Definitely Queen-esque (the vocal intro, the diminished/suspended chords, the grand atmosphere) but they can pull it off! Why the fuck not..it's a tribute of the best kind. Just pleased they're flexing their musical muscles more than, what, they did in the last three albums?
"Kings of the World" and "Undefeated" are Def Leppard's signature sports anthems just like Queen's "We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions". Need I remind you one of Def Leppard's majoe influences was QUEEN.
What happened to Def Leppard? GAWD! They used to rock! Now they're just pussies. Have a listen to their 1st 3 albums again and see how far they've strayed from their roots and what their fans used to like about them. This new song could be in a friggin' Andrew Lloyd Webber musical for Pete Willis' sake! Great guitar solo, but that's about all I can say about it. Really, it would be a very good musical theatre number, but this is NOT hard rock! Steve, you are sorely missed, my friend.
@adrianoshaughnessy Come on, they're hardly likely to 'rip-off' Queen, clearly it's a homage, like a couple of their other newer songs. Apparently they're big Queen fans and were influenced by them too.
Queen is my favourite band ever...and I love Def Leppard. I cannot thank the Lepp boys for this wonderful homage to their - and my - heroes. God Bless them.
This is an international hit waiting to happen... same feedback as "undefeated", bring up the raw guitar sound just a bit as with the older stuff and you got it. Might sound better live?
Frankly, I'd probably be quite satisfied if I never heard Bohemian Rhapsody again, for all the times it's been played on the radio.
You know if they are going to copy Queen, Def Lep might at least give us a good laugh and do the "Gallileo! Gallileo!" part aswell....would be nice to hear them singing in their Sheffield (or Belfast) accents for once.
Yeah, since Euphoria they've been firmly a pop band
Sorry to say the leps have been going downhill since euphoria album all the songs since have been bland and sound the same. Hated the yeah album, only liked bad actress on the sparkle lounge album. Hope they pull someting out their ass if not i think its time to retire.... Only my thoughts
I hope they make a live tour video or music video of this, maybe it could revolve around a retrospect of their 30 yrs together. This song might be queen-esque but you have to admit, it's one heck of a song.
If someones going to do a throwback to Queen-styled rock song it should be rock legends like Def Leppard. They did a great job! 30+ years in the business and they still ROCK ON!
Hey, this is just bonus track. And Def Leppard were having fun when made this songs. So for the haters here,if you don't like it just leave it. Nobody forces you to hear that..
God, what happened to these guys after Euphoria? The last album I bought was X, and I listened to it once. Sparkle Lounge was not on par either. Def Leppard is supposed to have a definitive sound. I liked them for that sound, not this crap.
I think Sav is a master at arranging songs like this and Love. Freddie would be proud and by the way. This is a Def Leppard sound. I hope Sav is inspired to write more like it. For those who don't like it...don't listen.
Oh gawd.... If I wanted to hear Queen (I don't), then I would play Queen. This is a Def Leppard I haven't ever heard before..... shite. Sorry guys, FAIL.
Oh gawd.... If I wanted to hear Queen (I don't), then I would play Queen. This is a Def Leppard I haven't ever heard before..... shite. Sorry guys, FAIL.
I've spent time as a really huge Queen fan, so I really appreciate these sorts of things. If every song DL made sounded like Queen, then I'd probably get a little irritated, but what, they did three. They did Love, the remake of Dear Friends, and this song. I don't think that's too much.
Sounds like a very appropriate tribute to Queen and the glam rock that had an influence on the showmanship and sonic dynamics that put DL on the map. Touched to hear such a tribute and to see DL's humility to wear some influences on their sleeve.
its obvious queen is an influence on this song, and they are all friends with brian may, but leppard have been around too long to write songs ripping off queen
One thing Def Leppard is definitely great at doing is changing their sound. I find that even though I would usually stick to their older albums, there are always songs from every album that I listen to, that I like a lot, and that I would be mad if they hadn't come from Def Leppard, because no other band in the world can sound like Def Leppard.
I love everything Def does...it's a chance for them to do something new. For example, one of my fav albums is Slang...which was so different but so awesome. I wish more of the fanbase would be accepting. It doesn't always have to sound like it's 1988. Jeez. Do you want them to have new fans or just the old ones like yourself? This is awesome!
@HawaiiTalks SLANG was seriously UNDER RATED. I love the Album SLANG. The only thing that bothers me about MirrorBAll is that I have a ton of live stuff by them already.
Ok, always a fan of Def Lep and Queen so as a tribute to queen from Def Leppard this is fine. The problem is that Freddie Mercury had a powerful and unique voice so even a staunch fan will say that this seems a watered down queen song with the power missing. Brian May should have guested. All that said they were awesome a few days ago at the concert and in the current climate of autotune, disney plastic mediocrity they shine. Damn but we need a new punk rock wave....
I have to agree with the Queen refrences but this is a perfect tribute to one of the greatest bands in the world by one of the few bands who could pull it off without making fools of themselves. Who cares if its overproduced its a great fuckin tune and if you dont like it tough.
Should have gotten Brian May to record a solo for this one, and it would have been perfect. That, or they should have tried harder to dial in his guitar tone. Still, I like this track.
Considering that Queen's record label has released about 47 different Greatest Hits collections in the last few years, with no new tracks added, and Freddie ain't coming back any time soon, this song actually bridges the gap nicely. Definitely one of the better new releases from the Lep in recent years.
Love Leps but Sav needs to leave the Queen mimicry alone now and write some stadium rockers instead of this drivel.
Huge Queen fan and 2nd rate soul less soggy tributes like this should be on the cutting room floor ..... sweet baby jesus i nodded off the 1st time I heard this !!

