i love nicholson, but idk he wasnt JOKERY enough for me. he had no joker voice and just sounded like jack nicholson. but w e he was still a great joker .
But really, I like this trailer. A, bringing Ledger/Nicholson fanatics down a peg, B, an honest battle between them, just imagine what Gotham would look like in the end. and C, just funny overall. But I remember there was this real good trailer with all three Jokers: the BEST Joker (Mark Hamill), Ledger, and Nicholson that I just can't seem to find anymore. I wish I could find the bloody thing, if anyone's seen it, give me a ring.
@Momentum139 And I thought that the whole "anarchist" aspect of Ledger's Joker was borrowed from his TKJ counterpart: Where he tried to prove that anyone can turn insane given the right circumstances.. And earlier you said Ledger's Joker had no real explanation, well lets just say that the dark comedic Joker from the comics on which Ledger based his Joker on, was rather a very complex character that could not be explained through one movie/comic/graphic novel..
@Mordor6121512 The Killing Joke was a single story. It did two things: - It made you think about about it's ending - It sent feminists into a spin because it crippled Barbara Gordon. A hardcore comic book fan might immediately recognize the Killing Joke, but it's not the soul of the character. It's Alan Moore's interpretation/his depiction of the character. If I said Ledger had no real explanation, then I'll say now I enjoyed the fact he didn't, because his portrayal didn't necessitate one.
@Momentum139 Yeah well if The Killing Joke was Alan Moore's interpretation/depiction of the character, and you're fine with it, I'm pretty sure you'd be fine with Ledger and Nolan's depiction because they're quite similar..
RessurectedTemplar over here is dissapointed that Ledger's take on the Joker was more similar to the psychotic Joker in "The Killing Joke" and not the goofy clown that Jack Nicholson was.. LMAO.. Come on guys we all know that the psychotic Joker dominates the goofy Joker.. This guy is retarded, The Joker is not a dime-a-dozen circus clown like how Jack showed him, he is a homicidal maniac with a crazy sense of humor just like how he is shown in 'The Killing Joke' and his portrayal by Heath..
@Mordor6121512 the Joker has multiple incarnations, but it's a blending of psychotic comedy that makes hi mgreat. It's not one book that makes him the Joker, no matter what you say, and the Killing Joke is controversial because, no pun intended, cripples Barbara Gordon's character (in the eyes of some). It's no Bible. Ledger's Joker is built to apply to the modern movie-goer as a Hannibal Lecter wannabe with anarchic views and no real explanation.
@Mordor6121512 the Nicholson Joker is easily more approved because he is comedic and dark, and exaggerating him as a goofy clown is just another way of taking Nicholson fans down a peg. Could just as easily call Ledger a Lecter knock-off... and yes, I did that already... the psychotic Joker in no way dominates. Frankly, this is a contest, not a reception contest. It's about who's smarter/more versatile. Nicholson shot down the Batplane and was ready to kill a whole city...
@Mordor6121512 I would give my vote to him for shooting down the Batplane with a big f*cking revolver that came straight from his pants. That tops Ledger plotting a breakout (that only he survives), or trying to get people to kill each other, or corrupting Harvey Dent (we all knew he was going there anyway). I mean really... you just don't plan for that. How do you stuff an elephant gun-like revolver into your pants and then fire it like nobody's buisness. Hamill > Nicholson > Ledger.
@Mordor6121512 even if I do convince you that Ledger is inferior to Nicholson, which obviously isn't going to happen as our views are subjective nonetheless, this argument is just going to reset because these comments can't stay in the position that the new commentors are going to look. Not everyone is as determined to win a debate on the internet as us, so there'll be two new people soon enough. I had an argument like this with somebody on Youtube when the movie FIRST came out. (XD)
i think they're both great. Heath's Joker had a philosophy and thought he was being righteous in a way. Nicholson's Joker was a straight up bad guy who knew he was wrong, but loved it.
Every era had his own Joker. 50's-60's Joker was pub bandit, 90's Joker was gang leader mastermind and 00's Joker was psychopathic terrorist. That's what made this character so interesting: every time he's modern, he don't look like strange wacko out of his place.
this would make a sweet movie if Ledger was alive and performed as he did in Dark Knight, and if Jack was the age he was when he played the joker. Unfortunately northern can be done.
Also, they both played equally good rolls as joker. Nicholson played as the joked was meant to be, calm, funny, etc. Ledger played the crazy pure evil phycopath that also worked well
great fuckin video man it was very convincing that these two were going at it in this video. my choice................................JACK my generation.
@LorisEmanuelCianni Of course Nicholson is a better actor but Heath had the better acting performance. He played a more difficult role and mastered his role.
@LorisEmanuelCianni This was best role of Heath Ledger..He made it so great, like he not playing, he lived like Joker. Ledger was young when died.. Maybe he could be a better actor than Nickolson.
I dont get why so many fans of the old and new movie series each claim that the other sucks. Burton's interpretation of batman was completely diffrent from Nolan. The joker was fantastic in both movies, but you cant compare them as Nicholson and Ledger played completely seperate incarnations of the character.
I loved Nicholson's Joker but when it comes down to it he was just acting like himself the crazy being the crazy man he is. Ledger on the other hand completely immersed himself in the role until it eventually killed him. Ledger even wrote a journal as the Joker to prepare himself for the role, that is dedication. I think that Ledger wins by a landslide. The real shame is that he will never do anything like that ever again.
I liked the video. But Jack's Joker was a way better. He killed more people, laughed more which is key into playing the joker. Heath's joker just looked cooler but wore make up that rubbed off which should b permanently on his skin.
Heath ledger being alone for days and months with no human contact practicing his part, now that is something that someone may find hard to do. You may become crazy, but Ledger Pulled it off.
Heath Ledger's Joker was unpredictable and he always had batman two steps behind him. Jack Nicholson was pure laugh out loud gags with a twist of death, scares kids and make's them piss their pants. And another thing, Jacks Joker had a background on why he became who he was. Heath Ledger has no background, comes in like a trainwreck. Which makes Ledger win. Jacks Joker skin is chemically stained. Heath's Joker is applied. So Heath Ledger's Joker for the win. Plus ledger stayed alone for days.
Ledger's Acting was perfect for his character, cause the joker HE portrays is a more darker n as said b4, more realistic whereas nicholsons acting was perfect for d more, lighter, more true-to-the-comic joker. Both were fantastic.
You know, in Both these BATMAN movies, the JOKERS were the ones whoowned every scene.
They're completely different. Ledger had to do something different than Nicholson, and he did. To the exact same level of excellence. They both are pitch-perfect.
I think they both were good actors. It was based on the script that was written and what the actors brought to it. Personally, though, I like the Heath Ledger Joker better, he seems darker, more realistic and, call me crazy, but I kind of find it awesome, him being so apathetic. Also, Heath really worked to get into the role of that film.
And while I'm babbling, did anyone know that Heath was offered the role of Batman for Batman Begins? I glad he didn't take it, haha.
