don't wanna take this too far, but i agree with doyoucare333. it's all about the characters, it's fine playing a british guy and having a british accent, but if you want to play an american guy and your accent is british, you have to fake the american accent.

I just thought of what would happen if a german actor would want to play in an american film and had a german accent in his english. He would only get the part of a mean nazi, nothing else. And who wants to play nazis...?!

Yes Hugh Grant and Colin Firth almost always keep their accents as they are. The American accent is great, just as the British Accent is. It would be nice in general if actors kept their identity, unless of course it was completely necessary to change due to the storyline.

Chuck Bass only has an American accent because he's an American character. Robert Pattison and Joesph Fiennes have American accents because they are playing American characters and were chosen for their acting, not where they are from.
