  • Wait... Isn't blueray a DVD?

  • Yeah, because if you wait long enough....everything becomes obsolete...

    xD

  • I just love this stuff.

People like things they can hold.. Like guns and religion :D

    2:04

  • 3D movies are a fad ... again ... as you said. It's not even the bother with glasses and prices that will cause them to fade, it's that the new car smell will wear off and people will simply lose interest .... again. There are not as many applications as people claim, like the mouse and qwerty keyboard, we are too accustomed to working on and viewing 2D video and images.

  • @KittenKoder thats what they said about colored T.Vs and movies

  • @miesrah12 Not quite the same situation. 3D has been here many many many times already, color TV and movies just came and stayed. 3D is also just an enhancement to the image, it's not a new format or a revolutionary advancement. The problem is ... the problems, with 3D there is just no use for it, color had a massive purpose it filled, movies filled an even larger purpose. 3D fills no purpose.

  • @KittenKoder "but its so much more exciting when the movie comes flaying at you!" *throws a remote at you*

  • mail does not equal media

  • If 3D TV was eventually made in a way that 1- Didn't require glasses and 2- Didn't make you feel like you were half focusing your eyes and making your brain work overtime just for it to understand where to focus, like 3DS's and other non-glasses products... then it might be an option for me. Until then I would prefer to stick with 2D.

  • 3D is so stupid! Let's pay an extra 5$ at the theater to be uncomfortable!

  • I have to say that I DO have a 3D TV and it is AMAZING. You can even watch normal TV in 3D. It looks fantastic!

  • @jin098 I wish I could see 3D. Sadly some of us can't :(

  • Like guns.... And religion

    xD

  • Comment removed

  • *throws something*

    camera man: aaaahhhh!

  • Actually, if film makers started to use 3D as a means to enhance the submersion of the audience by giving the movie a sense of depth.

  • I can Not Imagine anything replacing Blu Ray unless they made the disk smaller the only other media over 15 GB Is flash card which Is about how much a HD movie uses. Myself I like older movies & there are only about 30 movies worth the extra price for Blu Ray as Yogi Bear & Sound Of Music & black & white & cartoons I buy use on VHS or DVD I also have Netflix & Hulu for wrestling & TV shows I do Not rent movie because it cost too much for fuel to get & return.

  • i will always whant to get a disc so i dont have to buy it agian

  • up thumb if watching 2011

  • this guy said 3d is going to disappear!! someone download this video. so 5 yrs from now we can shit on his face.

  • All I use is .mkv

  • "But the movie's just so much more exciting when you see things flying at you!" *throws some remote looking thing at the screen*

    LOOOL!

  • ya....I watch movies on youtube

  • Why the snipe at religion?

  • I would have agreed with you had I not experienced Netflix first hand. Netflix sound and picture quality is horrible. The choice of movie and TV shows isn't all that great either. I find it very hard to believe that based on this the sale of physical copies of movies and TV shows is on the way out. Why have an HDTV if the streaming video is so poor? (ie. VHS quality; at best). Besides, I think there will always be a demand for DVDs, Blu-rays, etc. from collectors.

  • I use VHS, VCD, and DVD....also still have a few floppies

  • Just you watch! We're going to return Betamax before you know it!

  • I like DVDs because they're super effing cheap. No matter how nice streaming is, things can always go wrong and eff up your movie watching experience...

  • crisis CRISIS! click pause somewhere in the part where he says crisis and look at his expressions, I find them to be funny as hell.

  • I just buy 1-3$ vhs because I truly don't care about quality etc.

We really just want what's cheap... no one cares.

When dvds are sold 1-3$ each, I'll buy that.

Why would I want to pay 50$ for a blu-ray disk or even worse a blu-ray/dvd combination box.

  • Bluray is crap. I've seen far too many DVDs that are BETTER QUALITY than the average Bluray disk.

3D totally sucks, Bluray totally sucks, just keep with high-definition DVDs.

Also, live streaming of videos is just plain stupid. . . .

  • @Arkatox Then you must have a shit TV. If your TV's dpi and resolution is shit, the Blu-Ray tends to look shitty because it doesn't match your shit tv.

  • @Arkatox You should go back to VHS, it looks WAY better than DVD.

  • @alexsabree Now that comment was actually funny. :9

  • @Arkatox But seriously. Streaming your media is becoming the norm. And if you must have a physical copy, your still able to. And for now they look much better than what you can download. But, the whole "DVD looks better than Bluray" is pretty strange considering that they are basically the same tech, but Bluray has a MUCH higher bitrate. Mind you, this is all coming from someone who collects Vinyls for his hifi equipment. So it's not like I easily buy into new things - like most people.

