@wildcarpathia Is it possible to change the music with the new song Nostalgy by Edward Maya? That music is very representative for our nation; it is inspired by our authentic folklore. Thank you for a reply.
Romania is not the birth place of all Indo-European languages nor did the Romans originate from Romania. The first known inhabitants of Romania were the Dacians or Getae who were one of several Thracian tribes inhabiting eastern Europe. Romania was given it's name by the Romans who occupied the land and colonized it, eventually merging with the local population.

@romandezamagit Sad that way to many people fail to see that what you're saying is straight on.Sure on some certain level I'm proud to be romanian and I get way to easily offended when someone speaks something bad about my country but let's be honest. In the last 20 years or so the romanian people have ruined the little we had left from the comunism regime.I shouldn't generalize but the small percentage of kind hearted people that are left in Romania are a dying breed that cannot change anything
@TheUncleBilly , moving to the particular case of Romanians. Hungarians claim that Romanians originate somewhere in south Balkans. The problem with that is the total lack of any historical sources saying that they originate there. Moreover, the branches of Romanians ( aromanians, meglenoromanians, etc ) from Balkans migrated from North, according to the Strategikon of Kekaumenos who even says they are "Dacians and Bessi" who fleed from Romans. What's even the point of lying in 2011?
Secondly, the Roman invaders were in Transylvania. Sighisoara was a Roman fort. "Castrum Sex" I believe. When they departed, some soldiers stayed. Where does Romania get its name? From the Romans. Ipso facto, Transylvania has been Romanian at least since the year 270 AD.
@grauntele Actually, a more ancient root of the name Romania is "om" which means man. This is an archaic form of colloquial Latin which many indicators show originated in this land. Many ancient people called themselves simply "people of.." or "man" which would mean that Romania originally meant simply "land of our people". Romania is much older than Rome. 160 years of Roman occupation was not enough time to Romanize this land. It was already Latin when the Romans arrived.
@grauntele Romania is the birthplace of indo-European and Latin languages. Romanian is the only European language to not have dialects. This indicates that Romanian is the original language of Europe. Latin tribes originated in Romania and latter migrated to the Italian peninsula and formed the Roman civilization. This means that Rome is Latin because of Romania, not Romania is Latin because of Rome. The non-Latin Etruscans were the original Italians.
Further to your comment about Romanians being natives in Transylvania. With all due respect (that is a polite way to insult somebody) it is NO business of the Hungarians to decide WHO is native in a country they invaded! It is NOT their country! No, I am not a xenophobe. I have friends from many countries, including Hungary.
@TheUncleBilly , unfortunately Hungarians are raised to believe that the teritories from Romanians, Slovaks, Serbs, Croatians, etc belong to them. Basically they think that the Hungarians when they came here all the Carpathian basin was empty or extremely low populated and then all these populations came invited by Hungarian kings. If this was true and let's take Transylvania, how come their own writings speak about the conquest of Transylvania and the Romanians as being natives?
Thank you wildcarpathia for uploading this clip. If you can, I hope you will upload the whole documentary when it appears on TV. I have walked all Romania when I was young with my dad, in his job missions, it was easy for him to take a 7 year old with him as I was a quite lad :). And I made the Romanian tour with my parents and our car a couple of times when I was a teenager but I am sure I still didn't saw 100% or this beautiful site, so I am looking forward to see this documentary, PEACE :)
Dont worry about some of the more agresive comments, we just had an agitated history, and thats still going on to these days. Thanks for all the hard work and keep it up!
superb superb superb, dar nu e o idee buna sa aratam strainilor toate secretele noastre, ei de vin in Romania vin sa aduca mizerie, acest teritoriu ar trebui sa fie inchis strainilor, chiar si unor romani certati cu natura, bunul simt...e ultima frontiera salbatica, multe tari ar dori sa aiba asa ceva, dar au distrus tot ce au avut, strainul fie englez, neamt, italian aduce doar distrugere, suferinta, nimic bun,iar ptr maruntis plata va fi prea mare....as prefera sa ne pazim ultimele bogati ramase.
