il est magnifique cet avion, le prix aussi sans doute, pour un tel jouet, mais bon, c'est bien connu quand on aime on (doit) pas compter, sauf en période de crise
Love the sound of the radial, sounds just like the R1820s that were on the Ol' Goats I flew in while a U.S.C.G AD3 Flight mech. in the 70s. Some avgas and oil and yeah Baby !!! Love that smell in the morning !!!!!!
I use rc plane engines on 1/4 scale tanks but good bye $160 my cousin set the tank on fire and blew the tank and engine up good thing the tank is metal
@kenupcmac if you knew anything about aviation D-BAG! one of the greatest pilots known, Jimmy Franklin! flew the full scale version. it's awesome D-BAG.
Great job with this model! I remember the first time I saw Jimmy Franklin fly the full scale version at Oshkosh, it blew my mind. I kept looking around to see where the jet sound was coming from and thinking somebody needs to tell that jet to get out of here, can't they see the bi-plane? LOL! This still is the most unique airshow plane in my 25 years of Oshkosh. Great job!!!!
man this is just beautiful!!! I'm not a big fan of the turbine on this waco (even though it's been done for real), wacos are my dream plane. but mannnn that radial engine sounds FUCKIN NUTS!!!! you cream your pants just listening to it!!!! A+ boys.
By the time a guy got done with buying this stuff, the plane, RC gear, that turbo prop radial engine, the batteries and servos, you're talking in the neighborhood of $15,000. It sure is beautiful though I must say. Can it be powered by a gas or diesel RC model engine though? Putting a turbine engine in this one seems like installing a GE jet in a Model-T Ford. Just my observation, sure flies nice though.
Well, I was on AMR's web site, this baby is $2,495.00 and the 400cc Moki radial engine is $6095, plus radio gear batteries, servos, receiver and transmitter, man, you'r looking at $15,000 or more for this model. I ghuess if you have that kind of disposable money around, this is what a guy would buy. I love Ham Radio, one can drop $15,000 there very easily too. Great looking plane though. I did wonder one thing though, could it be powered by a gas or diesel type RC engine instead of a turbo type?
@allenjan36 Yeah, it originally flew on just the radial with no problems at all (i.e no turbine). It is just a gas motor (even though it is a radial). You could fly it on anything so long as it had enough thrust. With the current advancement in electric motors and LIPO batteries, perhaps even an electric set up ??
This is one gorgeous airplane, I went up in an actual '46 Waco once in North Carolina, it was magnificent. The guy that flew that plane was a retired, Quantas Pilot, hell of a nice guy. One beautifully detailed airplane. I want one. Did you scratch build it? Certainly there are no kits with this kind of exacting detail around. Where did you get that turbine engine and how does it tick? I am fascinated by these turbine engines on RC aircraft. Terrific job. Al
@allenjan36 Hi Al, The kit is from AMR in Canada. Have a look at their website, they also do a slightly smaller one than this (I think 33%). Turbine is made by Jetcat, and is a miniature version of the real deal. This model is owned by a friend of mine, and he also has about 5 or 6 other large turbine models. There are only 3 Full size WACO's flying in AUS and I just happen to know the owner of an amazing one. I will post some video of it soon - cruising around Sunshine Coast Australia .
Sweet plane.. but why why why do people have to spoil the whole effect of their fabulous planes by putting a crappy pilot in them... dolls, stuffed animals, barbie dolls... sheeesssshhhhh - best leave the cockpit empty!
australian & world first petrol/turbine model....because only us aussies are stupid enough to try something like that.....WHAT a total waste of time and resource. I really hope you have now removed that turbine from the plane, because honestly it ruins it. Its like putting a turbine on your fricken trainer for gods sake!
@daz167 Thanks for your thoughts Daz. But the turbine is on there as it is an exact scale replica of a real plane - that's the whole point. There are a number of these around the world now, so it seems it is not just us aussies that are crazy.
@daz167 Have you ever seen the real mystery ship? it's very hard to tell the difference between this model and the full scale. exept for the lack of the wing walker lol.
Two of the sweetest sounds in the model aviation world -- a Moki radial and a turbine. However, I'm not so sure that the sum is equal to the total of the parts -- both of these sounds are best enjoined in isolation (IMHO). But bring it to the 2010 ANZAC jet meeting (February) in NZ anyway ;-)
How about this? A turbine powered propell engine? Now that would be awesome
SMGJohn 2 months ago
Absolutly beautiful! Sure doesn't need the turbine and the Moki is awsome.
