  • Know words can express

    what I just heard? Simply

    Delightful!!!

  • One of the greatest voices ever singing such a great song! Too bad that drug abuse claimed such an outstanding talent.

  • The Queen

  • Great singer, great opening, great song, great song length, leaves you wanting to hear it again... :)

  • What a great version of one of greatest songs ever written. Dinah makes every song so personal. Such a great artist.

  • Ms. Washington sings with such emotions in her voice when she sang this.... Boy have I cried a river and I feel her pain everytime I hear this rendition. None better!

  • She has a really great voice.

  • Me gusta más la versión de Yeardley Smith

    watch?v=xEDCSQV3NTE&feature=related

  • Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga voted.

  • Brilliant

  • Love her, thanks for putting this tune down, reminds me of younger days

  • Hey! I'm in Spokane, WA! But I'd still rather hear Dinah.

  • Julie London is better I think. But, I do enjoy this verson also

  • @IlovePOTO3

I know the song by Aerosmith, also a great version!

It is a fantastic song, I think it depends on my mood which one i prefer.

  • bem loco!

  • I love her talking voice!! and of course I also love her Singing voice,,Hell, I love the woman all together!!!! L0L

  • julie London is the best!

  • 1 person is apparently from Spokane, Washington.

  • WoW! great voice!

  • I love the talk in the beginning and all... simply wonderful.

  • these songs are so beautiful and so beautifully sung that the heart opens wide ://

What is wrong today - what could it be soooo utterly wrong

  • just fantastic!

  • The music in the intro is absolutely chilling and beautiful! Talk about goosebumps!!.

  • Dinah you really drove me out of my mind with this song!

  • I love Dinah Washington!! Beautifullllllll voice!!!!!

  • She is the one & only , the queen of the blues with that unforgettable voice and that is Dinah Washington! She died much too young at 39. Her voice will live forever.

  • Great Voice .

  • i luved her speaking voice also

  • the best version of the song by far on my opinion

  • If you like this lady, have a listen to some old stuff by Timi Yuro. She was heavily influenced by Dinah, and the voices are very similar. The only big difference is that Timi was white, but she was an excellent singer and had so much soul in her voicet

  • So smooth, clear, precise and beautiful. What a woman !

  • "...told me love was too plebeian...". Wow!

Anyone care to wager no more than 1 person out of 50 today ever learned what this means? (Scrambling over to dictionary-dot-com doesn't count)

Peripeteian, what's happened to language skill since this ditty was written, and even the spell-check dumbs out on the latter.

  • @Xtubelis -WELL i DID HAVE TO LOOK INTO BOTH DEFINITIONS --THE VIDEO IN LYRICS SEARCH ,FROM WHAT i SAW , DIDN'T EVEN RECOGNIZE EITHER WORD --TOTALLY WIPED RIGHT OVER IT (AS UNRECOGNIZED) i DON'T HEAR /PERIPETIAN BEING USED ..HAS A WHOLE OTHER DEFINITION THAN PLEBIAN-THATS SADLY HILARIOUS ../HAVE TO 'SOUND LIKE' TOTAL DEVERSION FROM ORIGINAL WORD IN LYRICS ? WOW IS RIGHT -- THE VIDEO I SAW - DUBBED THE PART WHERE THIS WORD WAS -- THATS SO WRONG .

  • @Xtubelis The change in language skills has been too gradual to be peripeteian, although I suppose we'd agree that it's unfortunate.

  • Repo Men <3

  • I'd like you to sound like Dinah Washington... hell, yeah

  • Good songs are always too short!

  • perfect!!!

  • The one person who didn't like the video was...deaf.

  • @irishgotee ha ha ha ha ha yeaaaaaaah!!! ha ha ha!!

  • @irishgotee And dumb.

  • @irishgotee you mean the two lol

  • @irishgotee

    ...or Julie London..

  • @mojotooth68 lol

  • 0:23 thats where it starts!

  • No matters what is spoken here, I love this song just the same.

  • DL the audio from this track at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • I love how she asks the producer to sound like other artists like Julie London and Lady Day.

    She has a great voice.

  • "And now you say you love me

Well, just to prove you do

Go on and cry me a river.."

    simply genial!

  • The best version I've found.

  • SORRY MR M BUBLE,BUT THIS IS THE TOPS! XXXXXXXX

  • check out her Lover Man.

