In fact, the entire universe was LIGHT GREEN!Planets 2!

  • willberb's right about plasma not being a "gas" so shut up

  • If you were more mature, you wouldn't have said "so shut up". :-)

  • no i was in a bad mood when writing that comment. didnt mean to shut u up. sorry :)

  • Well, temper-down... :-)

  • no thanks. i prefer to go with the flow

  • Well, *that* is yet another imature answer...

  • and why is that? what's ur criteria of "immaturity" or "maturity"? And how do u define one's age anyway?

  • Quite simple actually: by his or hers replies! :-) For instance, your psychological age is that of 13.

  • and how do u know that? x)

plz be more specific about how u analyze one's reply and correlate it with one's psychological age? thanks

  • made me laugh but that is about it

  • My 2 centes: Soome of the gas is heated, and some is not. If it is hot enough to ionize, then, indeed, it is a plasma. If not it is a gas, or perhaps even dust. Of course, the latter aren't as visible, but they are still there, and are by far the lion's share of the non-stellar non-dark mass stuff.

  • Hi,

I'ld like to predict a paradigm shift in cosmology. Fermi detects extreme Electr. Magn. radiation (gamma) EVERYWHERE.

Known for 100+ yrs: 99+% of the universe=plasma.

All new satellites detect E.M.=plasma physics NOT mechanics. Spitzer: IR, Chandra X ray, etc.

    Gravity-only model=EXIT=Big Bang.

Exit scientists' religious (atheist-) suppression of integrity in science?

Ending up in literal darkness: 95% unknown ""matter/energy/??"".

Plz get updated on real science, see my playlists.

  • Like my good friend "doogtoog"says "maybe God created the big bang.DOOGTOOG you RULE!

  • I'm not religious but I do believe in God. Over the years I've learned better than to try to mix science and religion and morality.

Morality tries to answer two questions: Why and Who.

Science tries to ask the other four question, What, When, Where, and most importantly HOW.

Bad things happen when you mix morality and science. This is why I have trouble with religions. They try to answer all 6 questions. As a result religion is doomed to give people faulty science (theology) and morals.

  • Ever heard of Alhazen? Check him out on wikipedia or something. It seems to me that his existence kinda puts to rest the idea that religion and science are necessarily dichotomous. But they're definitely not always trying to answer the same questions, I agree with you there.

  • Wow, it's great to see an astronomy video that is so viewer friendly. The material is very interesting and both the presenter and graphics work are quite good. I wonder, are their Gama-ray emissions from Quasars? could the Fermi eventually be used to study deep-space phenomenon as Hubble has been? I hope so.

  • Nice jumper

  • CHRISTIANITY IN A NUTSHELL...

The belief that a cosmic jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh, and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove and evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

OR you can believe in theory's like Einstiens, were alot of his thoery's can be backed up by scientific proof.

  • good stuff! thanks for posting.

  • really nice lets see if we could quiet these assholes and turn it to see if niburo exist, so people can stop placing crap on youtube.

  • umm. even if such a thing as niburo(sp) existed. Fermi would not be able to see it. It only detects GAMMA radiation.

  • Pls inform me when you find evidence

that ther's no god who created the univeres.

  • there is no evidence that god did NOT create the universe. however, neither is there evidence that he (or she, or it) did.

  • Thanks for replying !

  • Please inform me when you find evidence that there is no Flying Spaghetti Monster or Dexter-the dragon who created the universe.

  • It.s the first time I heared of " Flying Spaghetti Monster or Dexter-the dragon who created the universe. "

Anyway I'll try to inform you whenever...

    Thanks.

  • There is no evidence against it, however there is no evidence for it, therefor it lies outside the realm of science and in the realm of faith. Choose to believe what you will, just don't allow it to influence your consideration of scientific thought.

  • It lies outside the realm of science because science deals with the natural, not supernatural.

  • Give one example of a supernatural event that you've experienced.

  • If directed at me BMW: I have never experienced a supernatural event nor do I believe supernatural events possible.

  • Holy shit!!

    Awesome..

  • the host is awesome.

  • Hopefully we will find something new that we have no idea about. That would be awesome. Good luck Fermi ST!

  • Awesome news. There's nothing more beautiful than science awakening people to new discoveries and higher consciousness.

  • our universe is fantastic and beautiful :)

and i agree.. it becomes a bit annoying when some people see something they dont understand and "explain" it with something absurd like a god :)

  • And the Big Bang Theory is not absurd!!, it is just a theory, or are you willing to believe something that is not even fully understand. What existed before the Big Bang?. There is more evidence that there is a supernatural world and a God than the Theory of Evolution.

  • you really made me smile :) you sound such as stupid like a creationist website :)

first of all. creationists like to missuse the word theory. but different to the regyular use .. theory in science is the highest form of prove you can get.

another thing.. the big bang theory is based on einsteins theory of relativity .. and it fails do describe what happened at the singularity.

newer theorys can explain the universe better. ( loop quantum cosmology for example ) .......

  • what evidence? and why hasn't the scientific community heard of it?

  • and there is no "evidence" for a supernatural world and a god. there is as much evidence for god as there is evidence for fire spitting dragons and pink unicorns. evolution on the other hand has tons of evidence and is also used in genetics , medicine and several other fields of science

  • actually this is where you are mistaken.

evolution is a verry powerfull theory because it have a huge HUGE amount of evidence on one hand and it is testable, repeatable and USED ind many fields of science.

that what tou call "scientists" who reject evolution probably work at the discovery institute and have their Dr. title in theology or something but try to make comments in evolutionary biology. this is laughable and nobody takes it serious because they cant prove anything

  • i would like you to tell us what you talk about if you say that there are doubts about evolution.

i assure you that there are no doubts. and if you dont like the word "theory" .. Evolution is already called FACT by scientists in this field because of the evidence and because they can use evolution.

Even creationists admit that micro evolution happens and happened.

but they fail to see and to understand that macro evolution is micro evolution is a much bigger timescale

  • Faith and Science are mutually exclusive concepts, a so called Scientist who operates based on assumptions (faith is, after all, just belief in an assumption which cannot be proved or disproved) without any scientific or mathematical basis is inherently biased and therefor his or her work cannot be regarded as valid by the scientific community. A scientist can have faith outside of their research, and many do but do not allow it to interfere. Though new theory may replace old faith plays no part

  • @blues260 this is the best comment on this video

  • @blues260 have u seen the whole universe.how can u say it is fantastic and beautiful. first see it completely dear n then comment ....

  • @mukeshmahr are you serious ? i need to see the whole universe to be able to say that it is beautiful? I can look up into the nightsky with nothing but my eyes and honestly say that that what is see is fantastic. i don't need to see everything to appreciate what i can see already.

  • @blues260 no dear i suggested that b`cas when u will be able to see the whole cosmos, that `something absurd god` will be visible as reality to u .until don`t say that absurd pls. lv u...

  • @blues260 Depending on the interpretation of the term "god" it may not be so far fetched after all, as there is indeed an all-penetrating, omni-present, all powerful force connecting everything.

The question is: is it cognitive and aware or merely "something"?

  • Very interesting. Thanks.

  • Great stuff, nice animations, funky music!

  • It is amazing how much g shock does the satellite electronics endure during the launch?!

  • Watching this reminds me of why I love science so much.

  • And there are poor, lamentable human beings who believe in a god. Isn't it a disgrace?

  • I count myself as seriously lucky to have been godless for 43 yrs and counting. It's a comfortable place to dwell.

  • Good for you!