@Hackzoid interesting.... you said ”we” than too bad is populated. You are either a zombie or suicidal. Not feeling pity in any of the cases. Beautiful landscapes can be found in many places, but it is the people that surround those, who give true value and bring them to life.
Thank you for bringing out the best that Romania has to offer. Maybe our country's Ministry of Tourism will learn something from this documentary about how a country image should be created.
I'm happy to be romanian, to be part of this spectacular country. I'm happy that I had the possibility to see most of the important places here. It's truly a bless to have these mountains. I'm proud to be romanian!
Thank you all for your comments however any swearing or offensive language will be removed. The aim of the programme was simply to promote Romania and the beauty of the Carpathian Mountain range to the world, not to antagonise or stir up political hatred. This is a film focussing on the environment, conservation and the vital need to preserve on of the most beautiful parts of Europe - nothing more.
@wildcarpathia I agree about removing swearing, racist comments about Roma, etc, they're awful. Coming back to your programme. I have no doubt it is well put together and will sell well. I'll keep an open mind about the content. Still, if you want to promote Romania and its beauty why not mention its name in the programme synopsis, for example? Why the need for Carpathia? I am sorry to be such a nuisance, but I hope you understand why I might be puzzled. Perhaps we can talk after the 30th.
@wildcarpathia the film is paradoxically focusing on promoting Romania's untamed wilderness, with the result being that more people will come and thus destroy the wilderness??? hmmm....
@wildcarpathia I would like to say thank you in the name of all romanians to Prince Charles and travel channel.I live in London for about 10 years now , my childrean are born in London but nothing will make me stop loving my native country and I will do the best I can to let everyone know about this beautiful country.
Telling everyone the truth about the gypsies. Letting everyone know WE ARE ROMANIAN not gypsies and that's a fundamental difference! I personally wrote quite a number of articles all over the place about this delicate subject. WE NEED TO SPEAK OUT THE TRUTH. Let them know. Post everywhere. Repeatedly. Till they know the difference.
DianaSisu, how about thinking of Carpathian Garden as a similar campaign? So Carpathia, Carpathian Garden, which ever suites you best. Romania's name as a country, as you've noticed, is clearly shady in European consciousness. For me it is an honor. To watch and hear HRH Prince Charles talking about my country and unequivocally promote our country. I think the real campaign here should be managed by all of us. Start a movement or something on every single site and forum all over Europe.
@maxxxiejazz To promote Romania you mention its name repeatedly, you do not invent the ridiculously named Carpathia! It is particularly in programmes like these that we should shout ROMANIA so that it gets associated with beautiful imagery. 'Carpathian Garden' would be fine as long as you make it clear you are talking about Romania. Not 'present day Romania' as the clip says, just Romania. You don't shake off a poor image by changing your name but by changing the image associated with it.
@DianaSisu So you think you could fix this just weaving the burdened name around? Well, could be, but less expected. This is a long process, Diana. Association could work as many other cases. I can't disagree with you though. I'd probably go write so more articles and spell my country's name all over the place, so they'd know the truth!
@maxxxiejazz Yes, I would shout 'Romania' in spite of its image, but let's agree to disagree (vorba englezului). As you say, it is a long process so the sooner you start it, the better. I know you are all excited about the programme and that is good, but, judging from the preview clip, it does nothing for us. It avoids to mention Romania and the Romanians. It's Carpathia (????) populated by 'the locals'. Also, they only refer to Transilvania as 'present day Romania' as if they have other plans.
This is an appalling programme, which does nothing to promote Romania. The programme synopsis on the Travel Channel web site mentions the 'little known Carpathia'. It is little known because it doesn't exist. Thanks to the mass media, Romania has a tarnished name and it is obvious that HRH Prince Charles is not to be associated with it. They have had to invent a new country. I am trully shocked the Romanian authorities were unable to spot this re-branding exercise!
Ultima data cand am vizitat Romania,am dat o tura prin Maramures.Am intalnit un cuplu de americani care mi-au zis ca de 20 ani merg anual in Maramures.
