Like Lance Henriken says, the PS3 is one helluva powerful processor. I have found that some games max out the CPU though: Dragon age origins anyone? Plenty of dropped frames during that one. PCs that cost £700 to build can handle anything that you care to throw at them in terms of graphics and CPU load, but at half the price- the PS3 looks great. And it's in your living room!

i forget what the name of it was, but a few years ago a supercomputer was released that took decades to build, it was later found out that it was the equivalent of 20 ps3 processors..... ps3 ftw :)

PS3 uses a standard Cell processor, while Roadrunner uses over 12 thousand PowerXCell 8i processors (an improved version of Cell which, according to IBM, achieves up to five times the double-precision floating-point performance of the standard Cell processor).

Comparing them both is like comparing a single dual-core processor to a cluster of thousands of quad-core processors.

PS3 only has one main CPU the other cores are tiny processors limited to specific tasks A modern high end PC has 4 main CPUs each faster than the main CPU of the PS3 and far far faster than its SPE cores. Don't let marketing hype deleude you.

CPU(processor) is faster but rember that its SPE's are really only fast at calculations and it only has 1 PPE meaning that it has 1/4 of the switching capibilty as a PC processor which has 4 PPE's so while the Cell can have more FLOPS the PC can have higher BOPS and FLOPS are better for research type calculation but BOPS are good for general perpose calculationso it really depends on what the games will need more now see whos smart?
