the key here is a sudden change in direction/acceleration to break the surface tension. another technique is to lean over part way with the clogged ear facing down, relax, and hit your head with the heel of your open hand/palm in the right spot--the TOP NEAR THE SIDE the water is stuck in--not too hard. the jolt causes a quick, abrupt acceleration that breaks the surface tension, and the water drains out. might still look a little crazy, but it's a more hardcore kind of crazy. Ooo rahh!
