  • to make it go faster export it to youtube, download it from youtube, upload that vid to I mvoe and edit it to go faster.

  • Thanks for posting-this is very helpful

  • You know, the only thing i needed from the video is how to make photo duration smaller. But the video is very awesome!

  • There is a way to have certain parts of your video faster (so more frames per second), just export the part of your project you want to go faster. Then bring it back into iMovie and go to "speed" under clip options and speed it up however fast you want it to go :D

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO KNOW HOW TO DO CLAYMATION FOR SOOO LONG

  • go apple pro mouse :)

  • Do you know what program I can use that is free (download it or something) to reverse the video to play. I'm looking for a while now but I can't find one, and I have just a computer, so no apple

  • I have a better idea of making stop motion movies I use. I just record a video and then take screenshots of the moving objects it looks smoother! Thumbs up so that everyone can make it better!

  • Thank you so much !!

  • how do you do when the box of the trackpad opens ??

  • after you export the video of the stop motion at 10 frames per second could you import it back to imovie and speed up the video as a whole given the illusion that it's going a lot faster like 30 or 40 fps?

  • when i set duration and do .1 it says fell short ofminimun

  • thankss!

  • how come when i did that when i play it for each photo it zooms in and out for some effect i think

  • @mysterysneakerkid thats kens burns probably He says to chagne kens burns to fit in frame

  • So helpfulll

  • thank you so much for your helpful guide. please have more tutorial in the future

  • thank you so much!

  • Very useful. Thanks dude!

  • great videos man. thanks

  • Hey, Matt! I like your iMovie tutorial vids. Very helpful. You actually can increase the fps of the stop motion by cheating a little. After you export your movie the first time, then reimport into your project. Then kick up the speed as fast as you want it for a faster paced (and hopefully) smoother vid. The only drawback is that you may lose a little quality in the rendering.

  • Thank you so much for the help! if i ever have a problem with imovie, i come to you.

  • After reimport speed up your video to increase frame rate.

  • pause at @0:28 for surprise

  • @MattsMacintosh How do you set duration in final cut pro X ???

  • Thanks I made my first stopmotion with this tutorial

  • Great Video! Very Helpful

  • fuck , i dont have a mac i just have windows . im just really sad right now .

  • i just used a video camera that has a stop motion setting

  • Awesome

  • @MattsMacintosh dude, can you add effects with iMovie?will it run on Windows Seven?

  • the fastest a pic can go for me is 0.03

  • Hi, thanks for making and posting this - I'm just trying to get a hang of the basics on stop motion and thought it was more difficult than this, but it actually seems reasonably straight forward. Question though - you mentioned that there are other programs better suited to stop-motion - I have a Mac - what Mac platform programs would you recommend (out of curiosity) - thanks :D

  • Hi thanks for making this video! it helped alot! Me and my group maktes were gonna make a project and this helped alot! Thanks so much!

  • thank so much I watched this video then made a music video in imovie, posted it ad received 300 hits in a few hours!!!!!! check it out it's called tsunami

  • Hey guys! Check out Anasazi Stop Motion Software on Google and download.

If you don't know what it is, then search it :)

  • If you want to get a smoother animation, after exporting the project, simply fastford it! :)

  • man this is useful, thank you so much :D

  • I CAN'T SET IT TO .1 SECONDS, IT AUTOMATICLY GOES BACK TO 1 SECOND! HELP PLZ

  • @kguitaristDE try 0.1, it works for me

  • Quick question—how are you getting your clip to full screen size? I've used two different methods for capturing the images thus far, minus my actual digital camera. Is it because I'm not using my digital to take higher quality photos? And is there an easy fix, so that I don't have to use my digital, example in iMovie itself... Thanks so much!

  • If you make your photos with a green screen could you add a background on that green screen?

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! the ken burns thing was really annoying me, and we just needed to be rid of it! thanks again, TheImymac and TheKaiStuff x

  • Do your stopmotion video with 10 frames per second. Save it. Then creat another projekt and import that video. Then you can add the fast effect or what it's called and you have a fast stop motion video :)

  • @Demille turn ken burns off

  • Great video tutorial! I have a problem, and maybe you can help. I noticed that when I play back my stop motion on IMOVIE on my MAC, the images keep zooming in and out a bit on their own. I didn't do any zooming when i shot the stills and the camera was on a tripod. Any ideas?? Thanks.

  • after you export it when you load that video into i imovie and speed that video up

  • My iMovie can't go to 0.1 seconds

  • WTF my animation keeps zooming in at each fram why does it do this and how can I fix it

  • @LaBrick1 turn off the ken burns setting

  • @LaBrick1

because you import your pictures in ken burn mode.. ==

    pay more attention at 1:16

well...now you can either convert the picture one by one by clicking each picture and click (crop simbol) to change it from ken burn to fit

or reimport them following his instruction at 1:16.. =)

  • Thanks man! This tutorial is great!

  • Thank you for the tips!

  • My 9 year old son is so excited. We watched your video & he can't wait to make his lego stop motion movie on imovie! Thanks heaps

  • THIS WILL HELP GET PICTURES FASTER!!!! When you you drag the exported movie back onto imovie put it in fast motion and the pictures will go really really fast!