This is a kind of Alaska in the heart of Europe ... we should protect and keep these beauties for ourselves and not for the Bruxelles ... unfortunatelly, EU and uncontrolled development will damage for good Romania....
Some Hungarians deny Romanians as natives in Transylvania. The joke of the jokes is that in their oldest Hungarian historical chronicle, named Gesta Hungarorum and about a dozen others it is written that Romanians are natives in Transylvania. It's very sad that Hungary in 2011 is the only country from Europe with at least 5 version of histories for all its neighbours and the youth education is done in the spirit of revenge. Guess what folks, you didn't "loose" anything at Trianon. Have fun.
This movie represents Romania, not all those images with poor, uneducated and uncivilized gypsies. This is us and what we know about us; and this is what the rest of the world should know...
Can't really see the importance of shitty religion into this movie with God and whatsoever. Especially damn jews ones. On the other hand, great movie. Hope will be available on DVD, Blue-Ray soon.
In the first trailer they talk about the legal and the illegal logging. Romanians, watch out!!! Your beautiful inheritance might disappear sooner than you think if you keep acting irresponsibly towards it!!!
@Sisyphicus , yes it is...and the fact that Prince Charles descends from Romanian Vlad Tepes makes it even greater. I think that words like this from Prince Charles could benefit entire Eastern and Central Europe. Unfortunately these parts of Europe are being looked down by westerners. All of these countries are great Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria etc. I love all of them and i'm proud of this community
This is not only advertising. The things really are like this in Romania. Not only all bad things presented all over the world. There are many valuable things.
I'd love to stay an unknown land to the rest of the people. I don't want lots of people to invade this virgin teritories. Otherwise, they won't stay the same...
@grasza01 Been there done that in Retezat if you don;t know that is in Hunedoara country.. People hate one another, constantly complain about their president and their corruption but they all just sit and gossip.
The nature is being ripped apart as we speak. Trees are ripped off the beautiful hills I don;t think the damage can be undone now stupid romanians keep licking your own wounds while the smart ones of you emigrate on every chance.
@GamingPro2 Sorry for your not so pleasant experience. Still, I know a lot of people who have different opinions. Not to say about statistics. This country of “wallet stealing lazy and dirty scumbags” has a low criminality rate (much lower than the US) and the second longest working week in Europe. Some information about economic growth could also help. Finally, much of the software you are using right now is made by Romanians.
@GamingPro2 Judging a nation of 21 millions by your talks with 10-20 people only is hardly an intelligent gesture. Still, I won’t fall in the trap of judging your whole nation by your attitude – which, as it is now, is not an evidence of any culture or civilization. (P.S. Hunedoara is a "county”, not a “country”).
@papaszem44 And long before 1920?Learn some history and then post comments RETARD BOZGOR.Transylvania has allways been Romanian even when it was "stoled" by shitty hun"gay"rians like you.
@papaszem44 Check history books. And also talk with a professor of history. OK? Hungarians always invented their history, but people know this so that's why the no other country in the world accepts your versions of history. Transylvania was always inhabited by Romanians, you like it or not.
@papaszem44 check 1:42, thats "Sarmizegetusa Regia" , the pre-roman capital of Dacia, that is located in Transilvania. Dacians (romanians) were on these lands since the beggining of the time. In Caraș-Severin, in "Pestera cu oase" (cave with bones) were discovered the oldest human remains in Europe.
But Transilvania does belong to the people that live there, if you and anyone in EU like it so much, nobody stops you to move there.
".......Between the 10th and 14th centuries new political formations emerged in the Carpathian-Danube region. The Hungarians, who had settled in Pannonia at the end of the 9th century and who entered Dacia in the 10th century, overwhelmed the Slavic-Romanian duchies, or voivodates, that they encountered there."
@AndreiMichael since 1920, when it was torn apart from Hungarian Kingdom, to an attacker, but seriously defeated country, which even signed the peace treaty before the war ended.
@wildcarpathia Is it possible to change the music with the new song Nostalgy by Edward Maya? That music is very representative for our nation; it is inspired by our authentic folklore. Thank you for a reply.

