BTW I'm seeing a bunch of comments castigating Tommy about the "thing" he refers to - its a short commercial so I don't think Evans marketing wanted Mr. Igoe to give a full technical discourse on the heads. He can save that for DVD material :) lol
I've used both Remo and Evans and can't really find a qualitative difference between the two brands. Both tune quickly, and last a long time while keeping definitive tone. Why Tommy switched from Remo to Evans is a mystery to me. My skepticism says its a commercial move (good business), but given the benefit of the doubt Tommy may have never used them before and thought they were great. Either way, Remo and Evans are excellent drumhead manufacturers and I'm still a diehard Igoe fan. :)
@tokarev445 I personally find that innovation is the only difference between different brands. Different brands bring different innovations to the table, and people go to the brand that creates the things that they like best. I am personally a Remo guy because I find that I enjoy their ideas more than Evans or Aquarian, but I,by no means whatsoever, find Aquarian and Evans to be bad brands.
Nice sounding heads but facts are all drum heads loose their true tone over time...Usage plays a big role on how long they will actually last but another factor also effects tone...
Humidity-heat-cold-indoor playing in a tiled floor room vs a carpeted floor...Wall and ceiling lined with sound foam (my room) This all plays a role in sonic tone comming from the drums.
The heads are onlt half the sound when you use differant wood shells. No heads last forever they all wear over time.
Seriously Tommy Igoe, mr. drum teacher? You can't describe the sound of a drumhead? The thing he is talking about is presumably that the drums have an absence of mid-high (overtone) frequencies without the boost of high (attack) frequencies. In other words, they have no overtones yet still have a natural sounding attack, unlike pinstripes.
hahaha funny try this head to a economic kit like precusion kit or low drum kit let see if is gona sound like that otherwise i just wasting my money!!..i have sp kit with basswood..hahaha...
I don't know what it is about Evans, but they work really well with dw drums. G2, and EC2's clear and coated always sound great on my drums - and I'm a REMO guy! Evans black resonant heads was what I used on the bottom with the ec2 batter. Best sound out of my drums ever.
@danlc95 exactly, i found that remo work best on gretsch and evans on dw, remo on yamaha etc. also maple sound better with evans and birch with remo... it is just the way the drum resonates and the drumhead is constructed....
i think they heads also sound good on a economic drumkit! so, my first drumkit was a very old and cheap NewSounddrumkit. It sounds terrible... i changed the heads to Remos Ambassador Coatet and the kit sounds really great. I have no doubts that a todays economic drumkit sounds bad with these heads. Economic kits today are really good.
hahaha is funny to see how the drum heads company try and to the test videos on drums like DW, Tama, Pearl or Mapex and the people think that their drums are going to sounds the same right?? They should do their videos with an economic kit haha
@xsodrummer Well actually if you own a really nice set of drums, then you might actually get that great sound out of the drums, but I'm not dissagreeing with your statement. There are probably many people who are playing on some First Act kit or who knows what?!! haha
@xsodrummer I don't think that their pitch is "Our great heads will make your shite drums sound amazing, it's pointless to use them on high-end drums though."
@inimicalODDITY You don't know do you. When these heads first came out, i put them on a premier cabria, and they sounded 90% better than the ambassador coated. Evans know what they are doing.
but drummers that know anything about drums know that they wont sound the same if they have an economic kit. because eco kits suck, and high quality kits do not. therefore to get good sound they use these heads. AND a good drumset
@JTrockdrummer Yerh I mean...'and has that thing, you can't er... um...it has a thing. When it works it works and when it doesn't it doesn't. You know exactly what I am talking about, all drummers know what I am talikng about.' Very well put man, couldn't of done it better myslef. Really, stupid idiot!
I having a damn clue what you are talking about! I have certainly done my research on heads and all things drum related. Great educated but this is a joke!
@spikeman23 No I was simpley typing precisely what he said in the video. I meant that he didn't describe the product very well thats all. It wasn't me who said it. Some people can be so ignorant. Sorry but take that back, what you said and shove it up...oh never mind! Oh well have a nice day :-).

i purchased the evans G2's, and was kind of disappointed. I think i want Evans EC2's, they have a more full bodied sound.

Why?
Maybe because i can play and I need a kit to play???

you know what would be awsome. if they made a snare head with the sst technology. that would probably sound great
