This episode was really good, but I just have two questions: One, how long was Mary at the school for the blind? Also, I saw Mary and Caroline wearing plastic hair combs/barrettes in their hair. Had plastic been invented in the time in which this show takes place?
"Mary is going to teach in a school for the blind... to help other blind children."It is just heartbreaking ,and the vicar cannot help having a sob.Mary is very beautiful otherwise until the end of the part.
I loved the characters of Rev. Alden and Charles Ingalls -- I forgot Dabbs Greer could ham it up and turn on the water works as good as Michael Landon! :)
@shirahbe No, actually "Hello and Goodbye" is the last episode from season 9 of LHOTP. However, there was also a series of made for t,v movies that some LHOP fans regard as season 10 of the series.
@shirahbe Good heavens no. Still many years to go. Mary and Adam eventually get married, Laura gets married and has kids. Years left to the show. This is just leaving walnut grove.
@shirahbe Actually, I believe at the time, it was thought that this was going to be the series finale. I read this in Melissa Sue Anderson's memoir... but, I guess since ratings were high, they renewed the show for another season.... and THANK GOODNESS, because we would miss out on so much, like Laura growing up, other great episodes, and ALBERT of course! lol
@shirahbe According to Wikipedia, this show was originally supposed to be the last, but they apparently(and thankfully) changed their mind . This was intended by NBC as the final episode of the series, but the show ended up being renewed for the following season.
@MissKreutzfeldt thanks for clearing that up ! I already suspected as much cause the way the episode is made up kinda shows it was supposed to be the last one. Good thing they changed their mind !
@tabiic Here "shit" means "something" and not literaly "feces". And by the way, you just used the word "crappy" and are being very agressive and I find that more "shocking" than anything and emotional 2000 could try to temper your attitude instead of moralising me outrageously !
@Emotional2000 Be careful then..." where you are coming from " could be regarded as a very condescending thing to say...Anyway, I realise that "little house" is bringing people that are so "righteously" uptight that it gets frightening. I mean, if you truly think that the word "shit" could shock your viewers when this programm deals with people slowly dying in the fire, getting raped, being beaten by their parents and so on and so on...Then you got some neurotic viewers...Seriously, get a grip !
Does anyone notice that Charles seems to have trouble letting Mary go?
Leading her to the coach was one thing, but she grew up in that church/school. She should've been able to walk to that podium on her own. HELLOOOO Charles? Didn't you want her to be independent? Stop coddling her.
When I watch this episode, I always think about how it was originally intended to be the last episode of Little House on The Prairie. Then the show was unexpected renewed again for the next season. I'm glad it was - there were so many other great episodes in the rest of the seasons!
@grekanda29 REALLY!!!! It would've been horrible if it ended there. I never knew they thought about it. There's so much more to come. So many other favorites. New characters and old characters transforming. It's not even close to finished. It's just the beginning for Albert.
You know I was happily watching Bonanza one day... and both Doc and the Pastor were in the episode. It blew my mind. I think I literallly started yelling, "OH MY GOSH IT'S DOC BAKER!"
mary ingalls is beautiful and even knowadays i cant believe she got blind, but i think the real mary ingalls really was brave because theres a lot of people in the world that think that the blind people is useless.. well adams teached us a lesson: the blind persons are as good or as bad as anyone... good for mary i love her¡¡¡¡¡ thanks for the upload
i think mary is so brave :).. i couldn't stand and talk in front of so many people who could see me and i couldn't see them.. that just make me sick :$
no mary never got married. i think laura was the only one to have kids. she had a daughter and then a son who died at birth or shortly after. i don't think she was able to have children after that. i don't think carrie or grace had children either. I vaguely remember laura described having her daughter in her books. she said that the doctor put her to sleep and when she woke up her daughter was there. i was always curious about using chloroform during childbirth.
i don't think charles and caroline adopted either but don't know for sure. does anyone know anyhting about chloroform during childbirth? or why laura couldn't have more children? the same thing happened to laura's daughter...she couldn't have kids
They didn't adopt. Almonzo and Laura did have an unnamed son in real life. He died in a fire. Rose had a stillborn son, and not long after she and her husband divorced and she stayed single.
@godsfiddler actually he did not die in a fire. He died of something unknown a few weeks after he was born. There was a fire in "the first 4 years" but no one died in it.