@jmarshall5454 Heath was more closer to the original Joker you doofus.. Any fan of the clown would know he is a homicidal murderous psychopath and thats just the way Ledger portrayed him.. Nicholson was more goofy and harmless just like the Joker of the 60s
they are way too even if you put ledger than he works... jack now he works too.. just a different time period with different special effects makes Ledgers more interesting. dont get me wrong both are creeps
Nicholson wins, why because he brought his own into that character, he made that JoKeR one of a kind, a crazy killer who showed no remorse in his deeds, while Heath Ledger's jOkEr was kool, it wasnt innovative, he was nothing more than a Rip off of Top Dollar, the antagonist from The Crow (1994) if you study his character you can closely see that he is the ultimate agent of Chaos.
jacks and heaths joker was based on two different types of jokers heaths was based on the very first version of joker jacks was based on the more well known joker with all of his toys
Heath Ledger wins, and let me tell y'all why. When I saw Batman 89, I said, "no-one will ever be anywhere near as good as Nicholson at playing the Joker". Ledger was, indeed he was even better. So he wins.
arkham asylum joker is my favorite!! even though hes litle battle damaged looing but over all cool!! heath vs, jack...id have to go with jack with cooler looks n more classy but heath with acting
@enuvune There wasn't that much praise until he died. And he died (surprise!) before the release of the film. I've seen lots of comments where anything except for praise was taken for disrespect towards Ledger.
Nicholson was damn good. And, what's more important, he was more Joker-ish. He was both funny and menacing and he was truly unpredictable. Whereas Ledger was your typical maniac. Damn good maniac, but still.
@ResurrectedTemplar nicholson was no more joker-ish at the time than ledger. nicholson was a leap to the darker side when batman came out. then ledger took that darkness to a new level. if you wanna award points for being spot on with the comic joker then cesar romero would win.
@enuvune The funny thing that no, he didn't. Yeah, he's scary, but things that he did weren't scarier than things Jack did.
Y'see, Joker must be both funny and menacing. He must release the tension, and then kill somebody. Ledger is menacing, yeah, but he's not funny. What was that, one joke? Maybe two? For that damn long movie?
@ResurrectedTemplar But that wans't Heath, that was the script...I personally adore both, but for this argument about jokes, that was how the script was written.
@enuvune By the way, your very statement that people criticize Ledger just to be different is insanely stupid. You don't even want to think that somebody really has different opinion on his acting and the movie as a whole (yeah, although Ledger was not bad, the movie itself was). "The movie was good, everyone who says otherwise are just bunch of hipsters who lie to themselves". Not really mature, you know.
@ResurrectedTemplar ask a hipster. guarantee they'll pick nicholson because ledger is "too mainstream". also, tdk was way better than batman. that just felt like every other burton flick with some familiar characters thrown in.
@enuvune TDK is a three-hour pretentious borefest that tries to be philosophical and deep, but fails at it. As well as being a good action movie, because for every good action scene there are three pretentious bullshit dialogs.
When Batman is a traditional superhero action movie, with good balance between comic book camp and dark realism. Plus, Batman himself in Batman doesn't suck, unlike TDK. He can do shit, his batsuit looks actually cool and his voice isn't ridiculous.
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson was not Joker-ish at all.. You don't know what you're talking.. Nicholson was more like the Joker from the 80s: A goofy prankster.. Heath was more Joker-ish: He was sadistic with a warped sense of humor..
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, because killing a man with a joybuzzer and poisoning THE ENTIRE EFFING CITY is sooooo goofy and the man who did it is totally not a sadist with a warped sense of humor.
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson was performing Joker crimes, but just like how it was done in the 60s: Goofy.. He was not sadistic at all, and the jokes were typical Nicholson.. Ledger was more sadistic.. I can see more similarities between Ledger's Joker and 'The Killing Joke' Joker, sure Nicholson's Joker borrowed the origin story but his character was more like a 60s take on the Joker, Ledger was more classic-Joker
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, because JOYBUZZING A PERSON TO DEATH AND POISONING AN ENTIRE FUCKING CITY is totally not sadistic. Not to mention all the people he killed in the museum. And the guy he killed with a feather. Yeah. Totally like harmless 60s version.
@ResurrectedTemplar I never said he was harmless.. He was somewhere in the middle.. But he was nowhere close to being sadistic.. He wasn't as sadistic as his The Killing Joke counterpart, neither was he as sadistic as Mark Hamill's version in the games, nor was he as sadistic as the Joker you see in The Man Who Laughs.. I can see more similarities between Hamill's Joker and Ledger's Joker..
@Mordor6121512 Do you even know what sadism is? Sadism, FYI, is having pleasure while harming other people. Considering how Nicholson's Joker was excited about POISONING ENTIRE CITY, it's safe to say that he was a sadistic bastard through-and-through.
@ResurrectedTemplar He wasn't sadistic enough.. Nicholson Joker actions are true to classic Joker, but his personality wasn't.. His persona was more on the goofy side than on the sadistic side.. Ledger Joker actions, persona are all true to the Joker.. Besides, Ledger's laugh was more Joker-ish, Nicholson's laugh was typical Nicholson
@Mordor6121512 By his persona you mean what? Ahem. Joker is a clown who kills people. HE SHOULD look and sound harmless until he is either giving you a wedgie or beating you to death with a toy hammer. First he gets the audience's guard down and clowns around and then BOOM - audience is shocked, when reminded that Joker is dangerous. Nicholson got it right. Ledger doesn't look harmless, you always know he's up to no good. So he got it wrong.
@ResurrectedTemplar "Giving you a wedgie or beating you with a toy hammer" that's a typical goofy Joker that Nicholson portrayed.. Joker is a sadistic homicidal psychotic maniac with a warped sense of humour.. Nicholson was not homicidal, he was not psychotic, he was a little sadistic yes, but that's about it.. He got it wrong.. Ledger was a mass murdering clown with zero empathy.. Take a look at the Joker in the games.. Hamill shares more traits with Ledger than with Nicholson
@Mordor6121512 Ahem, it was "beating you TO DEATH with a toy hammer". Which is horryfing. Mass-murdering? He wasn't mass-murdering. He didn't kill nearly as many people as Nicholson did. And about games - Hamill actually ACTS and looks GOOFY in between of murdering people. Like Nicholson. Because Hamill's joker was based off Nicholson's.
@ResurrectedTemplar I'm talking about Hamill in the games, who wasn't goofy at all.. Ledger killed loads of people, more than Nicholson.. How can you not call him mass-murdering when he killed loads of people? That's pathetic.. And Hamill was never based off Nicholson, his laugh was more creepy, and his character was more sadistic.. If anything, Hamill's Joker in the cartoons and the games are much more closer to Ledger
@Mordor6121512 So am I and he totally was. No, he didn't. Mass-murdering is killing really lot of people. Like, say, poisoning an entire city is mass-murdering, while killing several people by your own hands is not. The Batman cartoon was based off Burton's movies and so were its characters. Arkham Asylum/City's chars are based off cartoon. So yeah, Hamill is based off Nicholson. And no, he isn't closer to Ledger's Joker In Name Only.
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson's Joker didn't poison the entire city until Batman saved it.. The same way Ledger almost blew up the ships but was ultimately defeated.. And no, Hamill's Joker was not based of Nicholson, it was based on the comics.. And I've played both Askham Asylum and Arkham City, and its safer to say that Hamill shares much more in common with Ledger than with Nicholson.. The only thing Nicholson has in common with the comics was his origin..
@Mordor6121512 Nicholson's Joker poisoned the shampoos and stuff like that and people died. So, it's not the same way. I've already said that Hamill's Joker is based off Nicholson's and explained how, don't make me repeat that. And no, he doesn't. Ledger's Joker is just a dime-a-dozen maniac who wears facepaint for no reason. He doesn't act clownish. Nicholson's does both act clownish and murder people.
@ResurrectedTemplar Poisoning shampoos? What proof do you have that Hamill was based of Nicholson? Hamill doesn't act clownish either, he acts psychotic, just the way the Joker is suppose to be.. Hamill and Ledger were both much more accurate at portraying the Joker than Nicholson.. Hamill was spot-on perfection, while Ledger was near perfection, and Cesar Romero was the spot-on goofy harmless prankster, Nicholson was somewhere in the middle..
