  • Maybe slightly pixelating it would help

  • @BrianMastermind If you want a pixelated look, just throw the Mosaic effect onto the source footage and crank up the columns and rows to just under the native resolution of the video.

  • wts called that effect in 0:17 - 0:18 . how u made it ?

  • @xStalkerCatx It's colour channel separation, and I show you how to create it in part 4 /watch?v=rUHOlMbkct0

  • @shortformvideos Oh thank you so much ! , sorry i was blind ,my bad<_<

  • Thank's! for your aportations!:)

    See you BEst!

  • Amazing video very helpful, have been looking for this for ages :D

  • THANK YOU for this tutorial! EXACTLY what I was looking for!

  • hi thx for this gonna try using in my film, could you tell me how you did the colouring on the clip before you started please? have fcp with colour.

  • @forestpump Just play with the levels or curves to push the red channel down a bit and you'll get a similar look. Apply it to an adjustment layer if you're colour correcting multiple layers (beneath the adjustment layer).

  • You should drag the screen lares so that they dont have grain on them. It kind of breaks the illusion.

  • Thanks, nice tutorial. I was looking for something like that.

  • Can you make the ground glow on impact in after effects. For example, I do the football hi-lite reel for my university, and I would like to make the ground sort of glow, as a player hits the ground; But not glow as in Michael jackson billie jean glow but hard imnpactful damaging glow :)

  • Get Magic Bullet Misfire for even more effects to add to this.

  • chromatic aberration is lacking here. also, I export my footage at low resolution, and then stretch it to fill the HD space. Because despite all these nice effects making it look de-ressed, it's still to high in resolution!

  • @ribenawrath Thanks for sharing your suggestions. While CA is a feature of the lens rather than resolution, I take your point, and if you watch the last part of this series, you'll see I have an example of how to add colour separation (which you could use to create a pseudo-CA effect). The problem with rendering down and then upscaling is that it creates a soft, blurry appearance (AE uses sub-pixel sampling) rather than a low-res feel. You'd be better off using the Mosaic effect for this.

  • hey can we just download the entire project file and just drag and drop a video of ourselves we recorded..i.e..is there a website we can download that project? thanks buddy!

  • @ocstyles7 I've put nearly all of the project files that go with the tutes on my website - shortformvideodotcom

    Be warned - this one's CS5-only.

  • Thank you! This helped me a lot!

  • Enjoyed the Tutorial. Thanks. I would suggest putting the reflection layer above the static layer....I think the reflection exists on the glass and not on the signal image.

  • @ZachCowan Well spotted. Sometimes these things get overlooked during the screencast recording. I'll be sure to mention it in the next part.

  • Wow, I didn't expect this to actually help me! =P

I'm actually working on something in which this effect should benefit me greatly =)

It's something called a Machinima - I'm using the video game: Halo: Reach to create a Cinematic experience.

You can catch the trailer here if you want: watch?v=BLbryjZR-Bs

    Thanks =)

  • @suckergettecity Happy that you found it useful :) Already familiar with Machinima - Red vs Blue has a LOT to answer for! If you don't mind me saying, your trailer could do with a little work on the narrative. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of the game, but it feels a bit random and disconnected after the setup. I'd try and get this nailed down before doing too much work in post - it's important to get the face right before you start applying makeup.

  • @shortformvideos Haha, yeah, I know about the narrative problems.

The trailer was a BETA test, none of the footage seen will be in the final version - along with the audio, I was simply trying to immitate an American accent (myself being English). It was sort of a teaser trailer in a way.

The emotion in my voice wasn't great in the trailer and will be improved in the final version, if you like, I can keep you posted or you could subscribe to my NominalMuffin account. Thanks =)

  • This is making my day. All that takes is to see a little thinking "outside the box".

    That works every time.

    Dan

  • Very Nice,ty

  • can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry about the noise in the background - it's summer here in Australia and the Sydney cicadas are getting frisky in the heat.

  • @shortformvideos Wow the example video is great

you have the perfect face for a futuristic post apocalyptic message :D

  • @TheStrayCross Hehe. Don't think I've ever had my face described as post-apocalyptic before :) I did a breakdown of the stages involved in creating the example video if you're interested: /watch?v=LHuIHgrDNbc

  • @shortformvideos Could you give us a little hint how you did or where you got the little "scifi doohickey"?

  • @TheStrayCross It's just a shape layer with some keyframes and a wiggle expression. I'll try and do a short video on how to create your own in the next day or so.

  • @TheStrayCross Just uploaded a quick tutorial on how to create your own HUD element / scifi doohickey. You'll find it here: /watch?v=IF21IEZvUrw

  • @shortformvideos Already watched, liked and favored. Thanks!
