Finally, please realize that while the clips you showed are fantastic evidence that Haruka and Michiru are a canon lesbian couple, these clips are also excerpts from episodes which have yet to be translated into English, let alone be broadcast on American airwaves.
I realize that true, diehard Sailor Moon fans like you and I will know that the pair are homosexuals, but the casual American viewer probably will not (and through no fault of their own).

@1stNyappeli Same. When I first watched the anime (the american dubbed one). I didn't get that they were cousins, I always thought that they were together. Once I read the manga when I was older their interactions made much more sense.
Uranus and Neptune are definitely lesbians, no doubt about it. But to the people saying that Mars and Venus are in the manga as well, I don't think that's accurate. They are really close, but there doesn't seem to be a romantic connection there. In the manga, Mars doesn't show any interest in men, but I think that's because she has trust issues with them because of her father's abandonment. As for Venus though, it's shown that she likes men in several different instances in the manga and anime.

Ok people here's the facts Haruka and Michuru are in fact a LESBIAN couple! Even Noako Takeuchi the creator of Sailor Moon said they were a couple the reason why they're cousins in the dub is that people over here weren't comfortable about gay couples being on their TV sets especially an anime series. This was before shows like Queer As Folk,The L Word, Queer eye for the straight guy and Glee were on television The Japanese subs are more true to the manga.

Usagi was unknowingly(cause she is kinda dense at times) kinda cheating on Mamoru with Seiya. Now while Seiya is male, he says the it is merely a "disguise form". So in a sense I guess you could say it was lesbian since Seiya cared so much for her... although I wouldn't entirely call that one a full thing.
However, its very common for homosexual couples to be featured in Japanese stuff. They're much more open about it. Japan has all the legal rights for homosexual marriage etc. They've been pretty well about it for longer than we have actually. But, here's something some people don't know. Many of the Japanese samurai were gay. I learned this in history books and watching other stuff on TV about Japanese history.

@GargLassie Rei Hino is straight in the anime, but in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, she gets to be very close to Minako Aino. Many of their interactions can be interpreted as like those of lovers, and they seem to make up for the absence of Uranus and Neptune in the anime with their relationship.

ummm its hard. i dont care for most anime's today. And the very few i do find usually arent like the super popular ones you find on like fox kids. I will say if you haven't already seen Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne, they're great classics to watch. Also, if you've seen CardCaptor Sakura, you have to watch the 2nd movie. It fully ends concludes the series. the last 70th episode left a couple things hanging on purpose. Also 2 anime movies to see are Perfect Blue & Ninja Scroll.
@spashley16 You have to watch the Japanese original, CardCaptor Sakura. It's Sakura's older brother Toya and the Yukito(who transforms into Yuelater on). Althoguh you never see them hold hands etc they make several comments like it being a mystery why theyre the only guys in their school that dont have gf's and later when Sakura and Yukito are alking in a late part of the series Sakura tries to admit how she feels to Yukito, and Sakura ends up asking if it's her brother who's his special someone

In Poland and some other European countries there was some changes about homosexual context too that's why I prefer watching original anime with fansub, you can be sure it will be without any censorship.

The American version was shown on a channel called Cartoon Network, I don't know if you have it out there, but the channel appeals mostly to children, so they changed the names and the relationship.
Now, I understand for CN, but when it came to DVD sales, they could've re-recorded with the real translation.
I laughed so hard; these are some of the best scenes! The one where Minako freaks out is one of my favorites! The second favoirte is when Michiru is complaining about Haruka's weight...classic response from Haruka!! LOL

Hey I grew up on the English dub, but even I knew they were a little too close to be considered "cousins". Believe me, I caught on pretty quickly. I mean come on there's fully dead aways in like every episode that they were in! In fact, it makes it's better if they're a couple. ;)

Who ever did the censoring for English dub for Haruka and Michiru, only made things worse. They thought censoring them and thier advanceswere smart. Instead they made them cousins and totally ingored the fact that on DVD it is all uncensored. Can you say accidently incest?

