IF YOUR SHOOTING IN APERTure priority at F8 and your histo tells you you're under exposed...Did you go to F5.6? How did you do it to get a batter exposure in the first shoot and what was your focus metered at?
@hyperfocus2011 Changing the aperture to f/5.6 would have resulted in the same exposure; the shutter speed would have been increased to compensate. When using automatic exposure (like aperture priority AE), you need to use exposure compensation to change the exposure from the metered value. Adjusting the aperture and shutter speed only work in manual exposure mode.
Incredible as always, passed this on to my cousin that started her own jewerly making. Maybe she can get some hints from you =)
The tripod you are using seems steady, what kind of tripod is it? I've looked on a manfrotto pro4, dunno tho how they are compared to the one you are using.
Great vid Mark. I've done some ad hoc product photography but this tent is a lifesaver and would make things so much more consistent and properly lit. What lens were you using in this video?
@xmeerzx Auto Lighting Optimizer (ALO) analyzes contrast in captured images and modifies both shadows and highlights via tone curve adjustments to minimize loss of detail in contrasty lighting conditions. If im not mistaken this works only on JPEG mode, wich i would not advice. Raw Rules!

Protip: You should also use a macro lens for very small jewelry.

In my Canon T2i, I have a setting that says " Auto Lighting Optimizer", what does it do? does it control a situation like the one you had at 02:12 ?
Thanks (:
