  • Emmylou Harris' recording of Smither's "Slow Surprise" for "The Horse Whisperer" soundtrack led me here; sorry for being so late to the table.

  • If you liked this, check out 'johnny cash sings tom waits'.

  • Anyone know if he's done any work with T Bone Burnett?

  • I love Chris Smither he is so good and fun to listen to and watch.

  • Along with Tom Rush and others, Chris was one of the great troubadours to have emerged from the New England coffee house circuit in the late 60's - early 70's. His rendition of the Grateful Dead classic, "Friend of the Devil" is the best ever.

  • @Tenth12andMajorLift

Guitar's his blue signature model and he doesn't always dress in black by any means. But by all means, get all his CDs because the guy's awesome.

  • Philosopher with a guitar and a voice

    Guy's terrific.

  • Just heard for the 1st time and have alraedy go his CD on my Xmas list

  • @Radio2Folk

the only cd that does him justice is "live as i'll ever be".

  • I think this is a fantastic song. I did my own version which I have posted. Does Chris Smither ever come to the UK?

  • good seeing him at this years national folk festival in australia :)

  • No matter how many times I watch this performance, I just can't get over how perfect his guitar playing is. It appears he doesn't even have to think about it.

In the first half of the song it looks like he gives a quick wave to someone and he doesn't miss a beat. Maybe it's due to 35 years of playing!

  • @1AnnArborGuy

yes, its a marvellous sight seeing him play aint it? so natural, i love it

  • goingt to see chris at the Strand, Rockland, Maine tonight...i know how good he'll be and hope to get some video to post....love that BLUE GUITAR...and he's a great guy.

  • This is transcendent. Chris Smither is a helluva nice guy to boot. We caught him at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard (Seattle) and it was by far the finest evening I've had in years!

  • Dude, in the truest sense of the word, is just awesome.

  • This is great guitar work...but I'm sure..."I'm Workin' on a Building"!!!!

  • wonderful!

  • Chris is a wonderful artist and a sweetheart of a man.

  • I'm going to see Chris on Aug 27 ...if its Okay I'm going to video it and post it ...Can't wait ....

  • just checked him out because i read about him. glad i did. awesome stuff.

  • I've met and hung out with Chris on a few occasions-- one great night over dinner at a gig and later smoking handrolled Bali Shags, drinking tea and playing darts until the wee hours-- what a perfect gentleman and an eloquently understated genius musician. Chris is a master of his craft deep and true-- warm and honest and with a heart as wide and open as the world. Sing it, Brother!

  • Heard a similar story from buddy of mine who bumped into him in the street. Cool cat.

  • Absolutely flawless performance, lyrics, music, vocals...a poetic scorching of the heart.

  • I bought the CD of the same name on the back of this clip and would recommend anyone else who likes this as much as I do to do the same.

  • Chris Smither lays back in his easy chair and, barely trying, owns. What are the rest of us supposed to do? What a great song. What a great artist.

  • amazing.

  • What a legend!!!

  • cool folk bro

  • yeah this is "Train Home." I just saw him live and this was one of the songs. He's awesome!

  • Been watchin this guy for over 15 years and I still can't believe how few no about him. Best songwriter and one of the best guitarists out there. Love his style. Do NOT miss him if he comes around.

  • BRAAAAAVOOOOOO Chris

  • Great song!!!I will see you at the Falcon Ridge Folk Fest......

  • This song has a GREAT melody.

  • very very under-rated, he should sell out the tweeter center in boston, but instead plays at the lizard lounge which holds about 300 people, but it makes it all that much better!!! keep rockin chris

  • Excellent!!! My favorite song...

  • Smither's the BEST!!!

  • chris smither rocks this songs is great

  • Great song and performance.

"A gospel song for people who aren't really sure" awesome.

  • Name of song is "Train Home", not "Waiting For A Train"

  • First time I ever played in front of a crowd was as a support act for Chris. He was kind and supportive, and a great player. That was at RAF Locking in about 1982.

  • He's awesome. Great presence and sense of humor live. He has a nice touch with his guitar and his lyrics.

  • Love this song! Been listening non stop for one year.

  • Woah this guy rocks!

  • Tight n' right... thanks

  • awesome song!...one question, though: is he wearing tap shoes, with that low mic focused on his feet to give a percussive effect?

  • I've seen him lots of times live, and yes, he uses his feet as percussion. Just ordinary shoes on a wooden board. The guy's a genius!

  • Thanks for postin' ALL of these vids,I sat mesmerized as the crowd cheered at the end of the song. Beyond words, Chris Smither,Whew!

  • one cool cat..honest genuine music and lyric's! tune's make me shiver.

  • great performer and a really nice guy too. love his stuff.

  • Missed him at his concert in Coleraine, Hope he comes back soon

  • This is an absolute belter....met Chris Smither last year; signed a CD..what a nice guy.

  • If anyone has the song "no more love today" please put it up its one of my favorties, thanks.

  • please if you have more videos of Chris Smither please post them!

  • All of the Chris Smither video that I have is posted. This was the entire concert at the 2004 Philadelphia Folk Festival

  • sorry man i posted this comment like a day ago before i started looking around at the rest of your videos.

  • What a great song, singer and guitar player. This man is great...

  • Saw Chris Smither last night in Leicester .... what a performer ... he shows that if you add experience to talent you get real genius. His performance looked effortless ... it was a classic.

  • this guy is a magician,

    always was,

    always will be...

  • a chris smither concert has the ability to turn your awareness of music, songwriting and lyrics inside out... i remember the encore the last time i saw him i felt like he peeled my skull back and poured music inside it, this guy is a genius.

  • Yesterdayevening Chris was playing in Theater de Wegwijzer in Holland

    It was very,very good!!!!

  • wow, wish there were more like him still around.

  • or at least the part where he moves up five frets....

  • has anyone tabbed out this song?

  • Please post it..Anything is better than nothing and people can be "masked out" if they actually just pass the camera lens..I think camera wobble can be addressed in an editing program also.. ....Interesting there is a guy on stage with a video camera ..I do not think Chris's skill as a guitar player is recognised..I transcribed High Heel Sneakers and its simply great to play but a certain skill is required and a Taylor Guitar?? In my case an 815C..

  • Many thanks for this clip...Chris to me is a legend...Have you anymore clips?

  • I have this entire concert, but it is an amateur recording and there are some quality issues.

  • I play guitar and tab Chris's tunes that are not in his books so any vids that can provide fingerboard postioning is invaluable even if poor quality EG The Prime Ticket Concert.

  • Did you cross the audio feeds somehow during capture?? There is another song in the background..

  • Is Lola on the recording?

  • In fact I was going to post that, the audio is good, but there are several places where the camera wandered, or people walked in front of it. If you would like to see it I will post it. It was an excellent performance!
