Ok I retract that last statement. I went back and listened to the album version and paid attention to the drums. It's def. 5/8 or 10/8 depending on how you want to divide it up. Those beats are on the eight notes not the the quarter notes.
10/8 always made more sense for me at least in respect to what phil plays and where the snare hits are. Putting the eighth notes in groupings of 3 when you can so that the first snare hit is on the beginning of the second grouping.
The rythm in this song is, like, 4/9 with a dash of 300/12. It's so awesome, and I just wanted to mention that so all people that have no idea what this "number/number"-thing is all about would get a clue!
US audiences normally do when they r playing. i was just at lollapalooza and they had 75,000 people quiet and singing to fake plastic trees. it was an amazing show
@med0student0bruce "US audiences need to learn how to keep quiet during the song!" British crowds are equally as annoying. Just watch the latest one in Cambridge. You sir, fail.

well on the studio version it's very fast, so it's easier to count 10/8. basically same thing

Well for someone trying to learn a song, time signature is very important.

Yeah, counting in 300/12 is a bitch. What with all the numbers along the way that contain more than one syllable.

The countings
"1-2-3" + "1-2" = Waltz + march
Burqua12 3 years ago
why would you count it like that? it's just 5/4
danielinsporto 2 years ago
It's easy to follow the rhythm of this song, by counting like this:
1-2-3, 1-2
Burqua12 3 years ago
For anyone's info:
this particular song goes in the 5/8 rhythm , a rather unusual rhythm.
I suppose it could have been composed in say 4/4 but hey...who am I to judge.
:O]
Burqua12 3 years ago
10/8 with beats 9 and 10 played by snare drum fills.

@med0student0bruce Indeed, but I think the Greeks are the worst (I'm one - so don't accuse me of racism, please). I suffer when I go to concerts. :(