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, shampoos, shave foam, all that stuff. What proof? Well, how about the fact that Hamill's Joker's real name is Jack Napier? No he does. He makes jokes all the time. Heard any jokes from Ledger? Any other than the pencil trick?
@ResurrectedTemplar Besides, Jack Napier what other stuff is there in common? Last time you said Arkham Asylum/City are based of the cartoon and in the game last I checked Joker's got no name.. So you're wrong there.. Hamill never made jokes in Arkham City did he?
Ledger didn't make any jokes? Why So Serious? Scars? Ledger had better dialogues and one-liners which were influenced by his 'The Killing Joke' counterpart while Nicholson's jokes were borrowed from the 60s era Joker
@ResurrectedTemplar And just because Hamill's Joker's name is Jack Napier it doesn't mean he's entirely based off Nicholson.. It was just a reference, it doesn't prove shit.. His version was much more sadistic and psychotic
@Mordor6121512 No it wasn't. It was just as Nicholson's: clownish and goofy and then he kills somene. And what about the Joker Teeth in AA? What, was that not clownish?
@ResurrectedTemplar I just proved AA/AC were not based on the cartoon.. The Joker is nameless in them, he has a name in the cartoon.. Joker Teeth? Anything else?
You just said it yourself, Nicholson is clownish and goofy.. Hamill and Ledger are homicidal and psychotic, just like the original and dominant image of the Joker in the comics.. In the end, Hamill and Ledger are more accurate..
And for the record, the cartoons stand on their own..
@Mordor6121512 No, you didn't. You just SAID you proved.
Yeah, I just said it: Nicholson is goofy AND a killer. So is Hamill. Ledger is a dime-a-dozen maniac, who doesn't act like a clown and why the hell does he wear makeup anyway?
@ResurrectedTemplar Hamill was not a goofy killer.. He was a homicidal maniac, the way The Joker is suppose to be.. The Joker is not meant to be a goofy, he is a homicidal maniac.. So like I said, Nicholson was in the middle, while Ledger and Hamill were more like the original version of the murderous psychopath..
Hell I don't get why the fuck did you hate Ledger's performance.. Nicholson was just acting like Nicholson, Ledger completely immersed himself into his role..
@Mordor6121512 Because Ledger was Joker in name only. Hell, if we are all about "original", then why we don't have Batman running around with a gun, like in original comics? And about Nicholson being Nicholson - do yourself a favor, watch Shining. There you'll have a real psychotic killer. And Hamill was NOTHING like Ledger.
No, I'm saying as it was: Joker made lots of jokes in AA. Making jokes is goofy. So he was goofy. And killer. Like Nicholson. You're the one making shit up.
@ResurrectedTemplar Where did Joker make jokes in AA? Tell me one? He was taunting Batman all along.. If you call them jokes, it wasn't his goofiness, it was his warped sense of humor.. Hamill has more in common with Ledger than with Nicholson.. If anybody was Joker in name, it was neither Ledger nor Nicholson, it was Cesar Romero.. Stop criticising Ledger because of your hatred for him, his role has earned him widespread praise..
@Mordor6121512 Well, what about "Hey, I need a new pair of leather shoes" (or smth like that) when they encountered Killer Croc in the very beginning? So what, just because everybody else praises him, I should praise him too? And then again, hate to break it to you, kid, but the Killing Joke did not invent Joker. It's a take on character, but it's not Holy Bible. And even in TKJ Joker made jokes. He earned more praise because of the hype. And because people praise dead artists.
@ResurrectedTemplar Ledger earned praises because of his performance.. He even earned awards.. You don't need to praise him, you're just jelous his portrayal was more accurate than Nicholson.. Come on we all know TKJ is the greatest Joker story ever told because it represents everything he is: Homicidal, maniac, psychotic.. And Ledger's Joker is based on TKJ Joker
You got anymore jokes in AA? Those jokes weren't goofy jokes, they were more warped and demented
@Mordor6121512 Well, how about "Hey doc, don't you want to see the temperature? I can't wait to put my pants off" few minutes later? Or "What is your greatest fear, Bats? To not save the city? To see me wearing thong?" during Batman's search for Gordon. TKJ is a good story, but again, it's a take on character, not holy bible. Yeah? Well then he screwed up big time, because Ledger's Joker is a dime-a-dozen movie psycho. The praise comes from those who jumped on bandwagon.
@ResurrectedTemplar Do yourself a favour, and just beat it.. You know nothing about The Joker, you're nothing but a Nicholson fanboy.. If anyone was a dime-a-dozen movie psycho, it was Nicholson.. Seriously dude.. So whats your favorite take on the Joker character? Nicholson's goofiness? Why because its not so Joker-ish? Oh I get it, you don't like to see the Joker for what he is: A psycho..
So lets get this straight, you are jelous of Ledger's praise, because his portrayal was accurate.
@ResurrectedTemplar TKJ is a take on the dominant image of the psychotic Joker.. Not the goofy Nicholson Joker that you seem to worship so much.. And the Ledger Joker is inspired by the TKJ Joker and you just seem to be angry that Ledger was accurate on the psychotic image of the character that you want to see another portrayal of the inferior more harmless goofy Joker
@Mordor6121512 "Worship so much"? I'm not the one who started this arguing. I'm not angry at Ledger for being "accurate", I'm disappointed with him for not being. I'm actually angry at you at the moment for all he bullshit you just said. So yeah, say whatever you want, because it's my final post: Nicholson got both psycho and clown right and he killed more people than Ledger. That's why he's superior. And you're praising Ledger because of all the hype and because he's dead.
@ResurrectedTemplar Dissapointed in who? Jack? Right, he was the one who was less accurate, not Heath.. I get it.. Nicholson was not a psycho.. He was a dime-a-dozen goofy circus clown with a gun.. That's why he's inferior.. So here's my final post: Ledger got the more dominant image on the Joker right, which is sadistic and psychotic and he actually killed more people than Nicholson, thats why Nicholson is inferior.. You're just twisting the facts because you're a Nicholson fanboy. Good day
@Mordor6121512 I don't know where you're getting this perception that Joker's foundation is a psychotic clown. The proof is in the name itself. One comic is not basis for what a character is, by all means, then that means because TDK fanboys and Ledger fangirls think Nolan is god and TDK is essentially "this generation's Batman bible", that all Batman stories should focus on a Christian Bale-like Batman. Like Christian Bale is the best, which is wrong because Kevin Conroy is still alive. :p
But where I was going with that was that the Joker isn't solely this psychotic Lecter-like killer I'm assuming you think is dominant. His gags and the giddy way he kills people are key, those are what make the character significant, they are his trademarks. Ask anyone you know who is not obsessed with the Nolan series of films and ask them what they think the Joker is. They're not going to say: anarchist with a Glasgow smile who murders several black people, I'll tell you.
@Momentum139 There is no convincing that Nicholson is superior.. Ledger's version has more fans from the general and comics alike, his portrayal was more closer to Mark Hamill (I agree he was the best).. I think the Ledger Joker's giddy ways in killing people were present, and they were more darker and graphic than Nicholson's goofy kills.. Ledger's Joker was similar to the TKJ Joker, in that they both wanted to prove that anybody can become insane.. I think you get what I'm saying
@Mordor6121512 the only points I can freshly address are Ledger's popularity. The newest is always freshest. There is no fair way to judge Ledger's popularity - sympathy towards the late actor and less status as an old film classic. Of course if you ask someone randomly what they remember about the Joker, the latest thing that comes to mind (assume this was geared towards films) is Nolan's films.