  • @alexsabree Well, in my dad's words (or similar), new stuff filmed in HD meant for Bluray is spectacular on Bluray. Things that are already on DVD (and HD) that are just "ported" to Bluray are either just as good as the DVD, or not quite as good. It just depends on how it was filmed and edited.

  • @Arkatox You know the same thing happened when DVD came out. The first DVDs were simply remastered versions of VHS movies. However, people LOVED the idea of switching over to digital. No more fuzzy pictures and or tape reels getting stuck... so the technology was easily embraced. Bluray isn't quite that groundbreaking.

Oh, and did you just imply that some DVD's are HD? I'm sorry but by today's standards, HD is anything above the 1280x720 resolution.

Oh and DVD is not HD by today's standards.

  • one problem with digital download if you get a new computer or yours crashes you have to buy it again. always get a disc.

  • OH I WISH I WAS A PUNK ROCKAR WITH FLOWARZ IN MAI HAIRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • I still rather have a disk or a downloadable format. With streaming they can charge you over and over again.

  • Im already sick to death of 3d :(

  • It's been more than 6 months.

  • As long as the gaming consoles still use discs, then discs will thrive.

  • Dont listen to this guy...he's payed to use his big mouth over youtube to trick you in thinking the DVD will die off soon....what hes really wishing is that the DVD would die off leaving nothing but Netflix....Dont be stupid dont listen to this guy...

  • @DWcriticism This isn't really supposed to be as educational as it is entertaining. Just look at the format of the videos, there met to cause a chuckle, have something fun to tell your friends.. and then forget about. Besides for those of you who say you've researched and "dissproven" his theories.. I think your theories are about as relevant as his.. because we're using the internet. Then again, at the same time my theory is just as relevant as well. Congratz, I just created a paradox.

  • Dang! I never noticed but.... Hes pretty Buff

  • I don't think dvd's will disapear any time soon. We only put movies on them and the only console that is using them is the PS3. But the PS3 content is often ported from pc, to xbox and to ps3.. so it could be on a dvd just the same. So the biggest disc industry: gaming.. is still using them. why? because we don't need blue ray ey.. or maybe we do but making the transistion will end up in nobody buying the game because xbox can't use them and pc's often don't have a blue ray driver.

  • You mis read the letter. You say, via media, when it should read, via mail.

  • I wonder if Netflix forecasted that the Canadian goverment is approving soon a download cap. Soon your internet bill will be based on how much bandwidth you use and netflix just swollows the bandwidth...Also when this passes will Netflix forecast that thousands will shit there pants when they get there internet bill....So dont listen to this guy...

  • 8-Tracks.

  • show your biceps more!

  • Can you show your abs?

  • Can you show your abs?

  • this guy said 3D is going to disappear, FAIL!!! i hope every movie is made with 3d.

  • @halflifeproductionz Come on bro. It goes and comes back everytime.

  • @halflifeproductionz

3D should disappear. There's no real difference, except the ticket price. After 10 minutes my eyes get used to it and I don't even notice it anymore. Useless.

  • @someguy459

3D makes my eyes tear. and that's not because I like it so much :-P

  • People like things they can hold...like guns...and religion. Don't know why, but it cracked me up.

  • Man, 3D is such a fad. And I remember when we broke out the VHS for my youngest siblings (currently 11 and 8). They were mesmerized. Then we broke out the turntable. They were mesmerized.

  • "But movies are so much more amazing when things fly at you!"

    "Ahh!"

    Epic.

  • Reason we like physical media? Watching full content in high quality offline without being bothered by Pop-ups and ads and shit. And if the BOUGHT AND PAID FOR DVD is crammed with unskippable anti-piracy clips that lets us feel like we're the ones who pirate, we rip the content into a clean copy and shove the big fat middle finger into fucking MPAA & Accomplices' ugly faces!

  • I couldn't help but notice that you're wearing a bright red shirt in this video AND in the netflix video. Is this some kind of subliminal reference? Because now I totally feel like I have to watch the netflix video. *click*

    (no flame intended)

  • streaming sucks, I prefer U-matic.

  • but the movies so more exiteing when you see things flying at you ahhh!

    ha ha

  • but the movies so more exiteing when you see things flying at you ahhh!

    ha ha

  • but the movies so cool when you see things flying at you ahhh!

    ha ha

  • but its so cool when you see things flying at you ahhh!

    ha ha

  • stop diagnosing dvds with terminal cancer...

