im on my sons name. (old) lol but this is definitely my new favorite video! just got back from colorado and new mexico. dream come true to see co springs. wi/pass was the most beautiful thing ive ever seen. i know this is an older video, but curious as to how scary this is!!!!!!
@donkeydnd Please keep in mind that the video is playing at twice the "normal" speed. So, it looks a lot scarier than reality. If you are afraid of heights, some of the corners may give you pause at the higher elevations. The views from the Summit are well worth any anxiety you or your passengers might have. It's really quite a pleasant drive, and very scenic....definitely worth the time and effort.
I have driven this road two times, in 1969, when my parents were visiting me in the summer while I was stationed at the Air Force Academy, and again in 1976!
No foot traffic is allowed on the highway other than on trails that cross the road, or short "wanderings" out of your car. Sorry. However, there are plenty of hiking trails from which you can choose. In fact, there is a marathon up and down the mountain via Barr Trail every year. See pikespeak.us.com for more info.
Yeah, that was sad to hear about. Poor kid was distraught over a girlfriend. The good news, if I recall correctly was that the kid did not die, which in itself was a miracle considering the drop off. They have now placed huge boulders along the edge of the parking lot at the summit to make it harder for people to drive off the edge. They probably should have done that years ago.....alas....
Interesting ride up the peak. At about the 6:30 mark I think is when you feel like you are chasing another truck and with the switchbacks it seems you could go over the edge at any moment. At some point it is almost roller coaster like.

can I jog on this road? I do marathons, so this would be perfect...if not for noisy cars.

Awesome video! My family visited Pikes Peak/Colorado Springs area in August 2008. We took the Cog Train up one day, then drove up the next day.

I was up there on June 25th last year. We just left the summit before that kid drove his car off into the Bottomless Pit.

Great video!
Brings back a bunch of great memories.
I used to go fishing at the lake you passed by about half way up. Loved it! So quiet and peaceful.
There is a neat little gift shop at the lake for picknicks and a gold panning display for the kiddies.
One of my favotite places on earth.
I'm moving back to the springs in mid august and can't wait to visit the mountain again.
5/5!
