Not if its played right. Look it up. there is a guys who plays both and both have their own distinct sound but sound close to each other.

Personally, I find alt picking easier than sweeping it, but that could be because my sweeping needs alot of work.

fair enough, but on the albums and most vids he does alternate pick. if youve ever tried playing this youll know how it would be kinda awkward to economy pick as there is only really one note per shape, on the b string and two on G and E. sorry i that didnt make sense but ah fuck it!

I wouldn't say that necessarily. I do think he's faster probably but he doesn't have the same composing ability (i mean really, as cool as this is, it's all scales and it's not as listenable). I think both of them deserve major props though. Especially petrucci though, in my opinion.
