believe it or not, ak47 get famous is because of chinese type 56, and China made more type 56 than russia made ak47, it was send to China as a gift by USSR, and they send equipment and technician to China to teach them how to make this rifle, after the first type56 been made, China did some modification to it, and there are many different models after, the best type ever made is called type 81-1，and the old man in Russia agreed with that

The quality speaks for itself, yep, made in China, and it is a fucking bad ass rifle, i fired some rounds in a war camp in China, this rifle is extreamly light and moveable, recole is OK, not as bad as i thought. the wood parts are just so so so comfortable and solid.. it is definatly the kind of rifle a civilian should own! sry for my bad english!

@esh325 The Chinese Norinco AK's typically have a thicker receiver and barrel, typically 50% more. The reason was that extra strength was needed because the quality of the steels and metals were of poor quality.

There may be some new versions, but the Chinese reputation proceeds them.

Do you have any other AK's? Like a Bulgarian Arsenal, Russian Vepr? or some yugoslav or polish?

As for as the Chinese go, the Soviets handed them the blueprints and they started producing on their own equipment and materials.

So if they started producing the standard thickness originally first, I think its more than probable they ran into problems with weak materials, before revamping to thicker specs to correct the problem.

The chinese originally used cheap materials indeed to make their weapons, not only from my experience with norincos and euro models but due to things I had both read and heard from others.

Whether they started using stronger materials without changing the thickness again I don't know.

@762full MAK-90's (civilian type 56) and various other makes. The dates that they were made range from the late 1980's to early 1990's. The thickness is the same on the receivers as it's always been. What are you experinces with them? The majority of people in the US that own Chinese AK's have nothing but praise for them.

I never had any problems with early Valmet or Norinco AK imports, jamming accuracy or mechanical, no matter the ammo used. Fact is early Valmet in 5.45x56 is one hell of a weapon in durability and accuracy (as if accuracy was ever good in an AK). If one can find an early Valmet in 7.62x39 grab it, even if you have to have new barrel because some idiot never cleaned out corrosive powders. Those in the know know why! Any Ak today imported into US lacks quality of early no matter country of orign.

When the Finns had the choice of choosing AKs for their homeguard they chose Chicom AKs not Russian. Same for the SEAL teams. I know two respected and well known AK guns smiths who shoot hundred of thousands of rounds a year in various full auto weapons and all think highly of chinese AKs.

I have to agree. I own several Chinese and Russian AKs. The Chinese guns have a 1.5mm receivers, better finishes, smoother triggers, thicker barrels, and have been my more accurate rifles. I have never had a canted front sight on a Chinese gun. I have seen several on Russian/Euro guns.

Not that the Russian guns are bad. I think the Chinese are slightly better quality wise. My AK gunsmith has told me he considers them the hardiest of all the AKs he works on and shoots.

canted sights only happened on my wasr knockoffs. you are very lucky, because the ammo that jams the most, the ak that malfunctions the most, and rusts the fastest, are the chinese ammo and type 56. Along that is the romanian garbage.

your best bet is go with russian izmash which has top quality. I doubt what you own is actually "russian".

My Romanian WASR-10's reicever cover will not go back on after I removed it to clean the action (not that you really need to) can someone help

your doing something wrong, if the receiver cover was previously on it, than it will go back on once taken off, make sure you have it in the slot below the front sight, and you push forward into that slot while pushing down at the same time to snap it down under the recoil spring button. if for some reason the cover has become mishapen, and youre sure it wont fit even if you know your putting it on correctly, than you can get replacement covers off the internet, they shouldnt be hard to find.

BOTH Chicom and Russian varients made stamped "and" milled versions. I'm assuming when you said "machined" that you meant "milled"? Besides,you can soak ANY AK-47 in the mud and it'll fire,regardless of country origin. The gun in this video is a "stamped" Chinese Norinco 56S
