  • I flagged this video inappropriate; that man looks like a freak and just keeps rambling.

  • I'm interested in a step baffle with a rounded back. Now my Guadala MBII has a step but not a rounded back. Earlier Michael Brecker I mpc is that way. What will this do to the sound.? Can you tell me if my mpc can be machined or buy something similar?

  • @mgiaca

Rounding the back of the step baffle 'softens' the edginess of the sound. It is fairly easy to add this feature by rounding the back of the baffle with a file. I talked to Michael Brecker about this and the mouthpiece he actually played on did indeed have a rounded back to the baffle for this reason ;)

  • The DURGA rocks!!

  • Hell yeah, one step closer to becoming a disciple of sax-rolling!

  • That pink hat is so epic :D

  • @anwachukwu Expensive is an understatement, but what do you call Jody Jazz prices??

  • @saxesrus Well I think Jody Jazz prices are, for the most part, cheaper. Sure, they can get as expensive as a Theo Wanne piece, but models such as the DV are $100 cheaper. I have the HR Alto mouthpiece and it's around $300 cheaper than a Theo Wanne HR mouthpiece.

  • Great info, Body and Soul is a little distracting...

  • whats the best metal mouthpiece you got (or plastic)

  • Words to live and play by. Believe this man- he knows!!

  • WOW! These are expensive! Tell me, what advantage does buying a Kali alto piece for $545.00 give me over a Vandoren V16 or similar which cast at the very most $150.00? Not to bust your chops or anything, but I mean there has to be some sort of justification for the price.

  • i need help with a question. im in concert band high school and have two mouthpieces: a ridenour cstar and a mouthpiece that just says it was made in usa that came with my vito. the ridenour has a bigger tip opening than the one that came with my vito. which one should i use for concert band?

  • @ThePsychoinferno Both pieces sound like they would be OK for concert band work. Thank you for the question.

  • @ThePsychoinferno i too am in a highschool band, one of the top 50 in the country. if anything for a concert band, you want a mouth piece that has a bigger inside. i.e, the mouth piece should have a hollow area inside it. whichever one is bigger should produce a more rich, darker tone. but if this is not the case, you should use the one you and your band teacher thinks produces the best tone possible. also, be adjusting your embellisher at all times. that will as well effect your tone greatly.

  • is using a metal mouthpiece harder to produce the sound rather than a plastic mouthpeice? and what is better metal or plastic?

  • @xcvfr57 The material used doesn't affect how easy a mpc blows. Reed strength, tip opening, facing all have to be mated together to make an easy blow. Generally, the larger the tip opening, the softer the reed; the longer the facing the harder the reed. I play on metal, plastic and hard rubber mpcs. Metal has the pleasant advantage of being more compact, as its a stronger material, but it also tends to have a brighter tone. Welcome to the crazed world of mpcs!

  • Very informative. I'm using a Tenor Jody Jazz 7* metal mouthpiece with Vandoren Java #2 reeds, & Vandoren regular #2 reeds.

  • Sorry, couldn't hear a word you were saying, background music is way too distracting.

I guess I don't have the ability to listen to two things at once.

  • They sound amazing Theo.

  • i personally am a bflat sax fan myself. soprano and tenor ftw.

  • My 11 yr old music maniac, has been playing sax since Sept.09. He is amazing! He got a Soprano asain ebay special for Christmas. He is doing great on the supplied mp. What would you recommend for a good mp for him to master the soprano. He now uses a C* on his YAS 52 Alto. See his moment & improv vid!

  • Hi, I'm an alto/soprano jazz player with a tight budget and I'm looking for more of a 'classic' jazz sound than a contemporary one. Do you have any suggestions? By the way, great video.

  • What is a good suggestion for a more modern jazz sounding mouthpiece?

  • Thanks you for your interest in our mouthpieces. I would recommend the DURGA or KALI for a modern jazz sound.

    Warm wishes,

  • Great videos Theo! Currently I'am using medium chamber mp. Would large chamber require more air support? I'am thinking of trying out one of your models but there is no dealer around :-(

  • Hi!

Thanks for the kind words. Our True Large Chamber pieces do not require more air support because of the effecient facing curves and how Theo shaped the baffles of our pieces. They are quite free blowing.

I encourage you to use our trial policy to try a piece or two.

Also, if you have a dealer near you you would like to carry our product, it would be great if you could tell them so and then I will follow up and see what we can do.

    Thank you very much.

    Warm wishes,

    Tom

  • He was the best re-facer.

He really made a tenor link sing.

I wish he would still do that.

  • Theo, is an asset to the world of saxophone.

  • So Theo again announces an upcoming alto Mouthpiece here. I am looking forward to it!

  • im thinking about buying a AMMA 7*, one of my saxfreinds got the AMMA 6* and it sounds realy great

  • I just got an AMMA 7* and im super happy with it, its hard to find the right words to describe, a true work of art. Top to bottom, overtones, altissimo, fat, edgy, crisp. oh and by the way, i just registered it on your website, Thank you !!

  • I love my AMMA 6* I waited a long time but wow! It was worth the wait. Now, if I can get used to a Fibercell reed -- No more worries re mpcs and reeds. Theo you are the best. The videos are very enjoyable! Thanks Ed Z. in Texas.

  • Great video, and lovely pieces. I am very tempted. If you get a chance, take a quick listen to my stuff, what do you reckon would suit me best? A Parvati or Ambika? I play either a modern Link NY 7* or HR 7.

  • Hi,

You have a truly beautiful sound, and I commend you on your wonderful playing as well. The PARVATI is closer to what you currently have, however, I think you may really like the PARVATI because of its warmth.

    Blessings, Theo Wanne

  • Cheers Theo, appreciate the reply. and you are making me blush :-) I'll give the nod to my wife about the Parvati, as she is looking for 40th Birthday Gift ideas for me...... that would fit the bill!!

  • Hi,

That is wonderful. I made a typo on my last comment, and the meant to also recommend the AMBIKA because of its warmth.

    Blessings, Theo
