@Desmond3597 The whole series is about the Death of the American Dream - a theme Hunter Thompson tried but failed to capture on paper but which David Simon captured perfectly. Season 2 is about the death of American industry. Manufacturing goes overseas, blue-collar workers lose their jobs and turn to other sources of income - drugs, smuggling, etc. And it's also no coincidence that D'Angelo Barksdale died in this season as well. He was murdered because he was trying to make himself better.

But they used the docs to import the drugs into america. Everything would of went smoothly if it werent for those meddling dead girls!

I'm currently watching all; the seasons for the first time yo. Just waiting to get seasons 4 & 5. I can listen to the season 1 version ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL day. Season 2 was my fav for awhile....and then I heard the version for season 3 it didn't sit well....but after listentin to it repeatedly its definitely on its own level. they all on their own level. I watched the intro to season 4 up on here...some r&b shit going on...didnt sit as well...but i know it will grow.

i like season 2 the most. i thought the new characters were strong and really believable..Sobotka, the Greek and all his lot. if there was a slight weakness i suppose it seemed slightly contrived the way it brought all the detectives back under one roof. but thats a minor point,, loved the whole show. Season 5 the weakest in my opinion, but still has some incredible threads running through it

I welcomed the change. It kept the "streets" from becoming stale while leaving the docks when its storyline had run its course. However, I didn't like how the writers all but abandoned characters that were so central to season two such as Nick Sobotka. Also, Beadie Russell was present in later seasons but only in a very limited role.

Alot of people say season 2 is boring because there isnt enough "gun play" but i absolutely disagree and LOVE season2. The Greeks and the Sabotkas are excellent characters and show the intricacy and business like mindset these criminals have. I wish they showed more of Spiros and the Greek in the later seasons. Sergey is also one of my favorite characters. "Did he have hands? Did he have a face?? THEN IT WASNT US!"

Check out The Corner. It is a 6-part HBO series from 2000 written by David Simon and Ed Burns about a family who live in Baltimore. It is sort of the kernel on which The Wire was based. It's really good.

I can't help but associate each season's theme song with a character. Season 1 reminds me of Bubbles. With S3 it's Avon and S4 it's Mike's brother Bug. S5's theme I associate with Carcetti, and of course Frank Sobotka represents S2's theme.