  • for me ...the best version

  • I am a sixteen year old hip hop producer and i love this song because I can sample it, chipmunk it, and make an incredible beat while the rest of my audience has no freaking idea of its origins and I can be heralded as a super creative genius! omglol!!11!1! YES!

  • @TheDavizzy Dickhead

  • @TheDavizzy good good i'm glad you can steal another's work and get away with it. be happy. or you could throw a footnote in their or actually say where it's from and be heralded as a super creative well-rounded genius

  • @fishpaste12345 huh? who is stealing another's work? I don't get it...

  • @fishpaste12345 Thank you. Youve made me a better person.

  • I wonder if Erika Badou was inspired by this artist...?

Anyways... I sure am. I think I will cover this song very soon when I get reunited with my precious guitar...

  • my fav version

  • "I could sound like Spokane."

    I grew up in Spokane!!!

  • this version....sings...how i feel...

    cry me a river....yes....hahaaaa

  • I never heard a better voice wow !!!!!

  • Ceck out a white aussie males' version. IAN MOSS. Just another interpretation of a great song.

  • recently included on NovaTunes 1.8 and reviewed by me

  • For me, this is the best female version....the absolute best version ever recorded of this song goes to Sam Cooke....love Dinah by the way!

  • I was born in Spokane, Washington and grew up just a few miles outside of it. Its nice to be recognised for something possitive once in a while. Where did she hear about us, though?

  • My friend sang this at our high school choir concert a few years ago. She wore a beautiful red evening gown which, coupled with her radiant (natural) blonde hair and incredibly talented voice, really made the song work :)

  • @StrawberryFairyShoes I never knew it was written for Pete Kellys Blues...but that explains why Julie London got first dibs on it...her husband at the time, Jack Webb, was the director of that film...thanks for the info. !

  • The first 23 seconds should have been edited, they're mundane and trite. When the music actually starts, it is spellbinding. The song has long been a favourite of mine, and is broad enough to allow each singer to bring their own take to it.

For sheer intensity, however, Marie Knight's searing version has to be heard. The desolation of the lyrics are really brought to life by Marie.

  • @1408alan So nice to see such a great vocabulary...Someone who has the sensibility and intelligence to appreciate, compare & give constructive criticism...The world is not lost...thanks a lot...She has such excellent diction & sucha a melodic voice..I grew up with all of this music when I was a teen during the sixities in Bklyn NY.

  • @magcarril Must've been nice to grow up with real music and real voices instead of songs full with foul language or bashing on keyboards making a tune that sticks in people's minds.Am glad my parents are old so that i was able to see artists like The Rat Pack,Ella,Dinah at work..but also dancers like mr. Fred Asaire.

  • @Jayll1984 I think "good taste" is something we develop...Your parents were loving and sensitive enough to instill this LOVE for Romanticism & Good Music...Your appreciation proves it...Melody, Harmony & Rhythm..the three components of Music...keep it pure...I think 7 wonders of the world are DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI...all music uses these notes to compose songs..no matter what language we speak..La lingua italiana e la lingua della musica.. Ciao, Adios,Bye Bye...Peace Via Music.. VIVA MARIA!

  • @magcarril Thank you so much for your kind comments.

  • @1408alan I've read a lot of English lit in my life & you write as you think, I also do this. I don't speak to many people on any multi-lingual level it's mostly one language at a time..My mind is sharper than my speaking wits..It's kind of deep, hope you understand..I just love intellectual rapport...Ditto thanks..Peace via Music VIVA MARIA!

  • @magcarril Thank you so much for your kind comments. God bless.

  • @magcarril Thank you so much for your kind comments. God bless you.

  • very good in my eyes

  • for some reason the guy's voice at the beginning really creeps me out

  • its so crazy how you cant find ANYONE that has an amazing voice like these women did back then. Now a days everyone sounds alike

  • oh wau oh wau.... oh my gooooddddddd.... great great ... what a song what a voice what a version. timeless......

  • This style of the song reminds me of old spy movies starring Sean Connery as James Bond the wonderful 007

  • @yosef208 EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT!! :D

007: Sorry Dr. Cliche... Not this time..

*Bond catches rope thats tied to helicopter*

    *Rocket Launches*

Dr. Cliche: Nooooo.....!!! Damn you Bond! DAMN YOUUU...!!