@Momentum139 And about being comedic and dark, I dont think Nicholson was dark at all, he was more comedic than dark.. I would say Ledger was both comedic and dark.. Yes I know Joker is psychotic and comedic.. But the Joker is comedic in a twisted way, not in a comical way like how Nicholson showed him to be..
@Mordor6121512 Am I just repeating myself? If I had to sum up the Joker, I might say: a dark twist on a symbol of innocence. The same as Little Red Riding Hood or Goldilocks or Alice (depending on how you look at them). Nicholson's Joker made a statement in the beginning I liked, "Honest people shouldn't live [in Gotham City], they'd be happier somewhere else" or something to that effect. He's aware of the dark world he lives, his Joker is morbid inside and out. And he's still FUNNY to watch.
@Mordor6121512 I don't interpret a man dressing up as a clown is out to contest capitalism or order or any of that. He's out to make the world laugh, hell, he's out to make Batman laugh. The first thing one of the thugs in TDK described him as was that he "wore warpaint". Warpaint. That's a realistic description on a realistic sociopath. Not clown-make up. Not a comic book-villain.
Anyway, again, this is just going to back and forth. I can't defend Nicholson-Joker dying in the end at all.
@ResurrectedTemplar And yeah one more thing.. When it comes to the Joker, TKJ is the Holy Bible of all the Joker stories.. And Ledger's Joker was more closer to TKJ Joker than Nicholson's Joker, hence making Ledger more superior. Period.
@Mordor6121512 Lets face it, the only thing Ledger was missing out from the original Joker was making many jokes.. And not goofy jokes, but demented jokes.. The difference between Nicholson and Hamill was, Nicholson was goofy while Hamill was psycho and demented, even in his jokes.. TKJ Joker was a psychopath, TMWL Joker was also a psychopath.. The Joker is not a goofy killer, he is a murderous psychopath.. You can just love Nicholson's interpretation, but its the second least accurate version
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, but this is crucial part. Without jokes, there was no reason to call him Joker and having him wear clown makeup. It's like having Catwoman without cat motif. And I don't remember Hamill's jokes being any more demented and psycho than Nicholson. No, it's just you praise Ledger like all of the other hype victims who say that The Dark Knight was a good movie (and guess what, it wasn't). Nicholson got it right. Ledger got it wrong. Period.
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson got it wrong, Ledger was smore accurate.. Joker is more than just jokes.. Just like in TKJ, he wanted to unleash madness, thats what Ledger Joker wanted to unleash.. Isn't it? Nicholson's jokes weren't demented, they were goofy, Hamill's was demented.. And guess what, Hamill's laugh was better than Nicholson.
Period.
@ResurrectedTemplar I am not talking about Batman's portrayal as in the original comics.. I am talking about Joker.. Ledger's Joker is straightforwardly based on The Killing Joke.. Nicholson was a blend of the 60s and The Killing Joke..
You just seem to have a personal hatred and big envy of Ledger's performance, and that he has earned more praise and fans than Nicholson because he was more accurate..
@ResurrectedTemplar Where was Joker goofy in AA/AC? Nowhere at all, you're just trying to make up shit to support Nicholson.. Truth be told, he was not goofy at all.. Even in the comics he wasn't goofy, except for the 60s.. I take it you've not read Batman #1, The Man Who Laughs or The Killing Joke, they show Joker for how he really is, not Jack Nicholson..
they are both great just jack's joker is more of the joker for two things 1. he actually made his enemies fall over with a massive smile and dead not curve a smile into their face 2. even though his was make up it really didnt look like it it was always on not coming off like heath ledgers makeup joker was peremently red. white and green not wearing makeup thats what made joker so unique
nicholsons joker had the best one liners... 'never rub another man's rhubarb' 'ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?' 'gentlemen lets broaden our minds'.batman'89 had a far superior script and keaton was way better than bale. ledger did a great job because he made it his own but for me nicholson's joker is the difinitive one. he was funnier (THE JOKER) and creepier. dark night has too much crappy explosions at the end that spoil it. the soundtrack is crap compared to elfman and prince
@geobruf123 Their isn't one single explosion at the end of The Dark Knight, get off your Nostalgia wagon. Heath Ledger's Joker is the one that will be remembered forever. And the soundtrack is FUCKING AWESOME. Plus, Jack's Joker is just Jack acting silly in clown make up, Ledger's Joker is psychologically complex and is both funny and shit-your-pants-scary.
@geobruf123 Also(in my opinion) ledger had far better lines- "How about a magic trick? I’m gonna make this pencil disappear", "Hello beautiful...", "HIT ME!", "Why so serious?", "Let's put a smile on that face!", "I believe whatever doesn’t kill you, simply makes you…stranger.", "Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can’t savor all the… little emotions....", "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We are tonight’s entertainment!", and more......
@jakebiomask ok maybe your right as ive only seen it once but I remember the ending having lots of boring effects, a fire or something? as for the music everyone knows the 89 batman theme and everyone knows the 60's one! noone knows the dark night because its not memorable. 'why so serious' was said by nicholson in 89 so its a copy. 'put a smile on your face' is from 89 too! the line about knifes and guns is a blatant rip off from dexter fletchers scene from lock stock - watch it!
@geobruf123 There is no fire at the end of The Dark knight? And yeah apparently The Joker is so crazy that he just copy's lines from things he sees on tv and stuff, it was intentional. But it isn't just the lines he says it's the way he delivers them, you know? like he put a lot of effort into saying each line as memorably as possible. And i don't want Batman to be perverted? a realistic world approach wouldn't work well for superheros like spider-man but i think it works brilliantly for batman.
@jakebiomask the pencil line is great though. i like heath ledger! im not slating him. if he were in batman 89 I may agree with you but I just dont think its as good a film as for 'nostalgia wagon' thats an easy way to dismiss older things without thinking intelligently. I grew up with 60's joker too. its interesting how jack stole stuff from him, then heath stole stuff from jack. they are all good, i like jack the best. i like the prince songs too, batman 89 is perverted. the new ones lost that
Heath Ledger's Joker is my fave but when I was 8 Jack's Joker was awesomely creepy and cool. Just a shame Tim Burton never got to complete his Batman trilogy in the 90's. Am I the only person who refuses to acknowledge the woeful Schumacher Batman 'films'?.
As a kid growing up watching some of the batman cartoons (not the real old time ones) but still older.... I always pictured the joker as maniacal. The preference of what actor did better with the character comes with what you would expect the joker to be. The Nicholson joker was very well done, yet too civilized for my tastes. The Ledger joker fit my bill of over the edge insane, turning on a dime. Still it is all in what you expected from the character...Ledger fit my bill.
Pretty biased video if you ask me...You could have at least TRIED to make it seem fair...Ledger's Joker was portrayed to be the superior of the two during this "trailer""...
i like jack's so much better. it seemed like heath tried way way way too hard. i bet most of you dont like it because you were either not born or too young to watch the batman with Jack in it. obviously they couldnt have heath play the exact same role so they gave him a knife and a weird accent that just didnt go for me. plus the movie was made out to be something like the lord of the rings.. wasnt that movie a tad long?
@iotaminnesota I watched 1989 Batman first and still thought The Dark Knight was better. Why? Because I'm past the phase where the the only interesting movies are the ones that stay in classic barriers and make no attempt to be serious. And Heath's joker did not have a weird accent, he just had a free craziness to his voice he spent a month developing. The Dark Knight was meant to be more of a drama than a superhero movie. It needed almost 3 hours to describe its point and wow the audience.
