Looks like just straight picking to me...which is way cool because Hinds does his banjo picking thing on that solo...wondered if it could be pulled off with a pick. Also wondering why the backing Mastodon track is pitched up slightly...just curious.
Thanks dude. Mostly pick, few licks where I fingerpick a note or two, no more than that. I try not to think about it while playing, just let instinct take over if I can. The riff at 2:12 there's the odd fingerpick as you have to play across four or five strings with hammer-ons and offs and it's all pretty rapid. On the solo though it's all picking. Backing track pitched up so I could use standard tuning and get less give in the strings, but since recording this I've began playing in D standard.
