  • All Balinese dance is so beautiful, Cheers! I love them, I am so proud to part of Bali, the place where you can live your life with Culture, Art, God and all. :)

  • What is Juak? Which part of this performance is Manis (sweet) ?

  • The character is "manis" (sweet) rather than "keras" (harsh). But not gushing sweet, all sugar coated. More like "fresh" water is called "sweet" water in much of the world for the lack of salt.

  • What is Juak? Manis? Sweet? Which part of this performance is sweet? I wonder.

  • yen kal ngalih jauk manis ane luung,...di singapadu ada a continer liune,.......

  • It's a solo dance. More like a monster than a demon, I believe.

  • Is Jauk considered the demon in Bali?

Can 2 or more people performed this at the same time or is this a solo choreo?

  • Oh wow! This is amazing. I am writing a short paper on Jauk Manis for a class taught by an acquaintance of yours, I believe.

  • bagus sekali thank you

  • DJIMAT UN GRAN!!!!! MAESTRO.

  • this resembles alot like the topeng keras, what is the difference?

  • Both are a branch of Topeng. Topeng Keras (red/grey masked), resembles a warrior/military/region leader, with a strong/tough character. Jauk Keras resembles a wild giant character (red masked). This is Jauk Manis, resembles a soft/mild giant character (white masked).

  • Rahajeng...

    sampunang nak-e kenten Bli....

    Suksma

  • Nyen ne ngigel....adi kaku san limanne....sing nyak care pak jimat nang bedik!!!!!!!!!!

    tukang kendange mare luwung.....

  • Pangigel nika Pak Anak Agung Anom Putra, saking Ubud. Tiang taen ngajahin Baris Tunggal ajak bapane.

  • Oops - ngajahin >> mlajah, hehehe.

  • I love this version of Jauk Manis - apparently this is the "oldschool" version.

  • Yes, this is definitely an "oldschool" version. "Professor Jauk", I Made Djimat, was Gung Anom's coach for this dance in the festival. Both artists are very concerned with respecting and honoring the essential aspects of jauk manis. Others in the festival and elsewhere add lots of movements that are not really idiomatic. Anom gets the core of the dance beautifully here.

  • I had the pleasure of watching Pak Djimat dancing this in Celuk a couple of years ago - I was awestruck. Simply amazing.