@Patbad73 thats entirely why i don't like it. I dont think that voice should take a month to develop. Michael richards' acting in Seinfeld is 20 times better. i know its comparing apples and oranges but hey... i don't believe heath died cuz he delved to deep into this role. thats just ludicrous. I still think jack's is creepier just because i think he is a far better acter.. not biased, but i really believe he did a better job on the joker. Batman's are not dramas.
Srsly - DC should make a tribute comic about a alternate earth where the 2 jokers collide. The wacko gangster vs the anarchic psycho. I would buy a bajilion copies of it.
2. heath ledgers was more realistic as a joker in reality, but nicholsons was more set on the original joker in the comic books like in Killing Joke and Batman Arkham Asylum, both amazing! but heath did make me love the joker more than anything
To me Jacks Joker was much more like the comics in appearance and acting even though to me doesnt seem as psychotic as id think the Joker to be whilst Heaths was much more dark, more psycho but also more intelligent and more into killing people, either way they both did a good job and to play the Joker is extremely hard. For me id say Heath just because im into the darker, psycho stuff.
i love nicholson, but idk he wasnt JOKERY enough for me. he had no joker voice and just sounded like jack nicholson. but w e he was still a great joker .

@Momentum139 Joker laugh comparison - Ledger, Nicholson and Hamill
TheMykcal 1 week ago
@Momentum139 And I thought that the whole "anarchist" aspect of Ledger's Joker was borrowed from his TKJ counterpart: Where he tried to prove that anyone can turn insane given the right circumstances.. And earlier you said Ledger's Joker had no real explanation, well lets just say that the dark comedic Joker from the comics on which Ledger based his Joker on, was rather a very complex character that could not be explained through one movie/comic/graphic novel..
Mordor6121512 1 week ago
@Mordor6121512 The Killing Joke was a single story. It did two things: - It made you think about about it's ending - It sent feminists into a spin because it crippled Barbara Gordon. A hardcore comic book fan might immediately recognize the Killing Joke, but it's not the soul of the character. It's Alan Moore's interpretation/his depiction of the character. If I said Ledger had no real explanation, then I'll say now I enjoyed the fact he didn't, because his portrayal didn't necessitate one.
Momentum139 1 day ago
@Momentum139 Yeah well if The Killing Joke was Alan Moore's interpretation/depiction of the character, and you're fine with it, I'm pretty sure you'd be fine with Ledger and Nolan's depiction because they're quite similar..
Mordor6121512 17 hours ago
RessurectedTemplar over here is dissapointed that Ledger's take on the Joker was more similar to the psychotic Joker in "The Killing Joke" and not the goofy clown that Jack Nicholson was.. LMAO.. Come on guys we all know that the psychotic Joker dominates the goofy Joker.. This guy is retarded, The Joker is not a dime-a-dozen circus clown like how Jack showed him, he is a homicidal maniac with a crazy sense of humor just like how he is shown in 'The Killing Joke' and his portrayal by Heath..
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 the Joker has multiple incarnations, but it's a blending of psychotic comedy that makes hi mgreat. It's not one book that makes him the Joker, no matter what you say, and the Killing Joke is controversial because, no pun intended, cripples Barbara Gordon's character (in the eyes of some). It's no Bible. Ledger's Joker is built to apply to the modern movie-goer as a Hannibal Lecter wannabe with anarchic views and no real explanation.
Momentum139 1 week ago
@Mordor6121512 the Nicholson Joker is easily more approved because he is comedic and dark, and exaggerating him as a goofy clown is just another way of taking Nicholson fans down a peg. Could just as easily call Ledger a Lecter knock-off... and yes, I did that already... the psychotic Joker in no way dominates. Frankly, this is a contest, not a reception contest. It's about who's smarter/more versatile. Nicholson shot down the Batplane and was ready to kill a whole city...
Momentum139 1 week ago
@Mordor6121512 I would give my vote to him for shooting down the Batplane with a big f*cking revolver that came straight from his pants. That tops Ledger plotting a breakout (that only he survives), or trying to get people to kill each other, or corrupting Harvey Dent (we all knew he was going there anyway). I mean really... you just don't plan for that. How do you stuff an elephant gun-like revolver into your pants and then fire it like nobody's buisness. Hamill > Nicholson > Ledger.
Momentum139 1 week ago
@Mordor6121512 even if I do convince you that Ledger is inferior to Nicholson, which obviously isn't going to happen as our views are subjective nonetheless, this argument is just going to reset because these comments can't stay in the position that the new commentors are going to look. Not everyone is as determined to win a debate on the internet as us, so there'll be two new people soon enough. I had an argument like this with somebody on Youtube when the movie FIRST came out. (XD)
Momentum139 1 week ago
i think they're both great. Heath's Joker had a philosophy and thought he was being righteous in a way. Nicholson's Joker was a straight up bad guy who knew he was wrong, but loved it.
megrafite 1 month ago 9
Every era had his own Joker. 50's-60's Joker was pub bandit, 90's Joker was gang leader mastermind and 00's Joker was psychopathic terrorist. That's what made this character so interesting: every time he's modern, he don't look like strange wacko out of his place.
So, they both was great as the Joker.
P.S. But best is still Hamill. :)

this would make a sweet movie if Ledger was alive and performed as he did in Dark Knight, and if Jack was the age he was when he played the joker. Unfortunately northern can be done.
Also, they both played equally good rolls as joker. Nicholson played as the joked was meant to be, calm, funny, etc. Ledger played the crazy pure evil phycopath that also worked well
tubsampson 1 month ago
@tubsampson Joker is not meant to be calm and funny you asshole.. Joker is a murderous and sadistic psychopath, which is what Ledger played

@LorisEmanuelCianni This was best role of Heath Ledger..He made it so great, like he not playing, he lived like Joker. Ledger was young when died.. Maybe he could be a better actor than Nickolson.
George18798 1 month ago
I dont get why so many fans of the old and new movie series each claim that the other sucks. Burton's interpretation of batman was completely diffrent from Nolan. The joker was fantastic in both movies, but you cant compare them as Nicholson and Ledger played completely seperate incarnations of the character.
gaurangbhushan 2 months ago
Ledger, by a long shot. Nicholson's Joker was way too lame and corny, much like most of Tim Burton's characters
nri222 2 months ago
I usually prefer Burtons work but Ledger is perfect. End of story.
Musicdudez 2 months ago
I loved Nicholson's Joker but when it comes down to it he was just acting like himself the crazy being the crazy man he is. Ledger on the other hand completely immersed himself in the role until it eventually killed him. Ledger even wrote a journal as the Joker to prepare himself for the role, that is dedication. I think that Ledger wins by a landslide. The real shame is that he will never do anything like that ever again.

Jack Nicholson- Sense of Humor + Better Makeup
Heath Leadger- Anarchy + Evil Mastermind
Mark Hamill- Sense of Humor + Nostalgic + Best And Most Memorable Laugh
Caesar Romero- Classic Joker Laugh+ Sense of Humor
You Decide. My Choice is Mark Hamill WHY? Because I grew up watching Toon Joker and It ALWAYS made me laugh AHHAHAHAH!!!

Heath ledger being alone for days and months with no human contact practicing his part, now that is something that someone may find hard to do. You may become crazy, but Ledger Pulled it off.
KingofRockandRoll511 4 months ago

I glad he didn't take it, haha.

anyone saying nicholson was better is just a hipster trying to pick the less obvious choice.
enuvune 7 months ago
@enuvune And anyone saying Ledger was better says that just because Heath died. You see, it works both ways.