  • does this work with Imovie 11? I wanted to know how to get rid of the moving part when you put in the still

  • thanks a lot matt! finally i got rid off that damned movie maker!!!

  • the bad thing is i can't make a contract with hans zimmer to make the soundrack of my film because i'ma poor little fucker :c

  • Awesome demonstration- Thanks for sharing!

  • what kind of hypercam do you use

  • Two*

  • I WAS WONDERING HOW TO STOP THE PCTURE FROM MOVING IN IT'S FRAME!!! thank u this helped a LOOOOTTT!!!! if u look on my channel u will see to kinda stopmotions but the pictures are moving and it drove me crazy! Thank u thank u!!

  • Thank you you helped me so much!

  • Thank you you helped me so much.

  • You actually can make it 20 or 30 frames per second by selecting all of the clips. Then go to the inspector and speed up the video.

  • @freshwouldFBS Speeding up the video wouldn't make it a true 30 fps, but yeah you could do that. As he said in the video though, if you need stop motion that's like 30 fps and over like 5 minutes or something, iMovie probably isn't for you, there are better programs out there than just speeding it up.

  • Thank you very much. I am planning to do a stop motion video for my final project. My idea is a figure (person) will levitate. can you give me tips on how to do this? my initial idea is have him jump all the time.

  • Hey, awesome video! it really helped, but i have a doubt could you help me? As photos pass, they zoom in and out automatically, why does this happen? Thanks!

  • @Funkyadicta79

I have the exact same problem, even though I selected FIT TO FRAME. It's still giving me the DREADED KEN BURNS EFFECT. I hate that man...

  • So that's awesome, but for me it zooms in on all photos and I can't figure out how to make it just a straight up frame!!! Help!!

  • @SpockRocksMySox same happens to me!

  • finaly i know how to make my films THANKS YOU!! for that video!

  • YES! This was very helpful! Thank you SOOOO MUCH!!!!

  • Hey, great video. Can you tell me how you did that blurred zoom out at the end?

  • @direguy200 You mean the transition? Its one of the ones built into iMovie.

  • @MattsMacintosh so if I'm going to do stop motion a lot what r some programs i can use for it?? that cost nothing.

  • @direguy200

and you need imovie 09 to do that.. (08Sucks!!!!)

  • @bedsheetbros why?

  • awesome!! Thank you for this!!!! :) I think I am going to have to sub you cause this is great! :)

  • this was exactly the kind of video i was looking for..thanks por posting this. really helpful

  • I NEED HELP! im trying to make a stop motion project for my school and i have imovie 08', but its only letting me set the duration to .3 seconds... is there a way i can change the settings to make it .1 sec? please help!

  • i dont have any other editing program for the momen,t and i want to start some stop motion projects thanks for the tutorial its very useful.

  • Awesome video mate, out of all the mac imovie / stop motions videos ive seen, this was certainly the most easiest to understand and follow, it even helped with some other picture importing issues... im planning on creating alot of stop motion videos once ive become good at it, what software would you recommend for Mac? thank you.

  • most ov u guys looked at this for ur lego movie didnt u...

  • WRONG! You can make the video up to THREE frames if you cut each one individually.

  • @SenshiSunPower I'm not sure I understand, can you elaborate? A three frame video wouldn't be much of a video...

  • @MattsMacintosh I'm sorry, I meant you could make frames last for 3 seconds if you cut them individually.

  • @SenshiSunPower Why would you want your frames 3 seconds long? You want it to be as fast as possible; three seconds would be waaaay too slow. I must still be misunderstanding...

  • @MattsMacintosh Okay, well, I've done quite a bit of animating with iMovie. I used to use the frame-on timing tool before they removed it. I could cut a three frame image on 24 fps that way. So it could be the same.

  • 2 people still can't do this :O

  • thank you:)

  • how do you add sound like voices and stuff?

  • i freakin love you!

  • 2 people are in fast motion

  • love it thank you.!(:

  • If only i had a mac

  • @bedsheetbros Sorry to hear that. Anything I can do to change your mind?

  • @MattsMacintosh LOL, Cut it out a put it on a stick. (His brain) ERROR: Subject has no brain! LOL, BTW Matt, If you're reading this (Which you obviously are) you should look at Mactracker, its a free app in the mac app store and it has information on every apple project of all time.

  • Please check out my stop-motion videos and tell me what you think

  • Matt. I love your videos they're so informative and interesting! This one was pretty fun to try out. Just to ask. Can you provide a link to the background you have

  • So helpful! Thank you so much :-)

  • @Stephxox33 You're welcome! Thanks for watching!

  • your a good man mate, a very good man, i wanna meet you in person,,

  • I don't think this work's that much because when i do it set's all of the pictures backwards and it all the pictures have ken burns i need help

  • it keeps zooming in to the picture it is really annoying and i followed all your instructions so wtf?

  • @guitarmasterjar1 At 1:20 he explained.