  • i hope you didn't really mean that you're running out ot stuff to talk about and the show is over D(

  • oh man i love this show

  • Wait. You can hold religion? WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS! I WANT A PHYSICAL COPY OF RELIGION!

  • I go to the video store and rent a movie almost every week...

  • So, you're not actually saying anything with this one?

DVD's are dying... at some point?

    We knew that already.

  • Opinionated and not enough facts. You guys can do better.

  • 1:42 "Sales, rentals via media(mail), store and kiosk"

Read the word "media" instead of "mail".

  • I would have bought your DVD, but since they say DVD's are going extinct, i decided to stream it ;P

  • Are you still following the body for life program? In a totally non-stalker/pervert way, you fine!

  • Like guns, and religion. Ok that was funny.

  • 2:50 - 2:57

Lol, proving their own point with that discount.

Yeah, dvds will die off soon enough. But streaming has so many issues, bandwidth, downed internet, glitches, power outtages, road trips, gift wrapped movies on christmas (my favorite gift to give), and several other advantages of a "hard copy" makes the fact that physical media will never really go away. iPad won't replace paper for a LONG time, and although dvds may upgrade to small flash drives, or download stations at retailers..

  • @Feliscar I don't think streaming will be the end all be all of media ownership. for one thing, it's much harder to regulate, harder to provide the same quality.

Christopher Nolan still prefers film to digital because it still has a better quality, and appalls 3D and prefers IMAX for the higher resolution.

I hope 3D dies down a bit, at least until it becomes true 3d, and not a paper puppet show.

  • @Feliscar ahh without power you can't even watch tv...

My streaming works without power, using wireless broadband and my netbook.

  • @Sageeth no. Power outtages, even brief ones, screw up downloads like as in DVR and such. Also, power surges can screw up you're files. And if you're hard drive crashes, there goes all of your downloaded movies. Trust me, I speak from experience. that's what I meant by power outtages. Even a bad storm can cause corrupted signals, or if the bandwidth is crunched from over access. Just too many annoyances with streaming.

  • @Sageeth And I haven't had a scratched, broken, or lost disc for more than three years, and I got over three hundred dvds and 50 blu ray. And only four or five have gone bad that whole time. Some people just have bad habits when it comes to handling a disc.

  • I'll never stream videos. I have to wait for the damn things to buffer and while I'm doing that I can pop a DVD into the player and begin watching it the entire time it takes the streaming video to load.

  • @r0bw00d ahh... youtube is streamed video, just a bit different. Also never say never. The increase in internet speeds will eventually make it unnoticeable. I heard from a friend that in Finland he was able to download a blue ray movie in half an hour... that is shorter than the time that it takes to watch so if it was streaming there would have been no problem.

  • @Sageeth

YouTube videos aren't exactly found on DVD. And in the half hour it took your friend to download the movie, he could have already popped it into the player and have seen 27 minutes of the movie. Plus, what if you lose your internet connection while it's in the middle of streaming? You have to re-establish the connection and stream from the beginning again.

  • @r0bw00d must be the bandwidth of your internet connection. For me it takes only a few seconds for the buffering to finish. I have a 15Mbit DL.

  • @Duendito

Indeed it is. I have an internet card. I USED to have cable, but then I moved. :(

  • 6969 views!

  • I love the scream from the camera guy when he throws a remote at him.

  • Netflix's quality sucks and not enough movies online

  • @Albasirth the quality varies, sometimes 720p, sometimes only 480p and less. Not as crappy as Rogers On Demand, from what I've seen of that service, though ROD seems to have a big selection.... can't complain too much, Netflix is only $8/month, that's 2 movie rentals.

  • 6969 views...

  • The biggest obstacle for Blu-ray is the simple fact that the leap from DVD to Blu-ray is nowhere near as big as it was from VHS to DVD. Think about it! Going from VHS to DVD was miraculous. Movies consumed less physical space. No more rewinding. No picture degradation. Jump to any chapter. No mechanical parts. Discs are cheaper to produce. The list goes on!

Going from DVD to Blu-ray? "It's shinier!"

  • @TheBuzzSaw you have a point, however if people took the time to compare the various resolutions, they would realize that 1080p is a huge leap forward from DVD's 480p. Especially if you use a projector. I've had one for a few years now, they ROCK.

  • @Duendito I agree that the resolution improvement is mathematically drastic, but it still does not compare to the other overall conveniences afforded by the change in storage. Think about it. Would you still buy into "Blu-ray" if it went BACK to being a tape? Which would you pick? Higher resolution? Or discs that you can much more freely control (and consume less space)?