    *Building Explodes*

    lol.

  • @yosef208 the reason you feel like this is because if you break the basses of the arpeggios guitar chord progression you will have the classic james bond tune.

as you can hear the end is pretty much the same

  • @yosef208 With Craig Ferguson as Sean Connery. LOL

  • lord...charmful first seconds ;) ..yeah just wan't you to sound like dinah washington :D...damn...she sure does! wonderful version

  • I heard this version in Repo men, i finaly found it, the best

  • The song just wraps around you and sings itself

  • lovely!!!

  • Like always, her voice cuts through to the heart...but those backup singers have got to go!

  • Like always, her voice cuts through to the heart...but those backup singers have got to go!

  • This is really amazing! I love this song. So sorry she died at a young age. Her music will always be legend!

  • wat a werid way to spell diana haha i love how different it is.. i love this song more artist should sing like this.. now everythings all spaceship sounds.. and music like this isnt altered its there real voice its amazing.. its my favorite music to sing..i love her attitude in this song

  • Amazing voice... Dinah Whashington Rocks!

  • Broken heart right now and Dinah is helping me trough. I just feel the way she feels; make him cry a river over me the fool !!!!

  • WOW! The best!

  • wha t a godess

  • I Love You Dinah!!!!

  • I love the "so what?" comment, this song was my grandma's favorite. She sang on two radio stations. In the 30s. She was no Dinah and neither am I but I learned to love this song, and have sung it in my head a thousand times when someone breaks my heart.

  • @swifturtle12 I also love the "so what" in the song..have loved it for years.

  • *this* is a real singer, lady gaga ain't got nothing on this

  • Brilliant version. Amazing.

  • amazing!!! I'm still shaking!!!

  • OMG! This is FANTASTIC!!

  • The most beautiful voice ever heard..she stands by herself.

  • It ' s like a Bond theme song !

  • powerful

  • Better than Ella, Billie, Aretha... wish she was stil with us :-(((((

  • Not Better than Billie, but just as good. Billie's phasing, timing and delivery was just as stunning and beautiful.

  • @saki15300 You're right. She was the best. Hands down.

  • such a fantastic voice.. great version

  • The queen Dinah always a WOW...

  • Just like an amazing star shinning in the twilight... damn the BEST version every sang... tks. for the great clear upload ... from Budapest

  • This lady is so tough in her phrasing and interpretation....it's unreal. There will never be another Dinah.

  • This version beats Ella's version any day - maybe it's the haunting orchestration and the key signature

  • to my dad...who is dying of cancer.....and was never around.....so sad he says sorry now.....

  • better then Julie hey??

  • As my band teacher always used to say, "Cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it!" :D

  • Gives me chills every time I listen to it

  • Soul Music!

  • This song is so full of pain, yet I adore it for the truth of feelings it contains

  • beautiful... you can feel her singing coming from her soul.

  • It is the secret dream of anyone who has been decimated by a broken heart, that one day they will go thru what they did to you.

  • Oh my god, this song is so sadistic but right. "Go on and cry me a river, I'd like to see you cry me a river". Yeah, I'd really like to see him crying for me...

  • @LoveSixties do you know who performed the actual song first because i keep searching and getting a list of names and i cant figure out who did it first???

  • @missmusiclover3 I think the original performer is Elli Fitzgerald...

  • @TheMetavas thank you :)

  • @missmusiclover3 It was first written for Ella Fitzgerald so I imagine she was the first to sing it.

  • @HazeleyesRavenhair kl thank you :)

  • @missmusiclover3 It was first written for Ella Fitzgerald so I imagine she was the first to sing it.

  • @missmusiclover3 This song was originally written for Ella Fitzgerald. However, first release of this recording was by Julie London (1955), Ella did that only in 1961.

  • @LoveSixties me too..nice post

  • @LoveSixties

i've cried her a river for the past two months. i guees what goes around comes around, because lord knows she cried an ocean for me. I'm so sorry Cathelijne. I hope you're happy with him.

  • She and Billie Holiday has the most beautiful phasing, timing and delivery that I've ever heard.

  • This is an amazing record. The best version I think.

  • @rodrigoraulsuarez

    I second that

  • i have ella's version on my ipod

  • great song and amazing voice, never that song was so good, sung by dinah!