@greenwich1754 I believe Wikipedia may be incorrect on this issue. Mary lived with her parents until their deaths and finally moved in with her younger sister Carrie during her last days. Mary died, unwed, October 17, 1928 at her younger sister's home in Keystone South Dakota...
@Emotional2000 My mis-communication! I was referring to Melissa Sue Anderson ("real life" Mary). is married in real life. I didn't check Wikipedia regarding the "real life" (historical) Mary, but I trust they're right on that. Hope that's somewhat more clear.
@greenwich1754 Thanks for explaining that. People are getting me confused. I was believing what emotional2000 said but then others said that's wrong. What we seem to have is people calling the actress Mary in real life. I have to admit I use character names for actors too, but on fictional shows. Looks like not everyone understands little house is not fiction. At least not for the most part. Apparently it does skew in places.
@greenwich1754 Are you talking about the actress the girl who plays Mary. Her real life name is Melissa Sue Anderson. The real life Mary Ingalls was blind and lived many years ago. Melissa acts blind; she can see. The little house stories and TV show are based off real live people that lived in those times.
Do you know if Mary Ingalls married in real life?
Was Wikipedia about Melissa the actress getting married?
@greenwich1754 Oops I got confused. I thought godsfiddler made that comment instead it was TO godsfiddler from you. I already got that you were talking about Melissa. Am I the only one that gets the TO and FROM on youtube confused at times?
@Miracle490d No, I'm often confused too - especially when one is trying to re-construct a dialogue that took place several weeks/months ago, and there are layers of comments posted!
in the show mary got married to a man named adam kindel, and together they had one boy, that died in a fire in a episode call "may we make them proud."
in books only laura had one daughter, and married a man by the name almonzo wilder.
I am afraid you are mistaken. I just checked the videos in question and they appear to be working fine. Maybe Youtube was updating their site at the time when you were unable to view the parts. In any case, just try back later as I did... I hope I was helpful...
absolutely beautiful... mary was chosen for this and im so glad she found happiness and love. if it werent for her going blind she wouldn't of inspired so many, she wouldn't of taught so many blind kids who are lost, and she wouldn't of found adam. good job mary.
PART2:To me; say if her eyes were a color that you see all the time then she wouldnt be that pretty she would just look kinda old. Laura on the other hand when she wears pigtails she's cute, she look like a little girl but you can she she has a beautiful face through the braids then when she wears her hair down you can see that she is very pretty.
PART1:I think Mary is very pretty but.. at the sametime its because her eyes are like whoaaa they are striking. i love her eyes "Ice Blue", her face seems kinda mature beyond her years though. it's the eyes that makes her look noticable it puts people in aww.
Although it was heartbreaking to see Mary go blind, it was nice and touching to know that she loved being with all the blind children to teach them a lot of things. And she has Adam to help her and be there for her. So it seems she is starting a new life all over again.
Mary is so pretty, but I find that when the girls are all married,Laura is the prettiest, poor Mary seems to have such a sad life..but she loves working with the blind children&she married a very handsome man,Adam!!
I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and have watched all your vids. Excellent!!! I love lhotp. My kids swear I have seen every epi from every season 20 times. This is one of my favorites, but I have to ask will you be posting the epi that aired after this where they move to Winoka and meet Albert and the Garveys and Oelsons follow them? Thanks again
Hi Journeyskye and thanks for your comment. But I am sorry to say, I do not have your video request. I only have season 6-9 with the exception of "I'll Be Waving... from season 4. I believe your request is from an earlier season. I apologize for the inconvience, but I hope you continue to enjoy my LHOP vids. :)
sniff, sniff, wah!.....pass the tissue box, Emotional2000! This scene made me cry as a little girl, and now so many years later, I am still moved to tears. When Rev. Actually, I just showed this epi as a special presentation b/c I was out of town. The same goes for the upcoming special "Home Again" featuring Albert. I'll post specials every now and then that do not include Almanzo and Laura, only, in the future. However, after I finish "Home Again", I will be returning to our regular video schedule featuring Laura and Almanzo. By the way, that's for your comment/request question. :)
Yes, me too gwbushfan1982! But at this present time, I will primarily be uploading Laura & Almanzo vids only. However, I will show specials, like this one, every now and then that don't feature absolutely Laura & Almanzo.
Me too boylover10! Keep in mind, I will be showing special presentations, every now and then, that do not necessarily star Laura & Almanzo. However once I finish uploading "Home Again", we will return to our Laura & Almanzo vids that have already been requested by fans like you...:)