  • Physical Media is critical to keep as a consumer. Once you go all-digital, you'll find yourself re-buying everything you thought you owned every couple of years.

  • i still use vhs xD

  • @luffredd So do I, haha.

  • @luffredd holla ! :D

  • @luffredd I still use Beta. Now THAT's old school :D For those of you who even know what Beta is.

  • @luffredd Same here

  • @luffredd Only way to watch RAD!

  • @luffredd You are a hero.

  • @luffredd Vhs? I still use Betamax

  • @NathanWGregg I have to disagree.. Getting the real CD for music gives me the same feeling of having the full quality, and the whole product, without having to worry about it not being so.

  • I'm a happy user of Netflix but I still like to buy the Blu-rays of the stuff I really enjoy. The quality is usually a bit better and there is all the behind the scene and bonus features you get on the disc. The main reason I do this though is to support the stuff I like. Plus I can lend (that's right lend, not borrow) it to other people. With that said I'm off to your site to buy one of your crazy cheap DVDs I've been meaning to get. Good thing I waited till the fire sale.

  • sales, rentals via MAIL, store and kiosk. Not media. Must have slipped in the cutting booth. which probably isn't a booth.

  • Like guns and Releigion :D Priceless!

  • Streaming is quite possibly the future, but the infrastructure isn't yet properly in place. Plus there will always be people who want to own a physical hard copy of something.

  • Streaming: Buffering, takes long, makes you prone to viruses

DVD: easy to break, takes long

VHS: Fast, hard to break, simple :)

  • @MegaMozartfan you obviously don't have a twenty year old collections of around 300 videos like I did... suffice to say those old video tapes have gone to the tip...

DVD take long to what? Load pfft

Personally I like to watch video I rip from my DVD collection and put onto a portable HDD.

  • @MegaMozartfan You have to rewind them

  • @MegaMozartfan: VHS: fast? Well, sure - if you want to watch your content in a linear fashion (except for the rewind at the end.) But fast forward and reverse - not fast. Chapter seeking? Non-existent. Oh yeah, then there's video and audio quality.

  • lol !!! if you wait long enough, everything will be obsolete. So true.

The paid internet content is already here.

The downside is, that by now we mostly watched movies with more people (family/friends), and now it's going more into pc conrners of our homes.

  • "Dumb Dumb Stupid that was a naughty word in the house I grew up in where is some soap" LOOOOOLLLLL XD Priceless

  • I love using DVDs. The thing that where I live never get on time. So I watched all my favorite TV shows on the internet. But movies, no. I still go to Blockbuster and rent some DVDs, or buy them if there're really good. I love to have DVDs, and have the oportunity to watch them everytime I want to with no difficulties. :)

  • @NathanWGregg I'm 16

  • Maybe in the U.S. Where I live (The Caribbean) we regularly rent physical DVDs. It's become a sort of a traditional family thing where we rent a handful of DVDs on friday. Internet here is...not up to par with the wealthy world so people are still dependent on the physical copies. Though I *did* notice a decline in new DVDs available in the last couple of months.

  • Last time I was in a videostore to buy/rent DVDs was.... friday!

I like to be able to hold a DVD, it gives me the feeling that it's the real thing, which I don't always get with a streaming video. Also for those who doesn't have fast enough internet... if they want to see a 2 hour movie, they probably don't want to use 5 hours of their time too watch it. I don't think DVD's will die just yet. maybe DVD's will die, like the VHS did, but we have bluray to replace them. At least for now.

  • @totten94 I bet your over 40 though.... us young people either download from the internet or buy online (amazon).

  • @phakim33 A whole generation that doesn't hae to rewind...kinda makes me sad, and nostalgic. VHS was faster than DVD and streaming video though. VHS, you can just fast foreward through the commercials. Can't do that with DVD, just get that "can't do that function" text. While VHS deteriorates over time, 1 scratch on that DVD, and you're fucked. Streaming video, one hard drive crash, one virus, you're fucked.

VHS was also easier to get out of the box. What's with those little flaps on DVD cases?

  • @nate556 one word: backup.

  • @Duendito Backup costs money, either discs or flash drives, or an external hard drive. Lot of money being tossed around there.

  • @phakim33 I'm 16..

check out my videos to see that I'm NOT over 40..

  • I used to rent from Blockbuster all the time. But I moved and I don't have one close to me anymore.

  • its all true.. look at what happened with blockbuster. Their shutting down their stores cause not enough people rent anymore.

  • Oh, for God sake! It seems like you're always trying to talk about things that piss me off! There are still lots of people who like using DVDs, it would not be the right thing to do to expire them around now. The only possible better thing than discs is just making the disc reader able to read past scratches and all so the damn discs won't skip. Not everyone will agree to use "blue-ray" or download everything from the Internet, so just stop talking about how all the fun's walking out the door!

  • While I watched this Google showed me an advertisement to win a €1000 voucher for a DVD store!!!

  • Stop it! Don't you understand that unless the format of what actually is put in the machine (a round disc) is changed, the format will survive for a lifetime! I think the discs will get bigger (capacity) and better but it will always be "streaming" vs. "some disc". The reason is that the disc readers are so extended. If you buy a new product that does the new stuff and also does the old, it's a no brainer. That's why DVD players worked, as they also played CD's. Hey anyone remember laser-discs?

  • i go to blockbuster everyday! I love DVDs... :D

  • so sad and so true.

  • Yes, yes I am the one who pays late fees.

  • lol "via media"

  • i prefer a physical copy of a movie than a computer download. once you run out of disk space on your computer then your screwed. youd have to have like an enitre computer dedicated solely to netflix and thatll fill up eventually too. then what? fill up a flash drive? oh look! physical media again! its just another format! id rather have a stack of DVDs than a slow running computer with too much on it, thanks.

  • 3D may die, but i dont think they it will die as fast as the red&blue 3D, because that really sucked, the 3D we have now is like perfect!

i think it will be a long time before this 3D dies out

  • Nooo way DVD's are going to die. I use CD/DVD's all the time, so as everybody I know... still, love your show

  • It has been about 7 years since I have used a DVD for a movie. And I watch about 3 movies a week.

  • "Sale, rentals via mail* store and kiosk." you said via media. lol

  • but the horse and carriage will make a comeback! you'll see

  • i think i just died on the inside

  • few years back i wanned to buy a dvd player, now im glad i didnt, basicly i have never ovned and or watched dvds EVER!!! i still watch VCR's.

  • @plavins1 I am sad that you just watch VCR's. The video cassettes were so much more interesting to watch, or even the screen. (Sorry, I'm a part-time vlounteer Grammar Nazi)

  • @plavins1 I am sad that you just watch VCR's. The video cassettes were so much more interesting to watch, or even the screen. (Sorry, I'm a part-time vlounteer Grammar Nazi)

  • @plavins1 new movies arent printed onto vhs tapes anymore. i recommend investing in a combination vcr dvd player. theyre not too steep and easily solve the problem

  • We must resurrect the Betamax!

  • Can we just stream your movie?

  • >.< when are you gonna do an episode about IQs?

    love your show :)

  • Everyone, link this channel on your facebook!...or dont its up to you ..well do it, if you think this show deservers waaaay more views. No this is not WhatYouOughtToKnow making another channel to comment on there own video to get more attention...I'm just saying.

  • The DVD will end up in the position the music CD did. If its a really good movie you will buy the DVD. If its a mediocre movie (most of them are) you won't bother. The DVD will be more than alive compared to printed books in a couple of years. The e-reader has transformed printed books into cassette or eight track tapes. A real death if you will.

  • Did you used to be an extemper? You talk just like one.

  • I'm happy that you guys are back for the moment :)

  • the best 3-d movie i saw was proprobly shark boy and lava girl and that movie stunk

  • zoolander?

  • so you're saying I shouldn't buy anything since it will all soon be gone anyway? Yeah I guess they could come up with something better for toiletpaper...

  • I like the show's intro.

  • I don't know where you guys are but I love your thoughts. I in Afghanistan.

    KLUTE

  • over? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Wow you look buff! Nice work!

And totally agree with this vid. People who have opened the two new video stores in my town I feel are just not too smart.

  • gone again? yikes

hope you keep the videos up on this channel.

  • I'm curious, is your sir name really Winn?

  • Someone has bulked up

  • what is the only thing that will stand alone as the only entertainment media profit? PORN! in whichever multimedia via internet, movies or live shows. directors, animators, musicians, dancers, actors.... welcome to the new industry that has held fast since the dawn of time. ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY VAGINA!!

  • You said "rentals via media" when the screen said "rentals via mail."

    Son, I am disappoint.

  • 3D = flop

  • 3d will die very very quickly

  • man cleavage 2:18

  • I love WhatYouOughtToKnow. It's so much more accurate than my own What I Know videos.

  • oh and ya family vi
