It's too bad this episode was way ahead of its time. The wormhole theory that leads to parallel universes explained would've made the story much more plausible to the audiences of the 60's. Instead, it came across to many as an excuse to showcase the preachy political dogma of renegade tele-visionary Roddenberry. It was written off as "weird", "unbelievable", "WTF was he thinking", etc. I enjoyed it though. TOS rules.

The movement towards personal liberty and human freedom began during the darkest days of Papal oppression when the Church reigned supreme and nobody was allowed to question. The Native Americans had the "Great Father" or "Great Spirit", and most of them acted more Christian-like than the Eurpeans who drove them off their native lands.
