@ninmachine109 Avoid cheap boot-leg models. They are incomplete and cheap quality. I purchased the one sold by Swann an DVR0415, $49 at Fry's electronics, online or in-store, mine works great. Comes with manual, many different clips, 2gig micro SD, silicon cover and CD with everything you need.

This camera is a piece of crap. I would not recommend anyone buying it. I got no support from the manufacturer of the CompUSA where i purchased it. Drives don't work, instruction disc does not load, camera only records sound, no website support. Do yourself a favor and save your money.

DV is a Format used for recording and playing back DIGITAL VIDEO. DV was launched in 1995. Flash memory was invented by Dr. Fujio Masucka in 1980 primarily used in memory cards, USB flash drives, MP3 players and solid state drives. DV video CAN be recorded on memory cards, optical discs, hard drives and tape etc.. This thumb sized DV Camcorder records AVI files onto "micro SD cards". The camera is about 1/3 of the size of a miniDV cassette.

@MECcyclingUK miniDV is a tape format that has been around since the 1990s. this camera is a format of camera we people who know about cameras call FLASH MEMORY. flash memory is a digital video format that is relatively new. it became commonplace in the 2004-2007 area of this last decade. there's a little something called research that I did and so I know what the hell i'm talking about. the least this person could do is say "miniDV flash memory" instead of "miniDV".

@ultraplatnumman Yes it will work with a MAC. But don't count on the CD software being MAC compatible. I use a card reader co's sometimes the actual camcorder is not recognised. Be sure to format the card after each use with a MAC because deleting files does not seem to restore used card space but re-formatting the card does. You might have to convert the file before you can play it on a Mac. It's very simple just download a file converter from CNET Downloads and convert to Quicktime files.

@nedyuen There is a re-set button (hole) on the side of the camera just big enough to push a needle in. Sometimes if you knock the camera it will shut off for protection. Try the re-set button, it normally works if the camera shuts down.

@bakonfreek DV= Digital Video. It uses Micro SD Cards. 2GB=about 40 mins, 4 GB=about 80 mins. The battery life is about 60 -75 mins so a 4GB card is a good match.

i worked it out ages ago . turn it on (press power) then press the top button to record.flashes slower when it is record mode...pretty simple. as for setting the date and time. look it up anyone else on your tube, there is a dude showing you how to do it.

The first one i had only showed life once out of the box but they sent a replacement easy enough, the second one after i droped it stoped working so i opened it up and what had hapend is the lense module bit had just un cliped from the main board, after puttin it back on it works fine again.

to change the time/date you have to copy the textfile on to the camera, while attatched to the pc. This file should contain:

on the top to lines , you must have one space at the end.

time is 24h time.

The file should be called TAG.TXT and copied to the root of the memory card.

Then you disconnect the usb cable, wait a couple of secs.. turn it off.. then turn it on, reconnect usb cable.

tha manual just says: When the first time use PC-Camera function, please install driver as the guide. The driver named SPCA1528_V2220_MSetup.exe. After that there will be an AMCAP icon on the desktop.

In power off or power on mode, use USB cable to connect computer, the mode is U disk mode. Then short press MODE button, at this moment it can be switched into PC camera mode. Then double click AMCAP icon can be used as PC camera...amcap says"you have no video capture hardware"

The software cd includes a programme called Amcap which is a screen capture and webcam utilty. Use it on MSN, Skype etc.

All I did is plug and play. Let the OS recognize the device. You don't need a microsd card if you're going to use it as a webcam.

I had the same problem, if you press the mode button while connected to the computer, the mass storage will disappear and it will start looking for the driver for the webcam mode.