Finally, BEFORE the Romans, Dacia and Thrace were ruled by Burebista. That was roughly modern Romania.
When the Romans left, Ptolemy wrote about the towns between the river Ister (Danube) and the Alpes Bastarnicae (Carpathians) that was Dacia.
TheUncleBilly 4 months ago 7
@TheUncleBilly , moving to the particular case of Romanians. Hungarians claim that Romanians originate somewhere in south Balkans. The problem with that is the total lack of any historical sources saying that they originate there. Moreover, the branches of Romanians ( aromanians, meglenoromanians, etc ) from Balkans migrated from North, according to the Strategikon of Kekaumenos who even says they are "Dacians and Bessi" who fleed from Romans. What's even the point of lying in 2011?
gogoasacenusie 4 months ago 3
Secondly, the Roman invaders were in Transylvania. Sighisoara was a Roman fort. "Castrum Sex" I believe. When they departed, some soldiers stayed. Where does Romania get its name? From the Romans. Ipso facto, Transylvania has been Romanian at least since the year 270 AD.
TheUncleBilly 4 months ago 6
@TheUncleBilly "Where does Romania get its name? From the Romans."
True. The name of our country comes from Latin. Romania means "land of the Romans" and Transylvania means "the land beyond the forest".

@grauntele aha.Landu romanilor si nu landul rromulanilor.lol.Hai lasa poantele, stim cu totii adevarul.
dncviorel 4 months ago
@grauntele Actually, a more ancient root of the name Romania is "om" which means man. This is an archaic form of colloquial Latin which many indicators show originated in this land. Many ancient people called themselves simply "people of.." or "man" which would mean that Romania originally meant simply "land of our people". Romania is much older than Rome. 160 years of Roman occupation was not enough time to Romanize this land. It was already Latin when the Romans arrived.
alpidistra 1 month ago
@grauntele Romania is the birthplace of indo-European and Latin languages. Romanian is the only European language to not have dialects. This indicates that Romanian is the original language of Europe. Latin tribes originated in Romania and latter migrated to the Italian peninsula and formed the Roman civilization. This means that Rome is Latin because of Romania, not Romania is Latin because of Rome. The non-Latin Etruscans were the original Italians.
alpidistra 1 month ago
@gogoasacenusie
TheUncleBilly 4 months ago 4
@TheUncleBilly , unfortunately Hungarians are raised to believe that the teritories from Romanians, Slovaks, Serbs, Croatians, etc belong to them. Basically they think that the Hungarians when they came here all the Carpathian basin was empty or extremely low populated and then all these populations came invited by Hungarian kings. If this was true and let's take Transylvania, how come their own writings speak about the conquest of Transylvania and the Romanians as being natives?

Thank you all for your comments however any swearing or offensive language will be removed. The aim of the programme was simply to promote Romania and the beauty of the Carpathian Mountain range to the world, not to antagonise or stir up political hatred. This is a film focussing on the environment, conservation and the vital need to preserve on of the most beautiful parts of Europe - nothing more.
wildcarpathia 4 months ago 118
@wildcarpathia I agree about removing swearing, racist comments about Roma, etc, they're awful. Coming back to your programme. I have no doubt it is well put together and will sell well. I'll keep an open mind about the content. Still, if you want to promote Romania and its beauty why not mention its name in the programme synopsis, for example? Why the need for Carpathia? I am sorry to be such a nuisance, but I hope you understand why I might be puzzled. Perhaps we can talk after the 30th.

Repeatedly. Till they know the difference.
maxxxiejazz 4 months ago 6
DianaSisu, how about thinking of Carpathian Garden as a similar campaign? So Carpathia, Carpathian Garden, which ever suites you best. Romania's name as a country, as you've noticed, is clearly shady in European consciousness. For me it is an honor. To watch and hear HRH Prince Charles talking about my country and unequivocally promote our country. I think the real campaign here should be managed by all of us. Start a movement or something on every single site and forum all over Europe.
maxxxiejazz 4 months ago
@maxxxiejazz To promote Romania you mention its name repeatedly, you do not invent the ridiculously named Carpathia! It is particularly in programmes like these that we should shout ROMANIA so that it gets associated with beautiful imagery. 'Carpathian Garden' would be fine as long as you make it clear you are talking about Romania. Not 'present day Romania' as the clip says, just Romania. You don't shake off a poor image by changing your name but by changing the image associated with it.
DianaSisu 4 months ago 5
@DianaSisu So you think you could fix this just weaving the burdened name around? Well, could be, but less expected. This is a long process, Diana. Association could work as many other cases. I can't disagree with you though. I'd probably go write so more articles and spell my country's name all over the place, so they'd know the truth!
maxxxiejazz 4 months ago
@maxxxiejazz Yes, I would shout 'Romania' in spite of its image, but let's agree to disagree (vorba englezului). As you say, it is a long process so the sooner you start it, the better. I know you are all excited about the programme and that is good, but, judging from the preview clip, it does nothing for us. It avoids to mention Romania and the Romanians. It's Carpathia (????) populated by 'the locals'. Also, they only refer to Transilvania as 'present day Romania' as if they have other plans.
DianaSisu 4 months ago 4
This is an appalling programme, which does nothing to promote Romania. The programme synopsis on the Travel Channel web site mentions the 'little known Carpathia'. It is little known because it doesn't exist. Thanks to the mass media, Romania has a tarnished name and it is obvious that HRH Prince Charles is not to be associated with it. They have had to invent a new country. I am trully shocked the Romanian authorities were unable to spot this re-branding exercise!

Have fun.

AndreiMichael 5 months ago 5

@papaszem44 , read in Britannica Enciclopedy:
".......Between the 10th and 14th centuries new political formations emerged in the Carpathian-Danube region. The Hungarians, who had settled in Pannonia at the end of the 9th century and who entered Dacia in the 10th century, overwhelmed the Slavic-Romanian duchies, or voivodates, that they encountered there."