Yeah, hafta agree that I wish da Boys would get back to something like Hysteria era music. And there have been several other good moments, but he is definitely missed. Come back, Mutt! But, I also think they could do it by themselves, after all, we are talking about one of the greatest bands EVER!
Great Song, stop wishing for High and Dry and Pyromania it's not going to happen it's a different time and era. why would you want them to keep writing the same song. I love the fact that it's longer then 3 min they need to go back to the epics.
I don't understand the negative comments posted here regarding this song. Sure, it's very Queenesque, but it's never been it a deep dark secret that Queen has always been a big influence for them, not to mention being fans of them as well. I happen to love this song. I happen to think that this is the best song that Sav has ever written. Joe's vocals are beyond excellent and Phil's bridge absolutely rocks. I wouldn't be surprised if this song will be a hit like Love Bites was. Rock on DL!

I think this is about the 20th song that they want to rip off Queen. Why don't they get it through their thick stupid skulls ! they're not Queen and they have lost all originality ! Maybe they wanted us to say that they're actually the "queens" of the world ?
@rodneykingsucks List the other nineteen songs, will you? Because this is the only one that I could say sounds like Queen - or one that they want to sound like a Queen song. Sav is a big Queen fan and a tribute song is fine by me.
@Quessir Dude, the first one was Pour Some Sugar On Me, admitted by Elliot himself. They based that song on We Will Rock You. But thats ok, that one didn't suck and took it's own personality. You can check many of the songs in Euphoria, and obviously on the Sparkle album too.
@rodneykingsucks I've never seen mention of Queen when referring to Sugar. I'd read that Joe heard a song by Burundi Black with a driving drum beat behind it, and he liked the sound. He recorded the pieces of song that didn't have chanting, then brought it in. Mutt loved it, they went around the studio with tape recorders mumbling nonsense, and Joe thought the first thing Mutt said on his was, "Love is like a bomb", and thought that was a cool lyric. I've never, ever seen mention of Queen.
@Quessir I mean, maybe they thought it was starting to sound like Queen at some point, and encouraged that, they being big fans. But the above story was what Joe said during one of those "Def Leppard - Behind..." videos that you can find on YouTube. Before Sugar was written they had all the songs set - the news that they'd written another one upset the record company, so it wasn't as if Leppard stopped recording the others and set out to make a Queen-alike song.
@CrossroadsCMT Everybody is influenced by somebody and who better than the former kings of the world Queen and if you don't like Queen you cannot be a true Def Leparrd fan because Queen has always been a huge influence especially to Sav if not the other band members.
@420sogood I like Queen, but Def Leppard has a different sound and I want them to stick to that. I didn't mind "Love" on Sparkle Lounge, in fact I thought it was even better live. This is just way too much... I like it still, but as a track that is taking up space on the Def Leppard record? (all 3 new songs on Mirrorball are part of the next studio record) No. If it was just a bonus track I wouldn't mind it. Oh well. I don't hate it as much as other fans on the forums think, but still...
@420sogood well keep in mind that this was written just by Sav it wasn't the whole band like the Def Leppard sound you're talking about. If it's a song written by Sav, me personally I'm almost expecting it to sound like Queen. Also the 3 songs relased each sound different as to who wrote it. I really don't think that any of them really sound like classic Def Leppard but I love them all.
It´s been more than 20 years that Def Leppard is doing this "over produced shit", dude. It´s quite obvious that with this song they are just paying a tribute to one of the most amazing bands ever, Queen. People really love to complain instead of just simply listen to good music.
If they had made something like Lady Gaga or some shit like this, then i would agree on the complains.
@szymano without question this has sav written all over it, very similar to "love" from sftsl. this is basically def leppard does queen! this easily could have been a queen hit back in the day. i was kind of surprised and dumbfounded when i first heard this but its actually a good song as long as ur not completely pissed that its not vintage leppard
@szymano well i think all leppard fans prefer that, but u gotta respect their interest in doing some stuff that branches out and shows a different side of them. the other two songs r more vintage leppard, this one is more of something that is like a big vocal ode to one of their big influences queen but also is vintage leppard with the big melodic vocals
This is very Queen like in approach. Their last single Undefeated reminded me of Pore some Sugar on me. They are great in concert. I like the fact that they play by there own rules. It also reminds me a bit of the Beatles as well.

