Max, "Oh, I'm feeling a bit of a vibration here, you did tell the captain we were doing this today right George?" " George, "Oops, forgot to call him...!" Its turning on.......
I thought that was called HYDROdynamics, but thanks for the info. Never thought something so huge, and spinning at relatively low speeds (compared to say a propeller of some airplane), and submerged in water would be less effective by a relatively thin layer of dirt. So the friction actually increases above what can be called negligible? I'm going to read more about this.
Question. Why are they polishing the propellers? It's not like anybody will ever see them if they are looking dirty under water. Surely they are just polishing them to make it easier to inspect them for damage? Bent propeller blades can cause serious vibration and increase the amount of diesel fuel used.
omg you guys are brave sons of bitches man i hate ship propellors they scare the shit out of me not to mention i had a close encounter with one when surfing with my cousin noone got hurt but we were sucked under and went straight through it sounds undbeleivable yes indeed me and my cousin should have been chopped sushi but i call it a miracle of God!!!! I have been freaked out by those things ever since!!!
How big was the ship (minor merchant vessel?) and where did that happen? Surely the water displacement would have prevented you getting anywhere near the mechanical undercarriage?
@cr90147 yep completely through and to answer the question of the dude who asked how i could be out that far in water deep enough well my cousin and i decided to sit on our boards and float for a lil bit but we like started talking and lol we stopped talking and said u wanna head back now? but lol i looked back and we saw no shoreline anywhere near us lolz i said oh fuck dude then we look and there a huge ass freighter coming by and u know the rest
Sorry for all the questions: wouldn't you run the gauntlet of sharks in these waters? If so wouldn't the procedure/decibel of the cleaning machine actually attract them?
Sharks don't normally attract to large vessels at berth in these waters. We believe that there is alot of free electrical current discharging from the ships in way of cathodic protection and echo sounders that would tend to repel them from venturing too close. It may be also that there are just not alot of sharks in this particular location...
@shyetet you guys must have balls of steel to go near those propelers like what if the boat started for no reason like that guy on the small vessle?i respect you sir lol
I'm sure you can see the dock bottom, at one point, hence my question on depth.
Is the clarity of water camera-enhanced or naturally as workable, as seen on screen? I doubt in a British dock (of any description), you'd have more than 5-10 feet of visibility, the water's so poisoned and opaque.
This is interim maintenance service being performed. There is a 3 year interval between drydocking. In-water polishing is far more cost effective and better quality than dry polishing in drydock. Vessel was berthed pierside for the service. Depth of water under the pier was approx. 50feet
Very interesting. What vessel were you working on?

Those controllable pitch propellors are ugly,specially the nuts and the cap of the axis are making the whole thing ugly.
Nobody cares and nobody sees them but i really like the propellors of the old boiler ships... Ohh wait,i hate propellors!!! Screw this.

Look at that shine!
What I find interesting is how disorienting the camera position can be until you get a shot of the draft numbers or the edge of the hull in sunlight.

Yes, the water is really that clear. Cozumel, Mexico. approx. visibility 100ft
Perfect location for any underwater work.

@MatlockJack poisoned?
TheSimonHarris 8 months ago
@TheSimonHarris
By means of pollution, which can occasionally be toxic. I'm not suggesting the water is augmented with Warfarin or weedkiller...
