So sad the hurtful things that happen and are said by those in and out of the church. There are thousands of members and leaders of the church who try their best to love and accept their GLBT brothers and sisters. I know firsthand because, as a gay member, believe it or not, I am loved by those in the church. I thank God I had the supportive family and friends I did and it makes me so happy to see the homophobia in the church SLOWLY - albeit painfully slowly - changing.

I remember seeing Mr. Swenson in the movie "The Singles Ward" while I was a Mormon.

I'm a returned missionary and have since left the church because I could not reconcile the doctrines of the church with neither my conscience nor my sexuality.

Out of my eight siblings, three of us are gay. I believe in religious freedom, but I can tell you from personal experience that the self-torment experienced by LGBT Mormons is tragic.

Nobody should ever be ashamed for being themselves.

The only time I felt like sexual orientation was a choice for me was when I dated men. I chose to fit in. I chose to not anger my family. I chose to be like the rest of society. I chose to be accepted. I chose to date men I weren't attracted to..becuase that was the easy choice for me. Until I couldn't breath anymore.

I cried while watching this and wondered how it would be if one of Monson's family was gay; would a change occur? Would this be the epiphany that is needed for some compassion to be shown? I hope so.