Maybe they wanted us to say that they're actually the "queens" of the world ?
rodneykingsucks 9 months ago
@rodneykingsucks List the other nineteen songs, will you? Because this is the only one that I could say sounds like Queen - or one that they want to sound like a Queen song. Sav is a big Queen fan and a tribute song is fine by me.
Quessir 9 months ago 3
@Quessir Dude, the first one was Pour Some Sugar On Me, admitted by Elliot himself. They based that song on We Will Rock You. But thats ok, that one didn't suck and took it's own personality. You can check many of the songs in Euphoria, and obviously on the Sparkle album too.
rodneykingsucks 7 months ago
@rodneykingsucks I've never seen mention of Queen when referring to Sugar. I'd read that Joe heard a song by Burundi Black with a driving drum beat behind it, and he liked the sound. He recorded the pieces of song that didn't have chanting, then brought it in. Mutt loved it, they went around the studio with tape recorders mumbling nonsense, and Joe thought the first thing Mutt said on his was, "Love is like a bomb", and thought that was a cool lyric. I've never, ever seen mention of Queen.
Quessir 7 months ago
@Quessir I mean, maybe they thought it was starting to sound like Queen at some point, and encouraged that, they being big fans. But the above story was what Joe said during one of those "Def Leppard - Behind..." videos that you can find on YouTube. Before Sugar was written they had all the songs set - the news that they'd written another one upset the record company, so it wasn't as if Leppard stopped recording the others and set out to make a Queen-alike song.

Nice song, but this is not Def Leppard... Stop making this over-produced shit and rock back!

CrossroadsCMT 9 months ago
@CrossroadsCMT Everybody is influenced by somebody and who better than the former kings of the world Queen and if you don't like Queen you cannot be a true Def Leparrd fan because Queen has always been a huge influence especially to Sav if not the other band members.
420sogood 9 months ago 17
@420sogood I like Queen, but Def Leppard has a different sound and I want them to stick to that. I didn't mind "Love" on Sparkle Lounge, in fact I thought it was even better live. This is just way too much... I like it still, but as a track that is taking up space on the Def Leppard record? (all 3 new songs on Mirrorball are part of the next studio record) No. If it was just a bonus track I wouldn't mind it. Oh well. I don't hate it as much as other fans on the forums think, but still...
CrossroadsCMT 9 months ago 10
@420sogood well keep in mind that this was written just by Sav it wasn't the whole band like the Def Leppard sound you're talking about. If it's a song written by Sav, me personally I'm almost expecting it to sound like Queen. Also the 3 songs relased each sound different as to who wrote it. I really don't think that any of them really sound like classic Def Leppard but I love them all.
nkotbsb20112 8 months ago
@420sogood You claim that this is a Queen remake and on Wikipedia it says Sav wrote this

10 seconds of listening and it's clear, that Sav is author of this song :)
He love write the Queen-style songs... :)
szymano 9 months ago
@szymano without question this has sav written all over it, very similar to "love" from sftsl. this is basically def leppard does queen! this easily could have been a queen hit back in the day. i was kind of surprised and dumbfounded when i first heard this but its actually a good song as long as ur not completely pissed that its not vintage leppard
cheapseats12 9 months ago
@cheapseats12 I prefer more Leppardized records :)
szymano 9 months ago
@szymano well i think all leppard fans prefer that, but u gotta respect their interest in doing some stuff that branches out and shows a different side of them. the other two songs r more vintage leppard, this one is more of something that is like a big vocal ode to one of their big influences queen but also is vintage leppard with the big melodic vocals

This is very Queen like in approach. Their last single Undefeated reminded me of Pore some Sugar on me. They are great in concert. I like the fact that they play by there own rules. It also reminds me a bit of the Beatles as well.