ResurrectedTemplar 5 months ago
@ResurrectedTemplar except that's dumb and baseless. there was a shitload of buzz about ledger's performance long before he died.
enuvune 5 months ago
@enuvune There wasn't that much praise until he died. And he died (surprise!) before the release of the film. I've seen lots of comments where anything except for praise was taken for disrespect towards Ledger.
Nicholson was damn good. And, what's more important, he was more Joker-ish. He was both funny and menacing and he was truly unpredictable. Whereas Ledger was your typical maniac. Damn good maniac, but still.
ResurrectedTemplar 5 months ago
@ResurrectedTemplar nicholson was no more joker-ish at the time than ledger. nicholson was a leap to the darker side when batman came out. then ledger took that darkness to a new level. if you wanna award points for being spot on with the comic joker then cesar romero would win.
enuvune 5 months ago
@enuvune The funny thing that no, he didn't. Yeah, he's scary, but things that he did weren't scarier than things Jack did.
Y'see, Joker must be both funny and menacing. He must release the tension, and then kill somebody. Ledger is menacing, yeah, but he's not funny. What was that, one joke? Maybe two? For that damn long movie?
ResurrectedTemplar 5 months ago
@ResurrectedTemplar But that wans't Heath, that was the script...I personally adore both, but for this argument about jokes, that was how the script was written.
SmileForInsanity 4 months ago
@enuvune By the way, your very statement that people criticize Ledger just to be different is insanely stupid. You don't even want to think that somebody really has different opinion on his acting and the movie as a whole (yeah, although Ledger was not bad, the movie itself was). "The movie was good, everyone who says otherwise are just bunch of hipsters who lie to themselves". Not really mature, you know.
ResurrectedTemplar 5 months ago
@ResurrectedTemplar ask a hipster. guarantee they'll pick nicholson because ledger is "too mainstream". also, tdk was way better than batman. that just felt like every other burton flick with some familiar characters thrown in.
enuvune 5 months ago
@enuvune TDK is a three-hour pretentious borefest that tries to be philosophical and deep, but fails at it. As well as being a good action movie, because for every good action scene there are three pretentious bullshit dialogs.
When Batman is a traditional superhero action movie, with good balance between comic book camp and dark realism. Plus, Batman himself in Batman doesn't suck, unlike TDK. He can do shit, his batsuit looks actually cool and his voice isn't ridiculous.
ResurrectedTemplar 5 months ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson was not Joker-ish at all.. You don't know what you're talking.. Nicholson was more like the Joker from the 80s: A goofy prankster.. Heath was more Joker-ish: He was sadistic with a warped sense of humor..
Mordor6121512 3 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, because killing a man with a joybuzzer and poisoning THE ENTIRE EFFING CITY is sooooo goofy and the man who did it is totally not a sadist with a warped sense of humor.
ResurrectedTemplar 3 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson was performing Joker crimes, but just like how it was done in the 60s: Goofy.. He was not sadistic at all, and the jokes were typical Nicholson.. Ledger was more sadistic.. I can see more similarities between Ledger's Joker and 'The Killing Joke' Joker, sure Nicholson's Joker borrowed the origin story but his character was more like a 60s take on the Joker, Ledger was more classic-Joker
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, because JOYBUZZING A PERSON TO DEATH AND POISONING AN ENTIRE FUCKING CITY is totally not sadistic. Not to mention all the people he killed in the museum. And the guy he killed with a feather. Yeah. Totally like harmless 60s version.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar I never said he was harmless.. He was somewhere in the middle.. But he was nowhere close to being sadistic.. He wasn't as sadistic as his The Killing Joke counterpart, neither was he as sadistic as Mark Hamill's version in the games, nor was he as sadistic as the Joker you see in The Man Who Laughs.. I can see more similarities between Hamill's Joker and Ledger's Joker..
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Do you even know what sadism is? Sadism, FYI, is having pleasure while harming other people. Considering how Nicholson's Joker was excited about POISONING ENTIRE CITY, it's safe to say that he was a sadistic bastard through-and-through.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar He wasn't sadistic enough.. Nicholson Joker actions are true to classic Joker, but his personality wasn't.. His persona was more on the goofy side than on the sadistic side.. Ledger Joker actions, persona are all true to the Joker.. Besides, Ledger's laugh was more Joker-ish, Nicholson's laugh was typical Nicholson
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 By his persona you mean what? Ahem. Joker is a clown who kills people. HE SHOULD look and sound harmless until he is either giving you a wedgie or beating you to death with a toy hammer. First he gets the audience's guard down and clowns around and then BOOM - audience is shocked, when reminded that Joker is dangerous. Nicholson got it right. Ledger doesn't look harmless, you always know he's up to no good. So he got it wrong.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar "Giving you a wedgie or beating you with a toy hammer" that's a typical goofy Joker that Nicholson portrayed.. Joker is a sadistic homicidal psychotic maniac with a warped sense of humour.. Nicholson was not homicidal, he was not psychotic, he was a little sadistic yes, but that's about it.. He got it wrong.. Ledger was a mass murdering clown with zero empathy.. Take a look at the Joker in the games.. Hamill shares more traits with Ledger than with Nicholson
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Ahem, it was "beating you TO DEATH with a toy hammer". Which is horryfing. Mass-murdering? He wasn't mass-murdering. He didn't kill nearly as many people as Nicholson did. And about games - Hamill actually ACTS and looks GOOFY in between of murdering people. Like Nicholson. Because Hamill's joker was based off Nicholson's.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar I'm talking about Hamill in the games, who wasn't goofy at all.. Ledger killed loads of people, more than Nicholson.. How can you not call him mass-murdering when he killed loads of people? That's pathetic.. And Hamill was never based off Nicholson, his laugh was more creepy, and his character was more sadistic.. If anything, Hamill's Joker in the cartoons and the games are much more closer to Ledger
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 So am I and he totally was. No, he didn't. Mass-murdering is killing really lot of people. Like, say, poisoning an entire city is mass-murdering, while killing several people by your own hands is not. The Batman cartoon was based off Burton's movies and so were its characters. Arkham Asylum/City's chars are based off cartoon. So yeah, Hamill is based off Nicholson. And no, he isn't closer to Ledger's Joker In Name Only.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson's Joker didn't poison the entire city until Batman saved it.. The same way Ledger almost blew up the ships but was ultimately defeated.. And no, Hamill's Joker was not based of Nicholson, it was based on the comics.. And I've played both Askham Asylum and Arkham City, and its safer to say that Hamill shares much more in common with Ledger than with Nicholson.. The only thing Nicholson has in common with the comics was his origin..
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Nicholson's Joker poisoned the shampoos and stuff like that and people died. So, it's not the same way. I've already said that Hamill's Joker is based off Nicholson's and explained how, don't make me repeat that. And no, he doesn't. Ledger's Joker is just a dime-a-dozen maniac who wears facepaint for no reason. He doesn't act clownish. Nicholson's does both act clownish and murder people.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Poisoning shampoos? What proof do you have that Hamill was based of Nicholson? Hamill doesn't act clownish either, he acts psychotic, just the way the Joker is suppose to be.. Hamill and Ledger were both much more accurate at portraying the Joker than Nicholson.. Hamill was spot-on perfection, while Ledger was near perfection, and Cesar Romero was the spot-on goofy harmless prankster, Nicholson was somewhere in the middle..
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, shampoos, shave foam, all that stuff. What proof? Well, how about the fact that Hamill's Joker's real name is Jack Napier? No he does. He makes jokes all the time. Heard any jokes from Ledger? Any other than the pencil trick?
