A bike can take a bump in the road without a problem but a segway will throw you off very quickly. Or you might accidentally twist the turning control and find you have to step down, only to find that the segway then lurches forward and behaves like a bull in a rodeo. I still ride my segway every day, and consider myself lucky to be free of petrol prices, but I am extremely careful about how I ride it and I would never allow anyone else to ride it because of their inherent danger.
@ beldengi - How are they anymore dangerous than a bike or rollerblades?

The truth has to be told. Segways are dangerous....very dangerous.
I recently hit an unexpected bump on a quiet country lane, was thrown off, and broke my arm.
I have been thrown half a dozen times from my segway without daring it to.
And worst of all, they are a mean beast that keep on going, impossible to control.
On the other hand they are the perfect solution to my need for a vehicle that gets me to work and costs virtually nothing to run.
