Thank you so much. Especially on the brink of leaving the area where we occasionally bump into you, I appreciate this way of sharing music on the much maligned internet agora.
Lovely! I play this on harpsichord and am always amazed at how many variations one can come up with for this piece. My thanks to the original composer centuries ago - whoever he or she is!
Excellent! I too am writing variations on La Folia at the moment, it's incredible fun! I've already done 'Greensleeves', one of my favourite melodies. It's wonderful to hear some non-professional composing (I don't mean this as any criticism of your excellent writing, but I mean as opposed to a commissioned piece at a professional concert, on TV etc!), it's great what something like youtube can do. I enjoyed this thoroughly and am looking forward to exploring your channel - best wishes Glen!
I'm pretty sure that if you come from a clarinet background you are well equipped to learn both C and F fingered recorders which essentially covers most the recorder sizes you would want to play.
That's exactly my story. I come from a clarinet backround too, so I never had the problems with C vs F that nearly every newcomer to recorder faces. Let's not bother with G and D recorders for the moment. :-)
Thank you. My comment was quite outdated, I had learned the recorder and with a few friends after getting our first recorders, we performed at Barns & Nobels, Canon, Hungarian Dance 5, Air (Handel), and Greensleeves. :D
I really like this performance, especially the soprano part from 2:59 till 6:54. That must've been really hard on your tongue!! I also really like the part from 6:23 till 6:54 =D Thanks for putting some more good recorder music on youtube! ('cause I think there isn't enough ;)
Although I am no big fan of the recorder as an instrument, it really warms my heart not only to hear but also 'see' your great composition. Great stuff! Can I link to YouTube from the Foliasite as well? Is there a recording of the arrangement for full ensemble in the making for YouTube?
Thanks! I'm glad our playing was able to transcend your dislike for the instrument. :)
Of course you're welcome to link to this video, please do. I do not have a full-ensemble version ready for YouTube, it's quite difficult to get 12+ players together to rehearse. However, there are three takes of audio, each bit has a problem so no one version is OK to use.
Yes I can imagine that it is not only a matter of good playing but of organizing as well. However it would be well worth the trouble. And there is an extra problem with visuals (as with live performances) I can imagine. Who may position her/himself in front of the camera, because one democratic row is hardly possible to visualize things closely for one or two cameras. Anyway good luck and happy playing. The camera technique in the quintet-performance was outstanding (camera knew its stuff!).
Yeah! I already played this! It´s so cool, it makes so much fun to play! We tried it with our Recorder orchestra, the "The Dortmund Recorder Orchestra"! It sounded fantastic and we like to do it this year or probably next year again, maybe then in concert! Thanks for composing it!!!!

Thanks! The variation at 2:59 isn't really too hard, but yes, it's tricky to keep it going for so long.