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Besides, Jack Napier what other stuff is there in common? Last time you said Arkham Asylum/City are based of the cartoon and in the game last I checked Joker's got no name.. So you're wrong there.. Hamill never made jokes in Arkham City did he?
Ledger didn't make any jokes? Why So Serious? Scars? Ledger had better dialogues and one-liners which were influenced by his 'The Killing Joke' counterpart while Nicholson's jokes were borrowed from the 60s era Joker
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Why so serious? Hardly qualifies, if only for the ending. Scars? Not a joke. Anything else?
Yup, I said AA/AC's chars were based off the cartoon. Which was based off the movie. You checked where? He made lots of jokes in Arkham Asylum.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar And just because Hamill's Joker's name is Jack Napier it doesn't mean he's entirely based off Nicholson.. It was just a reference, it doesn't prove shit.. His version was much more sadistic and psychotic
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 No it wasn't. It was just as Nicholson's: clownish and goofy and then he kills somene. And what about the Joker Teeth in AA? What, was that not clownish?
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar I just proved AA/AC were not based on the cartoon.. The Joker is nameless in them, he has a name in the cartoon.. Joker Teeth? Anything else?
You just said it yourself, Nicholson is clownish and goofy.. Hamill and Ledger are homicidal and psychotic, just like the original and dominant image of the Joker in the comics.. In the end, Hamill and Ledger are more accurate..
And for the record, the cartoons stand on their own..
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago

Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Because Ledger was Joker in name only. Hell, if we are all about "original", then why we don't have Batman running around with a gun, like in original comics? And about Nicholson being Nicholson - do yourself a favor, watch Shining. There you'll have a real psychotic killer. And Hamill was NOTHING like Ledger.
No, I'm saying as it was: Joker made lots of jokes in AA. Making jokes is goofy. So he was goofy. And killer. Like Nicholson. You're the one making shit up.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Where did Joker make jokes in AA? Tell me one? He was taunting Batman all along.. If you call them jokes, it wasn't his goofiness, it was his warped sense of humor.. Hamill has more in common with Ledger than with Nicholson.. If anybody was Joker in name, it was neither Ledger nor Nicholson, it was Cesar Romero.. Stop criticising Ledger because of your hatred for him, his role has earned him widespread praise..
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Well, what about "Hey, I need a new pair of leather shoes" (or smth like that) when they encountered Killer Croc in the very beginning? So what, just because everybody else praises him, I should praise him too? And then again, hate to break it to you, kid, but the Killing Joke did not invent Joker. It's a take on character, but it's not Holy Bible. And even in TKJ Joker made jokes. He earned more praise because of the hype. And because people praise dead artists.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Ledger earned praises because of his performance.. He even earned awards.. You don't need to praise him, you're just jelous his portrayal was more accurate than Nicholson.. Come on we all know TKJ is the greatest Joker story ever told because it represents everything he is: Homicidal, maniac, psychotic.. And Ledger's Joker is based on TKJ Joker
You got anymore jokes in AA? Those jokes weren't goofy jokes, they were more warped and demented
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Well, how about "Hey doc, don't you want to see the temperature? I can't wait to put my pants off" few minutes later? Or "What is your greatest fear, Bats? To not save the city? To see me wearing thong?" during Batman's search for Gordon. TKJ is a good story, but again, it's a take on character, not holy bible. Yeah? Well then he screwed up big time, because Ledger's Joker is a dime-a-dozen movie psycho. The praise comes from those who jumped on bandwagon.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Do yourself a favour, and just beat it.. You know nothing about The Joker, you're nothing but a Nicholson fanboy.. If anyone was a dime-a-dozen movie psycho, it was Nicholson.. Seriously dude.. So whats your favorite take on the Joker character? Nicholson's goofiness? Why because its not so Joker-ish? Oh I get it, you don't like to see the Joker for what he is: A psycho..
So lets get this straight, you are jelous of Ledger's praise, because his portrayal was accurate.
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar TKJ is a take on the dominant image of the psychotic Joker.. Not the goofy Nicholson Joker that you seem to worship so much.. And the Ledger Joker is inspired by the TKJ Joker and you just seem to be angry that Ledger was accurate on the psychotic image of the character that you want to see another portrayal of the inferior more harmless goofy Joker
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 "Worship so much"? I'm not the one who started this arguing. I'm not angry at Ledger for being "accurate", I'm disappointed with him for not being. I'm actually angry at you at the moment for all he bullshit you just said. So yeah, say whatever you want, because it's my final post: Nicholson got both psycho and clown right and he killed more people than Ledger. That's why he's superior. And you're praising Ledger because of all the hype and because he's dead.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Dissapointed in who? Jack? Right, he was the one who was less accurate, not Heath.. I get it.. Nicholson was not a psycho.. He was a dime-a-dozen goofy circus clown with a gun.. That's why he's inferior.. So here's my final post: Ledger got the more dominant image on the Joker right, which is sadistic and psychotic and he actually killed more people than Nicholson, thats why Nicholson is inferior.. You're just twisting the facts because you're a Nicholson fanboy. Good day
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 I don't know where you're getting this perception that Joker's foundation is a psychotic clown. The proof is in the name itself. One comic is not basis for what a character is, by all means, then that means because TDK fanboys and Ledger fangirls think Nolan is god and TDK is essentially "this generation's Batman bible", that all Batman stories should focus on a Christian Bale-like Batman. Like Christian Bale is the best, which is wrong because Kevin Conroy is still alive. :p
Momentum139 1 week ago
But where I was going with that was that the Joker isn't solely this psychotic Lecter-like killer I'm assuming you think is dominant. His gags and the giddy way he kills people are key, those are what make the character significant, they are his trademarks. Ask anyone you know who is not obsessed with the Nolan series of films and ask them what they think the Joker is. They're not going to say: anarchist with a Glasgow smile who murders several black people, I'll tell you.
Momentum139 1 week ago
@Momentum139 There is no convincing that Nicholson is superior.. Ledger's version has more fans from the general and comics alike, his portrayal was more closer to Mark Hamill (I agree he was the best).. I think the Ledger Joker's giddy ways in killing people were present, and they were more darker and graphic than Nicholson's goofy kills.. Ledger's Joker was similar to the TKJ Joker, in that they both wanted to prove that anybody can become insane.. I think you get what I'm saying
Mordor6121512 1 week ago
@Mordor6121512 the only points I can freshly address are Ledger's popularity. The newest is always freshest. There is no fair way to judge Ledger's popularity - sympathy towards the late actor and less status as an old film classic. Of course if you ask someone randomly what they remember about the Joker, the latest thing that comes to mind (assume this was geared towards films) is Nolan's films.
Momentum139 1 day ago
@Momentum139 And about being comedic and dark, I dont think Nicholson was dark at all, he was more comedic than dark.. I would say Ledger was both comedic and dark.. Yes I know Joker is psychotic and comedic.. But the Joker is comedic in a twisted way, not in a comical way like how Nicholson showed him to be..
Mordor6121512 1 week ago
@Mordor6121512 Am I just repeating myself? If I had to sum up the Joker, I might say: a dark twist on a symbol of innocence. The same as Little Red Riding Hood or Goldilocks or Alice (depending on how you look at them). Nicholson's Joker made a statement in the beginning I liked, "Honest people shouldn't live [in Gotham City], they'd be happier somewhere else" or something to that effect. He's aware of the dark world he lives, his Joker is morbid inside and out. And he's still FUNNY to watch.