I always found it interesting that they kept a lot of the flirting between Haruka and Michiru in the American version, but insisted they were cousins. It went from being slightly controversial (and completely see-through) to being illegal. Honestly. My cousin and I watched this when we were ten and we knew they were in love.

yes, they are a couple in Japan but becuase it was aired on an English children's channel, and American parents don't aprove of they're kids watching lesbo couples, they changed them to a close couple of cousins. They also changed Zoisite's gender to a girl for the english airing.

Ok, they're cousins in the English dub because English Sailor Moon was aimed at younger girls/childern who'd be too young to understand the concept of homosexuallity as well as the time in which it was dubbed it wasn't as accepted as it is now.
I wonder if they redubbed Sailor Moon now, how would they go about this fact? I mean retconning them into lovers or would they have them as cousins until the new season and have a scene where they talk about being sick of lying to the others...

Actually, in fact, Uranus and Neptune aren't the only homosexual couple portrayed in Sailormoon. Now, its been so long since i last watched first season, but in the English dub theres those two people that work for Beryl that were shown off as being a guy/girl couple. However, if you watch the Japanese original both are guys. While watching the english i was wondering how the one could be female when "she" had no breasts. But in fact, theyre both guys in Japanese. Usagi was unknowingly(cause she is kinda dense at times) kinda cheating on Mamoru with Seiya. Now while Seiya is male, he says the it is merely a "disguise form". So in a sense I guess you could say it was lesbian since Seiya cared so much for her... although I wouldn't entirely call that one a full thing.

However, its very common for homosexual couples to be featured in Japanese stuff. They're much more open about it. Japan has all the legal rights for homosexual marriage etc. They've been pretty well about it for longer than we have actually. But, here's something some people don't know. Many of the Japanese samurai were gay. I learned this in history books and watching other stuff on TV about Japanese history.

@GargLassie Rei Hino is straight in the anime, but in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, she gets to be very close to Minako Aino. Many of their interactions can be interpreted as like those of lovers, and they seem to make up for the absence of Uranus and Neptune in the anime with their relationship.

@GargLassie This relationship can be considered fanon, but many fans argue that the only reason it is not canon is because it was a children's show, hence the subtleties and ambiguities (e.g. trivial behaviors, special zoomups, etc. not supposed to be noticed by small children but by their parents watching with them) in their interactions as seen in the show. Rei is also shown to be close to Minako in the manga

ummm its hard. i dont care for most anime's today. And the very few i do find usually arent like the super popular ones you find on like fox kids. I will say if you haven't already seen Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne, they're great classics to watch. Also, if you've seen CardCaptor Sakura, you have to watch the 2nd movie. It fully ends concludes the series. the last 70th episode left a couple things hanging on purpose. Also 2 anime movies to see are Perfect Blue & Ninja Scroll.

@spashley16 You have to watch the Japanese original, CardCaptor Sakura. It's Sakura's older brother Toya and the Yukito(who transforms into Yuelater on). Althoguh you never see them hold hands etc they make several comments like it being a mystery why theyre the only guys in their school that dont have gf's and later when Sakura and Yukito are alking in a late part of the series Sakura tries to admit how she feels to Yukito, and Sakura ends up asking if it's her brother who's his special someone

i agree with you. these a lot of homosexual couples and comments in many anime series, even young ones like CardCaptor Sakura. All hiding the subject does is cause problems for young people later in life whether its from them discovering they are gay or learning to accept those different from themselves.

Look it up they are not cousins, the English Translators wanted Sailor Moon to be a movie that younger kids could watch too, so they talked to the original makers of the Anime and agreed to change Amara and Michelle (or Haruka and Michiru) to cousins instead of lesbians but they are indeed lesbians.

The American version was shown on a channel called Cartoon Network, I don't know if you have it out there, but the channel appeals mostly to children, so they changed the names and the relationship.
Now, I understand for CN, but when it came to DVD sales, they could've re-recorded with the real translation.

The only reason they took it out was probably the parents wouldnt tolerate it once they saw it. they thought "moon tiara magic" was to violent so they had to take it out in the third season. (so ive been told)

I don`t really see why they thought they should shield children from homosexuality. Here, a few years ago, they once mentioned it on an evening-show for children. The host explained to his sidekick-doll that he had gay friends and what gay meant.