  • @RhinoFeed i think i know what i did wrong i forgot to check the do to all frames box 0_0

  • i use imovie 09'

how can i make it to 0.1

    the fastest is o.28 seconds

    thanks

  • @hayleyloveshoney lol he didn't reply

  • Can't you just speed up the video to get a better frame rate

  • How did you do stop motion at the end? Did someone take the pictures for you or did you set the camera to take the pics for you?

  • I can't seem to make the seconds shorter than 1.0 - which defeats the purpose of a stop motion video. It says "fell short of minimum" when i select 0.1 seconds. Is there a way of fixing this?

  • Hi can we have the same imovie app for the Ipad. I mean imovie on the ipodtouch is much simple. it doesn't have all the effect. What about Ipad?

  • Thank you so much for your tutorial!! :P I made my first stop motion video by following your tutorial! :D It was so helpful!

  • Hello, i was wondering if you could please answer this simple question. I have asked many but no one replies. So once i do my stop motion how do i make it so the stop motion video takes up the whole screen and instead of having the black lines on the side. Do you export it and then crop it?

    -TF

  • @TechnologyFlow You can either crop it like you said, or shoot your original pictures at a 16x9 aspect ratio.

  • I use sony vegas on a PC when i make my stop motion animations!

  • Thank you helps alot

  • Hey Matt, thanks for this. Is there a more simpler way of taking images rather than pressing the button each time? Got myself a new 550D (virgin to DSLR's) but can't seem to figure out how I instruct it to keep taking images without me pressing the button (if that makes sense!). Cheers bud

  • After exporting the stop motion video couldn't you bring it back into imovie and speed it up? Would that make more of a realistic effect?

  • is there a way to add sound to your video? or do u need another program for that?

  • @skitsomo Just drag the sound file you want into iMovie, or use the voice over to make the sounds in real time. You can do it all in iMovie and don't need another program.

  • you've got the same camera that i have! :D

  • I'm trying to make a stop motion using iMovie, but I cant' figure out why the pictures are zooming in and out like they have zoom transitions on them. They were automatically there. Could you tell me how to get rid of that? It interferes with the smooth flow of clips.

  • @Maccat18 If you go to about 1:20 in the video I show you how to fix that.

  • @MattsMacintosh I tried adjusting the project properties to exactly what was in the video, but my project still switches between zooming in and zooming out on each clip.

  • How did you do the Stop Motion in the end? Did you do the same thing, or the camera kept taking a picture (continously)?

  • @mypingerhurts801 Yep. I just set the camera to burst.

  • mine could only go to .3 seconds

  • i removed ken burns but it still zooms in and out, wats wrong

  • @gbernatchez You have to remove the ken burns before you import your images

  • @MattsMacintosh may i ask what is the title of the song for the introduction? it's dam funny !

  • What is the ipod stand called you have in the back ground

  • Wow, thank you so much for that video! I was about to give up on understanding how should I use this program for stop motion. Thanks!! <3

  • Yeah but matt this doesnt show how you keep something to stay so you can take a picture without holding it with your hands. Like when the usb was opening the box in your magic trackpad video. How did u make it stay up without holding it?

    PLEASE ANSWER

  • @Appleaddict22 Take another look at the video and you'll see the usb cable is actually wedged between the box flap to make it stay. People don't seem to notice that because of the motion, but that's how I did it. If you really want something to "float" you'll have to edit each image (which would take a lot of work).

  • @MattsMacintosh Ohhh ok! :) Thanks a lot!

  • this is a good tutorial. you actually went 1 by 1 WITH explanations. i will try this.....as son as i clean my micro chip. LOL.

  • imovie so much better than windows movie maker

  • uploaded on my birthday.

  • need to get 34 out of the way

  • this is very educational. I suspected iMovie could do it, but I was too lazy to investigate. thx for teaching us matt.

    evan

  • @cartoonblock I actually drew Wolverine this weekend because of your last video. I think I'm going to experiment with ink wash soon as well.

  • @MattsMacintosh Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Maybe you can make it Mac related some kind of way.

  • this is sooooo cool! i'm going to try to do this now. wish me luck!

  • hi, i was wondering what program do you recommend for stop motion animation?

  • haha cool, we did this at school, used imovie too

  • Great help!

  • oh yay! thanks for doing the go to project properties thing, I didn't know how to take off the kenburns without doing it individually. Very helpful!

  • Great video!! What did you use to move the mouse cable around, that did not show up in the pictures?

  • Great stuff! Thanks for making this, Matt.

  • what camera do you use?

  • tip: after you export from imovie, load it up into another project and adjust the speed to get a better quality stop motion movie with "more frames".

  • Another excellent video Matt. Thank you.

  • Great tutorial! xD

  • Thanks!

  • I think most of us are waiting for the tutorial on how to be a creative genius like yourself.

    Keep up the good work.

  • great

  • favorited :D

  • you should use Final Cut, I use Final Cut Studio

  • Very good video, keep up the good work. Have you made partner yet?

  • Brilliant work and superb videos. Thanks for the tip

  • in you last video how did u make the mouse cords lift open the box? like how did u get the cords to stand still in the air?

  • @mrdlopes90 Yeah, I really wanted to know that! :( I wish he could reply to this!