Momentum139 1 day ago
@Mordor6121512 I don't interpret a man dressing up as a clown is out to contest capitalism or order or any of that. He's out to make the world laugh, hell, he's out to make Batman laugh. The first thing one of the thugs in TDK described him as was that he "wore warpaint". Warpaint. That's a realistic description on a realistic sociopath. Not clown-make up. Not a comic book-villain.
Anyway, again, this is just going to back and forth. I can't defend Nicholson-Joker dying in the end at all.
Momentum139 1 day ago
@Mordor6121512 ...
I agree to disagree on our definitions of psychotic, dark, twisted, and the Joker's overall characterization.
Momentum139 1 day ago
@Momentum139 You agree to disagree? What do you mean by that?
Mordor6121512 17 hours ago
@ResurrectedTemplar And yeah one more thing.. When it comes to the Joker, TKJ is the Holy Bible of all the Joker stories.. And Ledger's Joker was more closer to TKJ Joker than Nicholson's Joker, hence making Ledger more superior. Period.
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Lets face it, the only thing Ledger was missing out from the original Joker was making many jokes.. And not goofy jokes, but demented jokes.. The difference between Nicholson and Hamill was, Nicholson was goofy while Hamill was psycho and demented, even in his jokes.. TKJ Joker was a psychopath, TMWL Joker was also a psychopath.. The Joker is not a goofy killer, he is a murderous psychopath.. You can just love Nicholson's interpretation, but its the second least accurate version
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@Mordor6121512 Yeah, but this is crucial part. Without jokes, there was no reason to call him Joker and having him wear clown makeup. It's like having Catwoman without cat motif. And I don't remember Hamill's jokes being any more demented and psycho than Nicholson. No, it's just you praise Ledger like all of the other hype victims who say that The Dark Knight was a good movie (and guess what, it wasn't). Nicholson got it right. Ledger got it wrong. Period.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Nicholson got it wrong, Ledger was smore accurate.. Joker is more than just jokes.. Just like in TKJ, he wanted to unleash madness, thats what Ledger Joker wanted to unleash.. Isn't it? Nicholson's jokes weren't demented, they were goofy, Hamill's was demented.. And guess what, Hamill's laugh was better than Nicholson.

Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
@ResurrectedTemplar Where was Joker goofy in AA/AC? Nowhere at all, you're just trying to make up shit to support Nicholson.. Truth be told, he was not goofy at all.. Even in the comics he wasn't goofy, except for the 60s.. I take it you've not read Batman #1, The Man Who Laughs or The Killing Joke, they show Joker for how he really is, not Jack Nicholson..
Mordor6121512 2 weeks ago
they are both great just jack's joker is more of the joker for two things 1. he actually made his enemies fall over with a massive smile and dead not curve a smile into their face 2. even though his was make up it really didnt look like it it was always on not coming off like heath ledgers makeup joker was peremently red. white and green not wearing makeup thats what made joker so unique
Curseddemonsasukez 7 months ago
nicholsons joker had the best one liners... 'never rub another man's rhubarb' 'ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?' 'gentlemen lets broaden our minds'.batman'89 had a far superior script and keaton was way better than bale. ledger did a great job because he made it his own but for me nicholson's joker is the difinitive one. he was funnier (THE JOKER) and creepier. dark night has too much crappy explosions at the end that spoil it. the soundtrack is crap compared to elfman and prince
geobruf123 7 months ago
@geobruf123 Their isn't one single explosion at the end of The Dark Knight, get off your Nostalgia wagon. Heath Ledger's Joker is the one that will be remembered forever. And the soundtrack is FUCKING AWESOME. Plus, Jack's Joker is just Jack acting silly in clown make up, Ledger's Joker is psychologically complex and is both funny and shit-your-pants-scary.
jakebiomask 7 months ago
@geobruf123 Also(in my opinion) ledger had far better lines- "How about a magic trick? I’m gonna make this pencil disappear", "Hello beautiful...", "HIT ME!", "Why so serious?", "Let's put a smile on that face!", "I believe whatever doesn’t kill you, simply makes you…stranger.", "Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can’t savor all the… little emotions....", "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We are tonight’s entertainment!", and more......
jakebiomask 7 months ago
@jakebiomask ok maybe your right as ive only seen it once but I remember the ending having lots of boring effects, a fire or something? as for the music everyone knows the 89 batman theme and everyone knows the 60's one! noone knows the dark night because its not memorable. 'why so serious' was said by nicholson in 89 so its a copy. 'put a smile on your face' is from 89 too! the line about knifes and guns is a blatant rip off from dexter fletchers scene from lock stock - watch it!
geobruf123 7 months ago
@geobruf123 There is no fire at the end of The Dark knight? And yeah apparently The Joker is so crazy that he just copy's lines from things he sees on tv and stuff, it was intentional. But it isn't just the lines he says it's the way he delivers them, you know? like he put a lot of effort into saying each line as memorably as possible. And i don't want Batman to be perverted? a realistic world approach wouldn't work well for superheros like spider-man but i think it works brilliantly for batman.
jakebiomask 7 months ago
@jakebiomask fair enough man. i like my rubber ;-)
geobruf123 7 months ago
@jakebiomask the pencil line is great though. i like heath ledger! im not slating him. if he were in batman 89 I may agree with you but I just dont think its as good a film as for 'nostalgia wagon' thats an easy way to dismiss older things without thinking intelligently. I grew up with 60's joker too. its interesting how jack stole stuff from him, then heath stole stuff from jack. they are all good, i like jack the best. i like the prince songs too, batman 89 is perverted. the new ones lost that
geobruf123 7 months ago
Heath Ledger's Joker is my fave but when I was 8 Jack's Joker was awesomely creepy and cool. Just a shame Tim Burton never got to complete his Batman trilogy in the 90's. Am I the only person who refuses to acknowledge the woeful Schumacher Batman 'films'?.
SirLokiChuffingtom 7 months ago
As a kid growing up watching some of the batman cartoons (not the real old time ones) but still older.... I always pictured the joker as maniacal. The preference of what actor did better with the character comes with what you would expect the joker to be. The Nicholson joker was very well done, yet too civilized for my tastes. The Ledger joker fit my bill of over the edge insane, turning on a dime. Still it is all in what you expected from the character...Ledger fit my bill.

Pretty biased video if you ask me...You could have at least TRIED to make it seem fair...Ledger's Joker was portrayed to be the superior of the two during this "trailer""...

i like jack's so much better. it seemed like heath tried way way way too hard. i bet most of you dont like it because you were either not born or too young to watch the batman with Jack in it. obviously they couldnt have heath play the exact same role so they gave him a knife and a weird accent that just didnt go for me. plus the movie was made out to be something like the lord of the rings.. wasnt that movie a tad long?
iotaminnesota 8 months ago
@iotaminnesota I watched 1989 Batman first and still thought The Dark Knight was better. Why? Because I'm past the phase where the the only interesting movies are the ones that stay in classic barriers and make no attempt to be serious. And Heath's joker did not have a weird accent, he just had a free craziness to his voice he spent a month developing. The Dark Knight was meant to be more of a drama than a superhero movie. It needed almost 3 hours to describe its point and wow the audience.
Patbad73 7 months ago
@Patbad73 thats entirely why i don't like it. I dont think that voice should take a month to develop. Michael richards' acting in Seinfeld is 20 times better. i know its comparing apples and oranges but hey... i don't believe heath died cuz he delved to deep into this role. thats just ludicrous. I still think jack's is creepier just because i think he is a far better acter.. not biased, but i really believe he did a better job on the joker. Batman's are not dramas.
